Pretty good thoughts, but I kind of doubt 2 of our 7 companion slots would be filled up by family members. I could see the possibility of the whole family in that cutscene if it's early game and they are temporary squadmates. With maybe the intelligence gathered at this Remnant site warranting dividing the family to pursue various leads across the Helios Cluster...if the information is vital to the initiative succeeding.

I just pray the father/sibling are not reduced to a cheap plot device for dramatic purposes. Maybe one getting kidnapped would be okay providing you can actually lead a successful rescue. Actually given the N7 is dad I could total see that one cutscene where his Krogan pal has the human dangling by one leg over a cliff being about rescuing a family member. As a parent there's no such thing as too ruthless when it comes to protecting your child.

About the synthesis idea, there is actually roots in the Vault that pulse with green veins like the Remnants and some of the tech around. Check at 1:14 to 1:25 or even at the "heart of the Vault" on the right side when the character enter the place.

I'm with the others in thinking that the two squad members are not family members. You pointed out that the female squad mate was in another trailer but in that same trailer you had a 2nd female leading the charge that is most likely the sisterRyder.

So, does "pre-alpha" footage at this time (Sep 16) give us confidence that all is well for Mar 17 launch?

I agree with Helios. I doubt 2 out of 7 squadmates will be family members. My guess is the human female is the vanguard Cora I remember being mentioned somewhere. Maybe it was from one of your other analysis videos BioFan!! The asari perhaps goes by a different name... maybe? Perhaps the head of the Ark Initiative is DadRyder and we take orders from him? Of course this is all fun speculation!

Great video, i agree this scene is probably from very early in the game. If not the prologue.

I think that we are seeing two different parts of that cutscene. We're seeing the very beginning and the very end. We have no idea about what happens in the middle.

But seriously - why would they call plants "remnants" - it's an overall lifeless planet except in that vault?

The genus (Riccia here to indicate it is a liverwort) is followed by a unique species name. That second part is usually "latinified" terms based off someone name, a places or a distinguished part of the plant (color, form, etc) and sometimes it basically sound random. In this case they went with "remnantis", most probably because they find it near remnants*. When speaking daily we rarely use taxonomy classification. At least, I never see people saying they have a canis lupus familiaris (that's a dog).

It is mentioned in the conversation and text of the analyse that this plant is also on the surface of Eos.

*They probably found abandoned technology on Eos and called that remnants, which is just another way of saying remains.

as the others said (and what i've said before) i'm hoping the family isn't part of our squad.
i don't want a forced attachment to any characters, and it's gonna be hard to make sure the player is as invested in the family as Ryder would be without just being "you have to care for these characters because family."
