First of all I don't know which forum it would be appropriate to post this so I am posting it here. Over the last decade these two franchises have defined modern bioware and it is fascinating to compare and contrast these two franchises as I feel they have intersecting fanbases but not the same fanbases. Both have striking similarities but also vast differences and I am wondering what the overall perception bioware fans have in general of these two franchises and how they compare and contrast with each other.

Mass Effect, mostly. Dragon Age: Origins was the only Dragon Age game that really resonated with me.

I play both, but I guess I'm more into Dragon Age these days.
Better world building and memorable characters overall, in my opinion.

Only Mass Effect.
I've actually never played Dragon Age. Although, since I've just renewed my Origin Access I might well give it a whirl.
Any advice?

I like the Dragon Age setting and stories more but Mass Effect is more fun to play because I get to click on heads.

I'm the first to put "both equally." I love aspects of each quite a lot.

I like both quite a bit, but Mass Effect more than Dragon Age.
My preference overall is for sci-fi over fantasy, and it's really god damn hard to find good sci-fi RPGs that I haven't already played.

Only played Dragon Age. Mass Effect never grabbed my interest, although I may give Andromeda a shot once all the DLC and patching is done.

Only Mass Effect. I've actually never played Dragon Age. Although, since I've just renewed my Origin Access I might well give it a whirl. Any advice? If you are giving Dragon Age a try for the first time I would go with Origins. Not just because it is the first game but because while on the surface it's collect your army to defeat the ancient evil plot might seem cliche but it's actual execution is really good and as you gather your allies you learn about the history and lore of the world. DAO's world building is incredible and it's hard to believe it is the first game of a franchise seeing how well fleshed out it is. While it isn't necessary to play it first to play the latter two games it does help contextualize those games more and I find having played and knowing the background of the DA world more enriches the latter two games. Also having a unique prologue based on the origin you picked is a nice touch as you don't just read about the background you picked for your character but you get to actually play it and experience it. I really want them to revisit the origins concept again in a future title.

I have played all the DA's for the last few years and never wanted to try ME because I didn't think it would appeal to me. Then in Jan I threw myself into the ME trilogy, loved it, and now I'm a fan of both DA and ME, equally.

Dragon Age is alright and the first two were compelling enough to play while waiting for new Mass Effect.

I never considered myself as a shooter player, I'm not very good at shooters. ME series got me over the fear of shooter games. I like both series equally, though.

This poll is ageist toward those who liked Bioware even before ME1. In that case BG/IWD series rules over all. That goes without saying. Well, I became a Bioware fan when NWN1 came out and I'm more of a NWN/KOTOR guy. I didn't meet bioware forums until 2010 after the original Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and didn't know about those older games until then. So it was too late for me to enjoy those mute 2D games (comparing to KOTOR, JE and ME). Although I played Icewind Dale 1 for a few hours a few years back until i reached a very difficult area and I gave up.

Both, but Sci-Fi > Fantasy for me. Only reason I even plan on getting ME:A when it eventually hits the bargain bins is because of the criminal lack of Sci-Fi RPGS.

Both but favoring Dragon Age series cause i like the characters more. plus i started my "affairs" with Bioware by playing Baldur's Gate which put them on the map so of course i am more curious about it's successor, even though only Origins counts as the real successor. Bioware got into the current mainstream with Mass Effect so it is more popular probably. the poll could use more options btw.
