themikefest , that SB confetti is an awesome and unexpected surprise for the Eagles’ fans who donated to the Vikings’ charity. Very cool interactions between fan bases. There was similar niceties between Saints and Vikings fans after their game. Most fans are solid people who know the game is secondary to real concerns. frosted , that list of coaches whom the combine kids would like to play is surprising and humorous. Some make sense, but how does Jason Garrett make the list? People want a weak coach and 8-8? 🙄 Looks like Pederson will have to continue to be fearless and badass for a few more years to catch the kids’ attention. Who wouldn’t want to play for a guy with “emotional intelligence” (the nicest way Jeff Lurie could tiptoe around Chip Kelly’s inadequacies) and balls-to-the-wall fearlessness? I was worried Doug might be too “Andy Reid” at hiring. I liked him better than Andy 5 or 6 games into last year. Now I love him. I’d not trade him for any coach in the NFL. He out-coached pretty much everyone this year, and should’ve won CotY. (McVay did great, but the Eagles overcame everything they faced and even went on to win SB LII.) I’m no fool. This SB win doesn’t even guarantee a winning season next year. Still, I think Doug and his staff, Carson and his teammates, and Howie will keep them contending for the foreseeable future.

For Philly to have any chance to get back to the next Superbowl, they will need to take a hard look at their defense. New England took their strength and turned it into a weakness. Patriots kept them on the field not allowing them to change players. Not on every play of course, but enough to make a difference.

For Philly to have any chance to get back to the next Superbowl, they will need to take a hard look at their defense. New England took their strength and turned it into a weakness. Patriots kept them on the field not allowing them to change players. Not on every play of course, but enough to make a difference. That was the worst game they’d ever played, collectively the worst defensive game in NFL history. I’m not worried that a weakness has been exposed. Most games won’t be versus Brady and Belichick in a SB with two weeks of preparation. The Eagles often played with a lead, making their strengths scary. Two teams that could score with them, the Pats and Rams, led to exciting matchups. CB was the big weakness coming into the season, and those guys performed well above my fears. We’ll no doubt lose Patrick Robinson, who was the NFL’s best slot corner in a contract year, but we now have depth. We also get Sidney Jones finally, who was expected to be a stud. We’ll see. Our LB core was mangled with a “4th string” starter in the SB. Both pass coverage and positioning is much better with Jordan Hicks in the game. (He’s been PFF’s top coverage backer pretty much since entering the league.) I hope he’s the same player after returning. Mostly Howie Roseman has been a genius. I recall scoffing at the Ertz and Curry deals when they were made. Zach hadn’t lived up to it, yet, but is now elite. Vinny, though, is overpaid. I like him, but his contract is a problem. I’m mostly concerned about how much the Eagles lose this offseason. A player here and there can be filled by “next man up”, something they overcame all season. Depth is added and maintained via the draft. We’ll see how it goes. (This is year two of two on thin drafts— the price for acquiring Carson.) They will likely clear the cap space by parting ways with some Eagles legends. That side of the game always sucks. The NFC is loaded with good teams. There are good teams that didn’t even make the playoffs. There are reasons teams rarely return to the big game in consecutive years. I’ll approach next year with the usual trepidation and realistic expectations. It will be cool, though, knowing that SB is forever.

I can’t say I liked this for them, but they didn’t have a lot of compelling options. I’ve not read up on the details, but I’m sure the contract provides an easy exit should Bortles remain the Bortles we have come to know. $18M per year (on average assuming completion) is a bargain for a starting QB. It’s not like he’s being overpaid, really. That’s Mike Glennon money, if I recall correctly. Pretty reasonable for what Blake did and didn’t do this past season.

I looked at the "QB Confidence Index" just knowing I'd see Philly at #1. I was only mildly surprised to see them at #2 behind 41 yo Brady. I know he's the GoAT, but meh. They had an enviable situation before trading Garropolo. Now, it's like they are on life support. It's glorious, championship-level life support, but still... I wonder if 5 years from now Pats fans will wish Brady had retired sooner and Jimmy G had stayed a Patriot? It's impossible to guess at this point.

I never knew he had a stature of himself "giving Charlotte football". Ugh. Please tell me that was from another source, rather than a vanity project. Impressive work, either way.
Pretty cool article. It educated me on a few basic details of what's involved in buying a team. NFL owners are an interesting group. There are 32 different stories of how someone achieved billionaire status.

I think the far bigger fish to fry in the off-season will be fixing their evidence and considering Brady is showing no signs of slowing down. I guess. In hindsight, if he never wins another title and Garropolo is the real deal, they'd have been better off had he retired sooner. I'm not saying that will happen, just that I'm curious to see if it does. Maybe a lot of this generation of Pats fans are more specifically Brady fans? I love many individual Eagles throughout the decades, but the team always comes first. I don't get too sentimental about individual players once they're gone. They'll always be Eagles, as Brady will always be a Patriot, for life. Better to lose a guy at the right time than to hang on too long. Brady is the single toughest conundrum in history in this regard. You can't force out the GoAT, but it must've been wrenching to lose Garropolo. I think they had their next starter (star?) and let him walk for a 41yo QB. That's tough, Brady or not.

Jerrah' a douchewaffle, I've never heard of SeatGeek, and Dez definitely caught that pass. I didn't feel too badly for the ruling since: 1) It was the Cowpies, and 2) The Lions were cheated of a victory the week earlier.

I mean hell as much of a Red Sox fan I am I didn't care for them during the Bobby V years. Team loyalty is good but I don't really have the time to follow teams that aren't doing well. On the face of it though Brady says he will play till he sucks but I hope he gets out before then... that'll be difficult to watch.

Mo Wilkerson was a fat lazy underachieving dick who as soon as he got paid packed it in. Good riddance.
As for Josh Allen at QB. Just a massive buyer beware on him. Poor accuracy vs poor competition. I will be elated if some team in the top 5 picks him before the jets pick at 6.

Accuracy issues are definitely scary in a QB prospect but some scouts argue that the suspect Wyoming cast around him made him look worse than he really played. He did have a pretty good game in the Senior Bowl. Cam Newton has never been terribly accurate but has a big arm and has been productive for Carolina. I'm not blown away by any of the 1st-round QBs in this draft but I think they can all be players in the right fit. I got started with my NFL Draft research early this season once it was clear the Packers weren't going anywhere!

Gotta admit, I checked out of a couple games early this season after Rodgers went down. I always knew I was spoiled by good teams for as long as I've been following the Packers, but only last season did I truly get a taste of it. Hundley was bad, and not the entertaining kind (lol). We've had some down years since I became a Packer fan, but both Favre and Rodgers kept you watching, even when they were playing poorly. That said, I will probably always at least try to catch the game. Shoot, we almost upset the Steelers with Hundley in there. Ya truly never know...
