What's annoying about the dad matching you is Sara gets shafted. No matter which Sara you choose, dad will always look like the Scott that is the same preset number as your Sara. If you choose a Scott that is a preset that's not the same number as Sara's, Alec will not change because Sara is the PC. This results in twins and a dad that look completely unrelated. Yup, had preset 9 dad and nothing like my twins - I headcanoned that very recessive genes kicked in, so no problem. But the cc is truly a frustrating experience and I'm holding off for another playthrough until CC is updated. Also, modders may be our greatest friends here, they have already worked on this and will get a few things fine tune, eventually Yet if your PC is Scott, he will at least look like Alec but younger. Sara doesn't even look like her brother half the time!

Note that CCs with a wider variety of options (including the ones from MET) aren't so photorealistic as what MEA provided. The skin textures in MEA look very realistic - and the devs apparently prioritized that over providing more detailed customization options.
I guess they learned what the audience prefers, though, and probably won't do that again.

Using facescans of real people seems to have been a deliberate design choice in order to have realistic looking characters, with realistic looking features and flaws (imperfect skin textures, etc). This can be a good thing sometimes, combating uncanny valley. Default Scott is very perfect, but almost too perfect, and does set off my uncanny valley alarms at times, like male Shepard did. Characters can sometimes look more lifelike if they are slightly flawed and I think that's what they were going for. I like the idea... on paper. But in practice, ufortunately this choice really limited customization in too many ways.

If you have the lighting up on high or ultra, the skin tones look more smooth, and less flawed like the default Scott.
Also Addison is preset 2 tweaked and Suvi is preset 9 tweaked in ways we can't.

The quality of the skin textures doesn't have anything to do with customization options.
