This -
They should be sort of embarrassed, almost 4 year old game here!
If they wanted to really provide options, this should be (imho) the textbook for doing it.

Well, Saint Row 3 needed something going for it because the rest of the game sure wasn't. Bleh.

Yeah there are lots of good CC's out there to take note of. The Sims 4 one is really good in the options and variety it gives you to create just about anything, plus it is super intuitive to use. No sliders, you can actually mold the face and body with the mouse. It feels very natural to create a character in that game and you can make some great looking sims. We could spend all day listing CC's better than MEA's. They didn't really put much effort at all into it.

It's not just to rag on BW for the billionth time, but I honestly didn't know that the CC's in these other games were this involved and complex. Considering that BW is focused on character driven RPG's had obviously have had the talent to make this kind of thing, my curiosity is why this wasn't done?
Who made the decision to nerf the CC in Andromeda to have 5 minutes of the father in a glorified cameo? Who came up with this and thought it would actually fly with the gamers?

You have to take in mind though in these other games the PC says a lot less (if anything at all, Black Desert is an MMO) and have to feature in a lot less cutscenes doing a lot less cinematic stuff.

That black desert one . . . I can only fantasize about how awesome that would be in MEA . . .le sigh. Oh yes. Except completely unrealistic for now. BD is an MMO, so cutscenes are rare and your PC barely does anything it. The model only really has to function in the game. In Mass Effect it needs to work in dozens and dozens of cutscenes.

DA:I had a pretty good creator, although the hair options were beyond atrocious.
Having said that I never liked the CC in any of the ME games. My characters always came out looking like the iconic Shepard or just down right fugly. Eventually I just stopped using the CC.

I don't think 'quality facial animations' is the excuse BW would really want to go with as a reason why they limited their CC. Just sayin'...

I agree, what BioWare should do to fix all the problems is to go the route of the Mako and remove the character creator completely since people seem to have a fixation on pointing out ones that are better.

Yeah, really funny, except it's not just facial animations. Body height, width, arm length and weight all come into play, which is why you can never change those. And also why some romance options in DA are bound to species and why adding dwarves (and to a lesser extent Qunari) as PC was very difficult, because this messes with the cutscenes in many ways.

In a sense they already have. MEA is more a selection of presets than a real Character Creator anyway.

Yes, currently the only upside to it now is that after 1.06, default Sara makes some horrendous faces in her romance scenes, but cc Sara is still okay.

The sins of sins is not allowing to shape the eyes, change their size.
I freely admit there's not a lot of appealing presets in that game. That's OK, presets were never appealing in any of their games, but you could change them into something appealing. With they eyes that turns out to be a problem, since you are stuck with oversized for your character.

Even if they don't fix anything else, I hope they at least fix the beards (or lack thereof) in ME:A's CC. I wanted a little stubble on my character, but there aren't really any options for that...so I tried out the "full beard," and... the sideburn parts don't match any of the hair styles, except for one (barely) or bald. But with any other hair, it's like the beard texture doesn't match the sides of the hair; it's too far forward, like your character hasn't actually grown a beard, but has instead glued a fake one on. It's just very odd looking and I'm assuming it's a mistake. The only reason my male Ryder's hair works with the beard is because that particular hairstyle's sides angle a little forward, covering up the weird too-far-forward beard sides.

They literally could have just copied DAI CC but added more hair options and it would be light years ahead of what we have. But they decided to go backwards for some reason.

I'm all but certain that the limitations are the result of the family mechanic, since it shares a similar problem that DA2 had. I don't really see a connection between the family mechanic and how the CC so drastically limits the customization options to the point of being superficial. The limitations are a result of BW's choices, not the family mechanic. It is pretty easy to make a Scott/Sara/Alec combination that all look to be a completely different ethnicity more or less all completely unrelated. I can use preset 9 for a latino Sara, preset 1 for an Asian Scott, and end up with James Earl Jones as the daddy.

What's annoying about the dad matching you is Sara gets shafted. No matter which Sara you choose, dad will always look like the Scott that is the same preset number as your Sara. If you choose a Scott preset that's not the same number as Sara's, Alec will not change because Sara is the PC. This results in the twins and a dad that look completely unrelated.

Yup, had preset 9 dad and nothing like my twins - I headcanoned that very recessive genes kicked in, so no problem. But the cc is truly a frustrating experience and I'm holding off for another playthrough until CC is updated. Also, modders may be our greatest friends here, they have already worked on this and will get a few things fine tune, eventually
