General Aetius you've been on the boards a good long while, long enough to know whose opinions you trust. You know, those who you've seen present fair and balanced arguments. Then go with their opinions on their experience so far. I'm sure some of them have played the early access. Otherwise, you'll just run into a lot of circular arguments and opinions that can just confuse you more. If I hadn't played already, just from the latest influx of opinions here I wouldn't know what to think. Yeah I do know whose opinions to trust: noone's lol. Now that is a wise decision.

They gave his height in the Twitter, but I can't find it. Scott is 6'1". I can't remember how tall Sara was, though. I do remember the huge debate in converting meters and centimeters to feet and inches. It worked out in a wonky way depending how it was done.

I don't see bad writing. As for Ryder's reactions to everything that happens, there are options that are more indicative of being more emotional. But Ryder was also brought up by a man who probably trained them to squash personal feeling somewhat in order to step up and do their duty.
In my opinion, that dialogue isn't bad and definitely not the worst. I like the story. All games need some exposition. Not everyone is familiar with the MEverse so new players will need it. And I thought as far as that goes, it was good without being a huge info dump.
Is it perfect? No. I haven't seen such a thing in any game I've ever played. From what I've seen so far I am sure ME:A will give us a good story, decent combat and humor.

Man what do people have against deserts? Anakin Skywalker got to you guys, didn't he? There's nothing wrong with deserts per se, but they're way overdone in sci-fi. It will be nice to move on to other planets that aren't deserts. I'd also like to see more wildlife that we can interact with that doesn't want to kill us and is furry for a change.

I like them equally. I'll have to do multiple playthroughs to see each one and their different reactions and stuff with all the dialogue choices.

... Herein lies the problem: One can choose from a number of preset faces. This is fine. What is not fine, is the simple fact that we were not given the option to choose the shape of facial features for the preset faces. We are unable to choose the shape of eyebrows, eyes, nose, nor mouth. Choosing specific shapes and then tweaking them further is the very core of creating a face that we connect to. Having sliders to only adjust placement of height, width, and depth of certain features is mind boggling. What will result are innumerable Ryders that may vary to some degree, but at the end of the day will remain quite similar in appearance. Cookie cutter characters are not what we signed up for. This needs addressed and it needs addressed in a timely fashion. It needs to be introduced in a way that does not make one completely start the game from the beginning when it is introduced. For example, if a player has 90 hours in the game, they will not want to start over to create a face that they really wanted from the beginning. That is unacceptable and unfair to ask of any player. I have a suggestion [hopefully it is within the realm of possibilities]. Revamp the character creator and introduce it in a way that the player can access it in game and not lose progress, only change appearance. Something akin to Fallout 4’s plastic surgeon or Inquisition’s “The Black Emporium” via a Nexus or hub area shop, Tempest upgrade, hell, even by way of an unsavory character performing experimental procedures in a dimly lit cave, off a beaten path— get this feature in, and get it in as soon as possible. It will please the masses immeasurably and remove the bitter taste from their mouths. Improvements needed:MOST IMPORTANTLY: Option to choose eyebrow, eye, nose and mouth shape, and then be able to tweak it further via more sliders. Previously mentioned sliders include: Brow thickness, tilt, & color Eye size, depth, tilt Nose bridge height & tip adjustment Mouth fullness, corner tilt, width, over/underbite Skin complexionRange of ages, more varied skin tones, more believable scars, less shiny- it looks lubed up with petroleum jelly lol. Makeup [more natural options] “traditional” eyeliner, lipstick, & blush options, not more abstract options like digital camouflage lipsticks, Clockwork Orange eyeliners, or Imperator Furiosa eyeshadow et cetera Tattoos [love that this was added, but the options are underwhelming] Take notes from Dragon Age or Skyrim. Make them more interesting and robust. The pixalated stuff around the eyes and face midline is strange and out of place, even if set in the future. Give option to be on both sides, as well as only left or right side. Hair [Hair is looks/moves nicely, but need more styles.] Allow both genders access to all hairstyles Mohawks & fauxhawks would be nice Really cool braided styles [think Lagertha or Ragnar, from Vikings] Half shaved or sides buzzed with longer top A few highlights, lowlights, or more depth in general [ie not so flat] If only one section of the above list can be improved upon, please choose to introduce facial feature shape choice. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to playing the game in its entirety, hopefully with a Ryder that is as aesthetically pleasing to me as possible. I do agree with most of this. I'm sure not everyone in the Initiative wants off the wall makeup. And why not add a salon later in game as you develop the Nexus? I don't care about the plastic surgery as much, but a place to change hair and makeup, even eyebrows as well as a tattoo parlor. If we're going to add dancers and bartenders at some point, there's no reason not to have those other things. At least in my opinion.

My biggest problem so far is the Nomad. Trying to steer it with a keyboard is very difficult. It's not very responsive or sometimes too responsive. When I finally get it going, it won't climb a small hill and then gets so stuck on a rock that I can't get it off. I realize this is the base model, but it shouldn't be this difficult to control in that environment. Pleeeeease get that tweaked. Or send a Mako. Mako was bouncy, but it could climb and handled much better with k&M.

I only got an hour in last night and have to head to work now, but for my 2 credits' worth of very first impression:
I love the characters already. Really, really love Sara more than I expected. Frydda did an outstanding job. All the VAs are so far. In the interest of saving time I went with the default and am happy. I'm not having any problems with facial animations.
Alec is awesome. His nose is too shiny, though.
I love that the NPCs have a bit so say as you go along and speak with them rather than just "Ryder." It isn't a lot, but it's enough to feel like they're actual members of the ship's crew.
Love the story and the fact that some questions I had were answered before hitting the shuttle.
Background is given without sounding like a tutorial. So far, it's all very conversational and natural.
Still getting used to the controls, but I'm sure I will. I don't care for using "shift."
Not so fond of the way navigation is done with the waypoints. That, I think is just my weird spatial ability or lack thereof. Maybe.
Andromeda is very much an explorer's paradise.
Combat is good. I haven't done much of it yet and just got to level 2, so hard for me to say yet.

I can't decide yet. I'll probably come up with some kind of blend of soldier/biotics that doesn't quite fit any previous class. We don't have set classes, right? I'll just experiment.

Mine is showing that it's ready for pre-downloading, but nothing happens and there's no place to click to start the download. I've never done trials before so I guess I have no idea how to get it going for tomorrow. If you click on the trial, where it use to say learn more it should now be download. Try restarting origin. Thanks. I did try that, but I ended up having to log out, update Origin, log back in and it started updated all my DA stuff, which made no sense. Then I was able to click the download for the trial. Now to slog through a 14 hour day tomorrow before I get home to play.

Its gunna be maddening when it hits the 16th here in a few hours but we gotta wait for America and the rest of the world to catch up 😠 Wut. It's unlocked in 1 minute for playing judging by "windows release date" and last time I checked trial wasn't affected by timezone (not different from mine when I tried a quick trip to Korea). Strange. Mine is showing that it's ready for pre-downloading, but nothing happens and there's no place to click to start the download. I've never done trials before so I guess I have no idea how to get it going for tomorrow.

I have no problem with Sara's looks. The first trailer, I wasn't so sure, but then I knew she wasn't finished yet. Or pretty sure. At any rate, I'm happy with how she is. Except the eye color. I wanted them with brown eyes. Not a deal breaker, though. I don't understand why so many people complain about the defaults when you can create your own. I agree she probably would look better with brown eyes rather than blue. If your going to have blue eyes then blonde or red hair is probably better that tends to be what I do anyway with my characters. But yeah I never complained about it as I knwe the game has a CC and I can mould her into the kind of girl I want. Which I fully intend to do. I have dark brown hair and blue eyes, so for me it's nothing special. I think some people believe that combo is unusual or something. Anyway, I had wished we could just tweak the defaults for coloring, but since that's not going to happen I'll stick with them unless there are some really good basic presets. I'm not great with creating characters. They all end up looking the same, like my Inquisitor play throughs.

I wonder why they're hiding Sara. Maybe because every time they even showed a glimpse of Sara they were met with a storm of comments about her appearance? Honestly, the critique, at first, had nothing to do with animation. People didn't like her face, and Bioware caved and brought in Scott to ease the beast. The entire thing pisses me off...I fully believed they intended to market both twins equally, hence showing Sara in the first ever trailer. This is why we can't have nice things. I figured that was the most likely reason. People are so strange sometimes. They get up in arms over the smallest thing. I just realized this was my 500th post. I'm now a go...gahh. Not even an N4.

Still, when you don't have enough resources to support people like scientists, military or traders, you have enough to support bartenders and dancers? That makes no sense to me. Yes, I get it...relaxation is important, yada yada. But you can drink and hang out with friends by bringing your own and listen to pre-recorded music and watch vids. Even today some bars have robotic bartenders. But no...you have to house and feed live people who dance and dispense drinks. No logic there at all unless the physicians and researchers are moonlighting. Not really arguing the logistics or how much sense it makes, just commenting that people will pay for such luxuries in areas where they would be scarce. That being said there was an episode of Battlestar Galactica that touched on something like this. Humanity is in survival mode with only 50k alive looking for a new home and yet a black market emerged and sex workers were becoming a common occurrence. In that case it was partially because they needed supplies and food for survival and had no trade skills that would have been of use in their new world. This is a civilian venture and an apparently well funded one at that... people need some downtime and entertainment. Can't devalue morale. Suvi needs more than space rocks to lick tbh... True. But the situation is a bit different. In Battlestar, people were already awake and alive. In Andromeda, everyone is frozen until you choose to wake them up. I would think entertainment is something that you'd come by differently and you'd allocate those resources a bit more carefully. There are alternate methods of entertainment than having people who take up too many resources. And there seem to be plenty of people around to entertain each other when needed. AI is well funded, but they didn't bring enough along to feed everyone, counting on those golden worlds to provide what they need. Not arguing the point, I'm just puzzled by the logic or lack thereof of that kind of decision. Of course, the AI seems to be a badly thought out idea from the start. We'll see.

So Scott romance confirmed? Or bi? Scott called him a male in one of the trailers lol I wonder if we see two different ones. Or Scott doesn't know that it's a female at first glance. Kind of hard to tell if you've never met one before. Not all females of all species needs to have the same parts as Milky Way genders, I'm guessing. Maybe they lay eggs. Or feed their young differently.

It's kind of funny imagining a bunch of AI recruiters going around to local strip clubs trying to convince dancers to make a 600 year journey to be Andromeda strippers. It's not that ridiculous actually. In Alaska, a majority of the strippers are not natives and were basically "recruited" to come up there. Not much demand for locals I guess...what with either being homeless and/or on meth... Edit: Full disclosure: I can't 100% confirm that's the truth. This is what my old co-workers told me when I lived there for awhile and they're not the most reliable bunch...Either way your post made me remember that and chuckled. Still, when you don't have enough resources to support people like scientists, military or traders, you have enough to support bartenders and dancers? That makes no sense to me. I wonder why they're hiding Sara. Didn't they start trailers with her and everyone was all "ooh, they're featuring a female protagonist instead of a male for a change." There were dev comments about that, too. Then suddenly, you barely see her. I know we're supposed to get a trailer-which I won't watch-but it seems like an afterthought. Isn't it just that the people playing the twitch streams want to play BroRyder? Or did these come from some official Bioware/EA reveal? I was thinking more of the official reveals. They started out showing Sara but people complained so much about her looks, I'm thinking that's why we see more of Scott's face since the beginning. We see Sara, but usually with a helmet.

Irrespective of what they look like, there will be endless wailing about 'ugly SJW biower lesbian wimin'... Seems to be the internet we have... I could understand BioWare viewing Sara/female CC as a no-win scenario (from a marketing perspective) Yeah, I know. Which is ridiculous. I think Sara is cute. I'd prefer to tweak both defaults as far as hair and eye color, but otherwise I like them. I know you can't do that though. Still, I guess some people just feel important by complaining over such things.
