Okay, just finished the quick 6 episodes of Absolution... Okay - so... Meredith lives! Kinda. She's basically a talking lump of red lyrium, which makes me wonder how this fits into Tevinter Nights. I'm guessing Absolution happens before TN? Or could this have happened because the lyrium idol was removed from her? Also, she seems to be commanding red templars and somehow operates in Kirkwall. In secret? Yeah, I've got questions... Also, a few decent story twists in this one. Fairbanks is dead, presumed to be a traitor, but turns out he was one of the good guys. Hira winding up being the conflicted antagonist. Gameplay-wise, I wonder if the spells we see in Absolution are just for the show or will we see similar spells in DA:D? A disc you can fly on would be handy... I think they're keeping to a timeline with the media- I don't think they're doing more than overlapping slightly. (Edit, I'm kind confused about the timeline) And considering Varric is on the move in the upcoming comic series, I imagine Meredith finally winning control over Kirkwall with a red lyrium...ghost fist is what drove him out. Fenris is better though. Count me as remaining a forever fan of Fenris, but not loving Miriam. I always have to question whether I'm biased. Do I dislike Miriam because she's female, and I'm not attracted to her? Is it because I would let a guy be an asshole but not a woman? I've wondered these sorts of questions as I've forced myself to watch Avatar Korra. Gawd, she is such a stupid child, but so was Aang. But he was a 12 year old stupid child and Korra is like 16, is what I tell myself, that is why I can dislike Korra freely. Maybe. MAJOR) gripe is the animation. This was still better than the comics, but I was a little thrown about the introduction scene in the first episode where it was clearly CGI and then they switched over to regular. But I hate the elven ears sticking straight the fuck out too, come on. It makes the bat faced insult actually make sense. I still would respect the show more if Hira wasn´t new. Yeah there are plenty of unnamed Inquisition members but also a ton who also weren´t that fleshed out like Fairbanks She was interesting in that she actually never joined the Inquisition? She showed up with the rallying cry of lets destroy Tevinter and Leliana was like...ya, no. I get what you're saying, but it's not happening. But also, what was Hira even carrying during that scene, some sort of glowing jewlery

Holy Fuck!! I've watched it all. Knight Commander Meredith's spirit/soul is in the red lyrium!!!!
!@#$#@%$#^%^%$#&^%&% Brain Blown! She was such a good villain.
And somehow Varric hasn't seen this happening in his own city? Is this why he's been driven out to not be viscount anymore? Has he lost the city to Red Lyrium Templars?
If this is the reason why Varric is rejoining us, I'm not as pissed about it, gotta say. And is this moment when Fairbanks knew Hira was the traitor because she so easily got through the magic barrier? Rez the Magister had given her the password to it. So that just confirmed to him she had to be dealt with on the spot. And there I was, doubting Fairbanks! Maybe the only the letdown, Lords of Fortune seem very glorified merc to me. I was hoping for more about that faction to be deeper. Like, the Crows have more honor/depth. I am glad that they didn't kill the dragon. and it was nice to see someone say out loud, "you know they just going to be terrorizing the countryside" "yep."
But more dragons, not less, yaaaa! And I want Tassia for DA:D, she should be a good choice.A Tevinter Templar who was saved the heartbreak of having to report and have Rez executed for blood magic. Do not want to romance her with that baggage, but she's a solid Sword/Board tank with strong morals.

Just finished episode 2 The first episode was some meh but the 2nd episode I noticed a lot of rogue-esque magic being given to the mages. I suppose we got that one ring even in DAI that would let a mage go invisible, but this was implied as just a thing she could cast. Then there was the hovering disk that was very D&D "floating disk" to it. We saw slow? that was combined with some sort of stone shard attack. barrier. Lock Glyphs, encircle glyphs (D&D Hold person but on spirits?)
Also, Reseren pissed me off so much for fucking up that spirit into a pride demon. Like come on with the patience here, how many effin spirits you think you can call up after this that could have answered your questions? Why would you hurt this one until it was ruined?
I was shocked with Faribanks' attempted murder of Hira. Didn't see that coming, honestly have no idea why it happened.
Neither the Qun or Solas want blood magic items crafted long ago by mortal magisters. The Inquisition could have just left it alone, it has literally gone unused for decades? centuries? Going after it will likely cause it to become used? I question the legitimacy of the mission.

I was getting some serious Mass Effect vibes from that Transformers game... ya, I was like, omg, is that a Reaper? are they going to have an Earth based game where Shepard is off doing somethiing somewhere else and we're like, the surviving rebels earthside? and then. . . it was some Transformers game.

Isn't he supposed to be Kirkwall's Viscount now? That should keep him busy enough to prevent him from going gallivanting abroad. Although I'm fine with him being an informal chronicler of his Age - but nothing more. There is a tie in lead up comic where Varric and Scout Harding are going to be doing something together. That's supposedly going to explain Varric being more involved in Dreadwolf.

It was the most recent trailer. up until this week, I thought he was just going to be a contact, or a limited advisor if we were doing something in the free marches specifically. The moment they pretty much made it crystal clear he was going to be more, I was very grumpy. I like the Viscount being Varric, I like it a lot. Because regardless of where Hawke is at, he not only survived but was promoted, and, for the most part, is happy. But they just won't leave him the fuck alone.

A qunari that others amongst them are brainwashed to show fear? Well, then they lost a valuable tool when the Qunari embraced their more traditional training and dropped him like a hot rock to be executed as they returned back to a higher ranking bully. I do also hope/ think based on the time skip that DA:D itself might take place over several years for its plot rather then the one we saw for Inquisition and Origins. Is it 8 years that's passed now since Trespasser?

I'm still with you though. I'm not expecting the Qunari conflict to be resolved in this game per se. Either we'll get a peace treaty/ cease fire with the stated expectation that hostilities could resume at some point in the future, or the Qunari will still actively be fighting everyone after the Dreadwolf is dealt with and that will be dealt with via DLC. I agree with this. In Heimdall 's recent video, he reminded me that the previous Qunari Invasion spanned 150 years and that they, at worse, withdrew due to the local population doing so poorly, not so much that they'd given up their takeover plans. With the help Mythal's vessel herself and the mighty Plot Shield, we overcame a Blight in a year when many Blights before spanned decades. I hope they don't do the same to a Qunari Invasion.

I just don’t know how an entire race brainwashed into being units of a cohesive whole, with Stens being chosen that reflect that the most, in a society that “reeducates” anyone that doesn’t fit the mold, produces Lash the abusive leader of that little possy chasing the Antivan Crow Duo. Like, way before the schism, this creature was allowed to exist in the above described environment. What is going on in Seheron to allow this? To me this implies something has been wrong a while, even before Trespasser, that even their lowest interchangeable military units were allowed to have so much of a personality.

wouldn’t be as recognizable as Varric, same goes for the unknown voice. If it's a teaser just for us TWUE FANS (tm) then it didn't need to be recognizable. We want new info. If it's for potential fans, it's not recognizable at all. Also, Varric narrating in DA:D implies he survives the events of DA:D, doesn't it? he's written a book and is telling the story? but Dorian could’ve been not recruited in the Inquisition. For the Trespasser DLC this is irrevelant. I did a no recruit anyone and just the bare minimum run but Dorian is always a companion in Trespasser because even if the player went this route there is always a mage companion as an option. Also i would argue that it doesn´t matter if Dorian is recruited or not that the Inquisition still has some connection with the new Lucerni faction. Exactly, all players of DAI are forced to meet Dorian in base game.

I am the grump face for not being able to watch the first episode being streamed. I get why they do this, but there shouldn't be an EIGHT day difference when I'm a paying customer of Netflix. Should have been like, a 2 day difference at most. It's uncomfortable trying to avoid spoilers and I understand why some folks go completely dark for weeks at a time. All that whine aside, totally bingeing it at upon it's release, even if it's like, midnight.

’m not sure there are many characters that would’ve been able to fill his spot - Could have been Morrigan. Claudia Black is on record via tweet as not having been asked to work on DA:D (and Kate Mulgrew was asked at a convention, no go there as well.)
- Could have been Dorian, someone we actually are looking forward to being there, is confirmed as being in Tevinter, and is actually going to make sense as being involved.
- Could have been Maeveris' intended voice actor.
- Even cooler, could have been a mystery female voice we would later learn IN GAME was the new vessel of Mythall. Here we would be, wondering who the new voice is for months and months.
Instead of Varric and being like... Okay, ya, I guess if the writers decide to fuck up that cool Viscount position he earned in Kirkwall being such a pillar of the community he could be our group again.

Maybe it would spoil the anime and comics they still want to sell us on? So the games are secondary to those? That’s a terrible idea. Also I don’t even see how that would be the case. Not secondary. Just following a timeline they created.

I think if DAD does well, they will get back to a release model that isn't so infrequent and be as proliferative as Assassin's Creed. I recognize Bioware isn't as big as that company, but they released DA2 in like 2 years, if they can just...settle into Frostbite tools for a good decade with no further changes.
Anyway, I'm 35. I don't think they have 4 more in them as they stand now, but I'd live to see and play them if they existed.

I don't think 2018 me would have ever believed we'd still be discussing the semicircles in 2022 and the game wouldn't even be released for another year (or so). I was literally scrolling through thinking- I barely had the energy for this two years ago, I got nothing for it now. I don't want to be a sour puss I wanna be excited but circles aren't going to do it for me.

I gotta say, spreading the story over 4 countries will either be underwhelming, a la Val Royeaux, or overwhelming, because you'd get 4 countries worth of developing content thrown at you, and I'm afraid a good part of it will feel like fluff......I want the Qunari to continue inspiring Borg levels of dread (when the Borg were also good, anyway). I am so ready to be overwhelmed. With 8 year gaps, I want it to last Also, yes, exactly my point. They're just "rawr, hulk smash, submit to the Qun!" With none of the same cold dread one would feel facing a borg cube.

colfoleyI'm no more intimidated and frightened by the warlords ravaging Tevinter and Antiva than I was by Immortan Joe and his henchmen from Mad Max: Fury Road. Lack of organization matters when it comes to war, and their very minds seem to be coming apart at the seams. What they seem to be doing is making a lot of initial momentum due to Tevinter being so corrupt they're literally frozen in uncertainty for lack of real leadership. And taking one Antivan city on the coast, a nation with no army, is hardly a masterful feat.

It's December 4th, 2022. And we got a trailer that tells us again that Varric will be involved and that everybody has to stop Solas. Which is zero new information.
But we got a short story that has the military arm of the Qunari occupying an Antivan city. The Llomerryn Accords have been broken.

As Antivan Crow as that ending is, which makes me smile... it still makes me grumpy. Why would the Crows, wanting to show who owned Antiva, wait for contracts to be drawn up? What is the purpose of a Qun Occupation if it isn't to force convert the very population that surrounds them ? Why would Southern Thedas sit there and watch the Qun occupy Antiva, a clear break of the Llomerryn Accords, and not think it's time to rally? Especially since as of comics, it seems like Tevinter is losing ground fast. Why have the qunari military leaders devolved into minor warlords? Why would the Qun even allow the sort of soldiers that lack any control of their chaos, practically Tal Vashoth in their violent intensity, even willing to beat, flog, and flay their own fellows? These sorts of people had to haven been allowed to exist before being sent out into the field.
Ya, I know it's not my story, not my Qun, but this all just seems so out of character. I actually used to be fearful of a Qunari invasion, the mere idea intimidating, but this a fractured violent mess easily mopped up as soon as people get their heads out of their asses and actually organize a force against them. As I think more on it, it's possible they're Tal Vashoth without realizing it. The priesthood haven't officially sanctioned this war, as there is some sort of schism. There is no logic/purity of their religion to rein them in. As as they slowly lose themselves, things that would have been immediately questioned seem tame comparatively to the chaos all around them.

I’m curious how they’ll handle it. They’ve never done a sequel as far as I know, so I’m curious how they’ll handle things like the choices of the first game. It's not a sequel, it's actually a prequel of sort and you play as a native this time around. From the press release: The story starts three years before the events of the first game and the adventures of De Sardet. This time you play as a native of Teer Fradee, uprooted by force from your island and taken to the continent of Gacane, where the colonists are from. In this old world ravaged by war and scarred by the Malichor plague and the political scheming of the different factions, you must regain your freedom and control of your own destiny. Using diplomacy, cunning or combat, as well as help from allies you make, it’s up to you to end one man’s ambitions of conquest, which could spell the end for the continent and your island. I'm ready for this. Pocahontas 2, but better. Pleeeeease better romance options. Although the issue was mostly lack of content.
