what do you think?
At first I thought he was our must have tour guide who will greatly contribute to the lore if brought along everywhere.
But the more I use him, the more it seems he only provides hard hitting insight on some missions.
Drack, Vetra, and Cora are way more efficient at killing people and blowing sh1t up.
Do you miss out on much by leaving Jaal behind to guard the ship with his BFF Liam?

Jaal does need a buff compared to his counterparts, but his dialogue especially with Drak is great

If you have Jaal with you he can recruit Angara into the resistance on several planets, giving you more help in the final mission.

I don't care about Jaal at all.
You know what, actually I don't like Jaal. I almost never brought him anywhere unless I felt like I had to because it was directly related to the Angara.
All he is good for is basic ass questions about Milky Way culture to which he will 9 times out of 10 respond with something like "Oh my that is strange... DID YOU KNOW I HAVE ELEVEN BROTHER AND SISTER YES INDEED ANGARAN FAMILY SURE ARE BIG"

I like him, but he's got nothing banter-wise on Cora-Vetra or Drack-Peebs. Sorry Jaal.

Not a fan of Jaal or the Angara in general, so initially hated that i had to bring him with me. Once i realised that it was not so i benched him.

Jaal = Javik .
If you didn't take Javik for some missions, Thessia for example, you lost A LOT stuff. If you will not take Jaal for EVERY mission connected to Angara, you lost even more.

On Voeld and Havarl, even if you don't bring him along he will occasionally talk over the radio. And that's more than enough Jaal for me.

To me, it makes perfect sense to take him along on Havarl and Voeld (and the 'endgame' missions too). For Kadara it seems logical to have Drack and\or Vetra.
All in all, I'm happy that we don't have forced companions this time (other than for the companion missions), even planetary pieces of their quests can be progressed without them in the party. Having options is good (yes, I'm looking at you, SWTOR KotFE\KotET).

Do you miss out on much by leaving Jaal behind to guard the ship with his BFF Liam? Only in certain places and only in the way it effects dialog options. Or maybe when attempting to finish certain story lines. Truthfully, I left Jaal on the ship quite a bit and only took him when I first got to Voeld and to Havarl, and, maybe, a couple of times when he was needed to finish non-journaled missions.

I resent having to take a squadmate with me to get more information tbh, it should be more evenly spread so that I can take whoever I like. It would be okay if it was one mission, like Javic on Thessia, but Jaal has unique stuff for entire planets. Having him talk on comms helped, but as the game went on I got more and more annoyed by him and rarely picked him. I know I've lost out on info on Meridian by doing that, so next time I guess I'll have to pretend Ryder is best buds with him and try not to roll my eyes too much as he blathers on about how awesome the angara are. I felt like this only happened with Jaal, for the rest it was purely personal stories that needed them there (which is mandatory anyway). I think I preferred the way DA:I handled it. If I happen to have Cass with me for example, she can use her authority to scare the shit outta someone and make them do what we want. If she's not there I'll find another way, so it's a neat way of bringing the crew into the decisions and making it more of a team effort, but never mandatory.

True, but it's million times less annoying than what had happened to SWTOR. Every single mission from the last expansion had been hard-locked to the specific party members with no choice whatsoever (that, or forced solo). A similar thing can be seen in ME3, where the 'immortal' crew had the talking in plot-related cutscenes (e.g. Vega, EDI, Traynor, Steve). At the very least MEA gives us an option to ignore the 'unwelcome' characters. I wish ignoring them had more consequences, though.

Jaal is Javik to me. I take him everywhere! His comments (especially on Eos) are always interesting, and when I meet other Angara (like on Elaaden) he has extra dialogue that won't activate if he's not in my squad.
Also if you don't take him to Voeld and Havarl, you can talk to him there (he's with the lady Scientist on Havarl and at the Resistance base on Voled) and learn more about the planets, and during his LM on Eos, he will talk over the comm and help you if you take other squadmates like I do.

I almost exclusively used vetra and jaal as my squadmates on the first playthrough so I can definitely see where his influence with angara interactions is valuable.
however, second playthrough I'm only running drack and pb, and plan on being completely unfriendly towards the angara at every possible turn, just to see how things turn out.

I miss the special companion dialogue options. Varric fast talking people was my personal favorite. Obviously there will be missions, like Thessia, or DA:I in the Fade, where some companions have more to say than the others. But that kind of dialogue should be spread out amongst all the companions, not bottled into one like Jaal or Javik.

As for the option to kick Jaal out I'll say what I always say about BioWare games. Don't give me 'best mates or tell him to leave'. That's no fun and ignores the fact that the world is usually ending, so they should stay for the bigger picture.
Let me instead hate them and have rivalry dialogue like DA2 with some good old fashioned barneys.
