Its been pretty bland besides, imo. Am I the only one? Judging by your avatar and signature I'm guessing you only play "mature, gritty" games. Going by that metric, yes. However, there was: Mario Odyssey Zelda Breath of the Wild Neir Automata Nioh Persona 5 Sonic Mania All amazing games.

Are you telling me Andromeda is the only memorable game this year? Oh boy. Someone's about to burst a blood vessel. Considering many folks on this board have gone on record here saying they refuse to play a game unless it has romance options, hearing this is sadly not surprising.

Well, with the original being on sale and you all talking about how good it is I decided to buy it. Any advice for a new player in terms of what class and skills make a good combination between the two protagonists? Magic is super powerful in this game due to the crowd control. Fire/Earth mage is a good combination for one person as it synergizes well. Poison Enemy --> Light them on fire for an explosion. Other character can be whoever but I prefer a Ranger because of the elemental arrows.

Building on what I posted earlier, the side-eye about Liara is because it feels disingenuous as Bioware spent years swearing up and down that the Asari are not female (and that they are the textbook-case discount lesbians cliche). They really should have used Vetra instead.
But again, I'm not a lesbian or bisexual woman so if people see the Asari as positive representation, more power to them.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer, Gilmancers, but I doubt you'll be getting any kind of extra scenes outside of maybe one or two in the DLC, if there is any to begin with.

I don't think the dev really thought that about Gil, I think they were just lying. If they weren't lying and actually thought that, I think that's actually worse... It's hard to say, but from how they replied (in a DM) it seems they did think Gil was great and seemed clueless to why no one wanted to try him and wanted a squadmate instead (even said they didn't get the big deal about squadmate romances). They probably looked at Steve and Samantha, saw the praise for them on gaming websites, and went "OK, let's do that again".

With only a week to go until EA Play, I wonder if Bioware is going to launch the patch before the event or after while at the event they discuss it a bit along with other new content like DLC. Nah, Bioware has never announced any Mass Effect DLCs during E3 in the past, and I doubt they would be announcing a patch for stuff they should have included in the base game. It sends a pretty poor message. The unveil will be 100% the totally-not-a-Destiny-clone game they have been hyping.

As for the Kotaku article, they don't provide any source, quotes or anything. It could be right, but could also be pulled straight out of ass and Kotaku got history of doing that. I'm concerned about DLC but I don't believe there won't be any major story DLC out. Even friggin' DA2 got some and that situtation was worse than Andromeda It's been making the rounds on other video game forums and some insiders have come forth and strongly hinted that it's going on the backburner for several years. It's dead, Jim.

Should we assume this means no DLCs forthcoming? If so, that would be incredibly disappointing. I think there should at least be one. The VA for Cora mentioned doing voice work a little while ago.

From the sounds of the article what it means is that BioWare simply wont be developing a new Mass Effect game right away. BioWare Edmonton(the old Mass Effect team) is currently working on the new IP so they're not going to be handed Mass Effect again anytime soon. Montreal also wont be taking it because they've been downsized and turned into a support studio, which is back to the role they had in ME3. As they're quick to point out it's hard to believe that BioWare wont ever make another Mass Effect game, but if this article is true then it does mean it's going to sit on the shelf for a little bit while they figure out where they want to go from here. Sort of like when they said there's no green light for DA4 I'm guessing. DA4 is going to happen, they just haven't officially announced it yet. It was well reviewed and sold well. I'd bet my account on that. This feels awfully like what happened with Deus Ex . . . Yeah, if that is true that makes two of my favorite franchise put on hiatus in one year. Oh man, don't remind me, ugh. And the latest game ended on a huge cliffhanger too.

I have zero hope for any videogame movie being good. The only one that is is Wreck-It-Ralph, and that doesn't even technically count. As I've said in the past, I would be perfectly content to have a Mass Effect movie remain in development hell, where it belongs. It would probably suck, but it would also most likely star male Shep, so I would have to bypass it just on principle since he does not exist to me. I find this amusing as you were complaining about the lack of m/m content in the Romance thread.

Adding to the discussion: If they are going to do add stuff specifically with the m/m options, it will likely be Reyes. He's a popular romance, he has a lot of unanswered questions about him, and he can potentially be a temporary squadmate. Any extra scenes with Gil will just be in addition to whatever new scenes the other LIs have. Bioware probably just wants to wash their hands clean with him and be done. If they plan on continuing Ryder's story in the sequel, they can't. Because of the baby. Ugh, I know. They also have to take into account the tiny percentage of people who decided not to have Gil take care of the baby, so who knows how they'll pull that off. In a vacuum, though, Reyes doesn't actually need extra content. He has the content appropriate for what he is, a planet-bound, story-bound character. And any extra content will also go to Sara. That may seem petty on my part, but that is not giving extra care to m/m options specifically, as would be the case with working on Gil, or even making Jaal bi for that matter. Unfortunately, since Gil is unpopular, they might not see it as worthwhile to add new scenes to his romance arc. Plus they have to figure out the whole baby thing. =/ Reyes is popular with m/f folk so it's seen as a much more worthwhile investment. Bi Jaal is a pipe dream. I'd eat my hat if they decided to do that.

Hopefully the Great Gayening is included in this one and not the next patch, I wanna start my Reyes playtrhough. Well, the Multiplayer is broken in some aspects so don't be surprised if the patch focuses on that and little else. Not to be a pessimist, but they might just be folding whatever they have planned on the m/m front into their first DLC, whenever that releases. Hell, has Bioware ever actually patched in any scenes via a free update before? There's the Extended Cut, but that was treated officially as a piece of DLC by Bioware.

It is the same really... sure there are different levels of controversy for different reasons but everyone gets shit for being other than straight. Using the amount of bisexual female characters as proof that lesbians have it better (which isn't what anyone in their quotethread is doing but it goes hand in hand with this idea) is ignoring that the one lesbian character in Dragon Age is reviled, knowing that if she was bisexual and made to visibly appeal to men rather than lesbians her abrasive personality would've been excused more, and that Suvi was an afterthought whose existence barely made it into the game as is and had to be fought for. However I will say I understand thinking so just because I know I am lucky I can have a few fleshed out romance options (even though they are heterosexual inteded copypasted messes lol) Funny you mention that because Traynor didn't get anywhere near the amount of hate that Cortez did.

"Dark" is such a subjective term to begin with. Pieces of fiction can be dark without having to resort to shock tactics.
I would consider Majora's Mask a "dark" story despite it having an E rating as it deals a lot of issues not found in other Zelda games.

They made a bigger deal about Dorian is because he was the first gay male squadmate in Bioware games. Sera wasn't the first lesbian squadmate in Bioware games, that being Juhani in KOTOR. None of the articles mentioned other BW games. It was 'First gay Dragon Age squadmate.' Hence my annoyance. He and Sera were both the first but apparently she just wasn't worth the same coverage. Having a gay man in video games is much more controversial than having a lesbian in one, and everyone knows exactly why. Remember Tracer from Overwatch? How there was controversy? Now picture the pushback if one of the male characters was revealed to be gay (or, heaven forbid, trans) instead. Openly gay men are still a big controversy in games, ME:A is living proof. Also, Dorian is an important character to David Gaider, who was the lead writer in Inquisition. He probably talked more about Dorian because of how personal it was to him as a gay man.

Yaoi has its issues, but the reason it's so vilified while yuri isn't is because yaoi is usually written by women. Y'know it never occurred to me - and I'm not sure if you'd know - but is yuri written more predominantly for wlw by wlw? I hardly see any men talk about yuri like women talk about yaoi (which I'm glad for tbh). It is, there are quite a lot of yuri stories written by women. Most of it is also not nearly as rape-y as yaoi, either.

we were worried from the start when we heard that the only gay people weren't even going to be on the squad (especially in the case of gil; we wlw at least knew were were getting peebee and probably vetra) because we thought that meant they would get the least content. and we were right, because that's exactly what happened. aside from flings they got the least content, and in gil's case it was poorly written content too. i myself had hope for a while, with everyone saying 'look at josie and cullen! they had decent romances and they weren't on the squad!' and yeah. look what became of that.LOL, I remember that. When it was revealed that Gil and Suvi had Character Creator faces, people here were still swearing up and down that that they had tons of content and weren't another Steve and Samantha. I think everyone was in a state of denial.
