This might be truly old news to everyone but me, but I just saw this pair of videos that compares how the Crossroads look to a Lavellan versus an Inquisitor of another race. I had no idea!?!?
The most noticeable differences are the trees and the "atmosphere". Both are more colorful and alive for elves.
Lavellan (elf):
Trevelyan (human), I think:
MIND BLOWN!

I've only played elf so I never saw the difference, only heard my character talk about it.

Yeah, it's different in the main game, too. It's a bit more subtle, but if you take a Lavellan with Morrigan, vs any other race through the eluvian to the Crossroads, the appearance is different.

It was a nice nod to Masked Empire where we first learned that Elves see the Crossroads as much more vibrant and beautiful than other races. Though in the book, Elves also were able to move around more quickly, while other races felt somewhat hindered there.

There was a discussion in the Solas thread about this very phenomenon in the Crossroads and it sounded very similar to an actual rare genetic condition in humans called tetrachromacy.
We can say that elves have a tapetum lucidum like the way cats do that helps them see in the dark by reflecting light back from that opalescent membrane in the back of their eye. It's supported by their superior night vision that had Loghain even employ them as a Night Watch and the references to the way their eyes shine in the dark like a cat's eyes.
But a richer color vision when everyone else sees monochrome? That's something restricted to the Crossroads but it sounds exactly like Tetrachromacy. To see 100 million more shades of color. A fourth color receptor that allows you to see the red edging an otherwise green leaf, where plain white snow looks like an opal sheen instead to you. Too bad it's so rare that only women have reported it and only those who have the training to differentiate colors like an artist would. Plus the drawback of an increased chance that your children will develop color blindness. We don't have proof as there are no elves complaining of sensitivity to color and being unable to look at garish places the equivalent of a mall or a supermarket to us. But it's still fascinating how much in game lore mirrors actual real life phenomena.

You can see in the video that the trees that had bare branches in the Trevelyan playthrough, are covered in pink leaves in the Lavellan playthrough. Elves seem to have a whole other level of perception.

Fair point, if it was just color blindness, even other races should have been able to see the leaves.

I had Fenris in one of my fanfics being able to see quite well in the dark, good to know it could be based on the lore rather than just something I thought was interesting

I didn't notice a difference between my Trevelyan and Lavellan in my game? It's a pretty big difference. The crossroads turn from being gray and quite dull to colourful and vibrant.

You know there is a part of me that wants to investigate this phenomena a bit more.
Like, can I feel, touch and taste what I can also see? If I were to eat that crossroad apple, and eat it, would I actually gain sustenance from it or is it really just a pretty illusion? And what about weapons? If there was a weapon that only elves can perceive but no one else, can I use that weapon to hurt non-elves or will it be nonexistent to them?

I noticed it right away, since I remembered Sera's comment about Crossroads from my previous pt. But I can see how one can not notice it right away.
I really like small details like this. Gives you a feeling that you're really playing different race that [insert any other race you played].

It took me about five or six runs of trespasser between elf and non elf inquisitors to notice there was a change. I wasn't focused on the environment, I was focused on moving from point a to point b.

I would think so. Am I blind? XD Hey, if it makes you feel better, I can also barely notice a difference in colour/saturation even with both videos looking at the same thing. I can notice the tree flowers and energy bands in the sky, but not much colour difference. I think I may be partially colour-blind, at least when it comes to hair and fur I seem to be able to see everything else the same as everyone else, just not that sometimes. All I see are some trees have blossoms, some don't? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. I feel like this is the blue dress all over again LMAO. Which blue dress? I'm curious.
