I think that the main reason I'm not sure when and if I will play this game is that I don't see much "cool" stuff in it, save for the jetpack (which, by being availble to everyone and being a movement paradigm shift in MEA is kinda less cool than it should be).
Let's compare it to the amount of "cool" factor ME3MP threw at you.
1) Krogan bitchslaps = cool. 2) Drell cartwheels (and Thane model overall) = super cool. 3) Quarian asses = so cool it made you forget the turret is shit. 4) Biotic dubstep = cool. 5) Sabotage cheese = cool. 6) grab kills = badass and cool. 7) Krogan grab kills = OMG HE DOESNT EVEN NEED OMNI SHITS cool. 8) Biotic bubble stasis = OMG YASS cool when you did it in the right place. 9) grenade spam = cool. 10) a fucking KROGAN NAIL THROWER (among other badass guns like Javelin) = cool. 11) different heavy melees with elemental effects = cool. 12) Novaguarding = cool.
Then, not much later, first DLC came, which introduced:
1) Geth turret recharging shields = cool 2) playing geth in the first place = cool 3) geth wallhack vision = super cool 4) biotic bubble ME2 sucicide mission style = cool 5) batarian wrist blades = savage and cool 6) batarian heavy melee = cool, with added hatesurfing lolz 7) batarians wearing spike armor = retardedly cool.
A lot of things never made sense. But the design team clearly wanted the shit they put in to be AWESOME, even if the reasoning for it was questionable. Each and every DLC followed this principle by giving you over-the-top characters and mechanics. But even the basic ME3MP looked a lot less... basic than what I see in ME:A.
What are the characters/powers with which ME:A takes it's chances and makes fun stuff with them? So far I haven't seen anything. I'm not even talking the absurd "really?" level of cool like N7 trenchcoat teleporting ironman.

Game just not supposed to be cool. It's about everyone's equal and unique and boring bots. Just saying how it feels Definitely agree with you. For f.. sake I'm Vorcha - insane and bloodthirsty with super cool dodge, super cool speed, melee, "Kill them", "Big monster", unique grab and so on.

I'm not really sure montreal actually understands Mass Effect and feverishly reading posts on reddit won't help you understand Mass Effect or maybe, maybe this is what Mass Effect 100% as defined by Mac Walters looks like.
It's incredibly incredibly frustrating how thematically and aesthetically dissonant this game is from the rest.
It's like a direct-to-video sequel where everyone who made the first is actually dead so everyone doing stuff is new, and possibly has never seen the originals at all ever so you get this
and then they are genuinely puzzled when the pitchforks show up.

Yes although teleporting through walls existed in ME3. MEA needs way more cool.

Fill a mook with Scorpion mines then sling him with well timed Krogan heavy melee from the landing zone in FBW. Sub-zero cool.

Long story short - the "rule of cool" is dead. Everything must be politically correct, tolerant, inclusive and gender-neutral .... effing EA.

It's not that there isn't cool stuff in ME:A... it's that, as OP pointed out, SO MUCH of the coolest stuff from ME3 is gone, often inexplicably.
I mean, jump packs, ground pounds, increased pull/throw utility, backlash, barricade, Charge/Nove/Charge Vanguard meta... these ARE all genuinely cool. There's just no good reason to lose cool, flavorful things like heavy melee and grabs in a game that can clearly recognize a held button vs. a tapped button.

I'm just going to bring up the Claymore to rectify the glaring omission of it not having been mentioned an hour and a dozen or so posts into a thread on the missing awesomeness of ME3MP.
Also, biotic combos that actually kill things.

Come off it. None of the things removed had ANYTHING to do with political correctness. English is my like 3rd language so maybe don't understand something right, but where do you see anything about "removed things" in his sentence? He's responding to the unexplained removal of features we all loved in ME3. You didn't read either post incorrectly, you just missed the inference. For all the blame cast on it, I've yet to see anyone be able to draw a logical connection between a socially progressive stance and: the gutting of melee complexity (which cost us cover grabs, krogan bitchslaps, and hatesurfing Volus exploding heads by punching dicks) the nerfing of power combos(although I'm not sure if it would be better or worse to have the old Most Wonderful Noise back with this crappy combo damage. I think it'd be even more of a letdown. the loss of unique evades (which is at least SOMEWHAT justified by the proliferation of jump jet evades- at least some biotics still have the biotic evades.)

Four-eyed amateurs... Vag-punch exploding-head FTW! Definitely a lack of cool. Even when something is kinda cool, like Backlash, it's also uncool. Like why does it take so little damage before breaking? It would have been cooler if it was just duration (cooldown) limited like Biotic sphere, and ranks effected what was reflected and how much damage. As is when you try to be cool and protect a teammate say disarming a device, a couple of mooks burst-fire and drop your shield <sigh>

A problem, though, is that these things often inexplicably fail. Like, take jump packs - all too often, you cannot jump - even with that jump pack. Not because you were taking damage, not because your jump pack broke, but because ... no idea, actually...

There are some cool things in the game but in practice other design decisions totally counter them. Things like hover attacking and hover/melee. In principle these things seem cool but in practice due to the way enemies react you hardly ever see them and you can't even practice getting good at them as you will die horribly.

Doesn't necessarily matter if you're good at ground-pound. Enemies sometimes just decide not to take damage from it.
