Program a game badly, get bad reviews, get less sales than expected. Fail to patch its flaws, slash price of game, still fail to sell as many copies as expected. I think Bioware just hit rock bottom.
I had high hopes for patch 1.06 - was expecting an improved character creator but above all else, the game needed to not stutter. Yeah... those bugs are still present even after the patch. I haven't even checked to see if the game still randomly crashes yet so it may be worse than i thought.

I bought ME1 for $4.99 at a Air Force BX bargain bin. It was maybe 5 months before ME2 came out. Wasn't even aware it had ever come out for PC, but remembered reading about it for XB. And that was a great game.
I probably won't buy MEA for anything less. I'd need a version with all the patches already on the disk. I'm not buying a game that requires tons of downloads just to be "meh". I'll only pay for the complete game.

Sales of the game can't be too bad... All indications point to them reaching their "3 million copies sold in the first week" target, so I think it is selling just fine. If they sold 3 million at $60 each, that's $180 million, so I think with a supposed $40 million budget, plus other things like advertising (probably another $40 million) still put the profit pretty high for the game. Add DLC income when that comes out, as well as microtransactions in multiplayer and deluxe and super-deluxe editions, and I think EA should be pretty happy with game sales. |

A lot of games (even Triple A titles) are starting to get 20%-30% price cuts just a few weeks after release. Have read that this could be a publisher attempting to pad shipped/sold numbers for the game before the fiscal Quarter is up. |

I'm in my early 40's and I've been gaming since I was 6 yrs old. Mass Effect is my favorite franchise and work of fiction. Period. I don't want BioWare to crumble. But I can see where and why they failed. It's all on them. |

I've seen them when they've done great work and I've been a loyal customer. I've bought every game of theirs for full price; even the f**king shitty ones like DAII. didn't know at the time. I bought it on faith and I regretted it. But I've come back every time. All that said, if Bioware is a business and I'm a customer. I spent good money; I have expectations. Those expectations are not met, i'm going to complain. In this case, lots of people are complaining. Bioware made the decisions that brought them to this place; now they are going to have to deal with the consequences. I will truly regret if they end up going under at some point but I will not be surprised. A lot of you guys are acting like Bioware is your best friend; they are not. They are a business. They are interested in making money. It used to be they told great stories in order to get your money; now, not so much. It's gotten cheap; they're cutting corners. And people are seeing it and that's how you end up with what is going on now. Being disappointed in a product and expressing it isn't hating; it's criticism. I've done it with cars and I do it with games. If anybody is injecting too much emotion into this, it's white knight super fans that act like Bioware is a family member. |
