Could EA be orchestrating the MEA hate?

Ok, bare with me for a few minutes. And put on your tinfoil hat. I stole a keg of Ryncol from ZipZap, so I take no responsability to what this might generate.



First, fyi, i consider the game to be good (not amazing, it certainly has its flaws), I had a great time with it overall, and because what I liked outshined the stuff I didnt like, I give the game an 8/10 with a lot of room for improvement with upcoming DLCs.



Ok, so this is Mass Effect. What's the 2 things we know about it? Many people love it. Even more people hate it (because of the ME3 ending). So, going forward into a new game, they need to make it good, really good, i mean, so good that everybody will forget the hate and the franchise will redeem itself. But EA is kinda greedy, they dont want to spend the bucks to make sure this will be as close to a masterpiece as possible. And to redeem the hate generated from ME3, they would need a lot of money and heart put into it, and a very experienced team to do so. But instead they gave it to a B or even C team from Bioware and 40Million dollars. Hmm.... *Scratches head.



So, EA knows its going to be really hard to make a ME game that will please everybody, and they know its much easier and affordable to make a game that, while good enough to please diehard fans, is not good enough to wipe the slate clean. So, how about cashing in on the hate? How about generate hate for game? How about use the immense hate that is already there, and fan its flames? Make sure its animations and dialogue suck balls specially for those playing the previews and have the limited access before launch. Make sure the critics hate it, make sure the reviewers mimic the critics that dont like it, make sure every Bioware hater gets an excuse to bash the company and the franchise even more. Make sure EVERYBODY is talking about it! Loudly! Like screaming to the heavens how bad the game is.



I mean, there is no such thing as bad publicity right? As long as people are talking about it, people are buying it, even if just to see what all the rage is about. And suddenly, you have a game that eveybody hates, that performs as well as The Witcher 3, which everybody loves. *Scratches head harder.



“You insane?? MEA performs as well as Witcher 3? Give that Ryncol back to ZipZap!”



Ye, not really, think about it. Few days from release, Mac Walters was already talking about MEA players in the millions (as in plural, as in more than 1Million), then EA comes out to say their predictions for first month of sales is 3Million copies (and thats not a number they just threw out there, it was a prediction based off the pre-order and first days sales). Now they are saying they are happy with how the game performed. So, while speculation and no evidence besides word of mouth, it's safe to assume that after 2months from release MEA has sold 3Million copies. Witcher 3, sold something around 6Million copies (a bit more, but didnt reach 7), which is a killer number! Outstanding. (oh and btw i'm not counting DLCs ofc, MEA is not there yet, so lets compare only the base game) But Witcher 3 costed 80Million, which is double than MEA cost. So if MEA sells half the numbers of Witcher, it performed just as well.



Mindblow! A game that has generated so much hate, has performed as well as a game that generated so much love.

So what I'm saying, is that it might be possible that all the hate from ME3 has been harnessed by EA and turned into a marketing strategy to syphon and direct hate into sales. Making sure a game that by all accounts would be impossible to make as much revenue as the OT, into a freaking success. Even if the game lacks the quality for such success. Quite brilliant if you think about it. And Evil. Very Evil! Ea is sitting on a comfy armchair in the dark, stroking a kitten and cackling madly while it eats the hate and drinks the tears of the players.



I know i know, this is just nonsense spouting. But the more I think about it, the more sense it makes. Even this whole Kotaku fake news, take a good look at it. Kotaku used a non-news piece, talking about normal procedure for a company like Bioware and spins it as indication that ME is doomed and shelved because the game bombed. What happens overnight? Mass Effect Andromeda is trending all over again, almost 2 months after release, all gaming outlets talking about it, more publicity, more sales. Is it so far fetched to think that the marketing team for the game is behind all this?? Im half expecting a DLC announcement very soon, to make sure they make the most of the game being all over the internet news again.



Maybe this doesnt make sense if you're not drinking Ryncol at the moment, but heck, what do you think?



TLDR: Ryncol makes EA look even more evil than usual.
