Yeah, given the importance of the Pathfinder you'd think that would be reflected on his team.
I suspect they made the orignal team so incompetent just as to have an excuse as to why the don't appear beyond the prologue and having to explain why Ryder doesn't take these guys on his team instead.

Because theres no fun in showing up and beating bad guys.
You need a magic device like a glowy mark from a magic orb. Or an AI that tells you what to do, what to think and what to feel. Drills you, diets you, treats you like cattle. You should be machine men with machine minds and machine hearts.
Soldiers, don't give yourselves to Andromeda.
Your are not machines, you are men!
You have the love of humanity in your hearts.
In the 17th chapter of St Niftu it is written, that the kingdom of god is within Shepard.
Not one Shepard nor a group a Shepards but in THE Shepard.
You, the soldiers have ability to make this life free and beautiful to free us from the Reapers and make this life a wonderful adventure.
Then in the name the Normandy let us fight for a newer world. A world that will give Krogan a chance to breed and Batarians the promise of a cast system.
That gives Humans a chance to work and Asari the chance steal our husbands.
Soldiers!
In the name the name of the Normandy let us all unite!

because their space magic geth telescope told them there live only gummibears in andromeda I don't see what the joke is. I'd jump there right now if that were true. Because it was not meant as a joke. If you go into the unknown, you go prepared. This is like so many other things with MEAs story, for whatever reason, they make us believe everyone around is just plain stupid. Someone said it already here in this thread, after humanity made their first contanct with another species it resulted in a full scale war, thanks to the council the Turians did not wipe the galaxy floor with humanity. The reasons are always the same: Better to have a gun and not need one, then to need a gun and not have one. They got a ton of handguns, but do they realy believe that is enough? Maybe their geth telescope showed no signs of civilization, but is this realy a reason to go unprepared? A lot of things can change in 600 years... look at us, what we got since 1417, look at what ME humans got since 1685. This is not about some "space magic" (we get that like all the time as plot device, project lazarus *cough*cough*), but that is not the problem, the problem is what we get afterwards: pure, unchecked stupidity.

Alec said they were chosen because they were the best at their jobs and because they were dreamers. Also, there are soldiers in cryo, you can wake them up at the beginning. Also, there was an ark of Turians who were supposed to arrive at the same time. They had Krogans on the Nexus. We know that Krogans are a one man army.

Well, this is from the series that decided that a single frigate armed with a bunch of random b@dasses should charge the Omega IV relay knowing their stealth system is ineffective and without a clue how many ships, traps, or other defenses might be on the other side. For that matter, their space magic telescopes should have showed signs of the Remnant, at least.

The scanner tells us the remanant tech we find is 300-400 years old. None of that was there when we left the Milky Way. Other than that yeah I agree. Most of the galaxy throughout the MET were idiots, I mean look at the Council. Idiots (at least in ME2 and 3).

I was under the impression the Scourge came after the Remnant. In any case, even if the scans didn't show anything it was stupid to come without a properly trained and armed security/military force and at least putting a few guns and defensive measures on your ark ships and the Nexus. It is just naive to the point of stupidity to think everything would just "work itself out".

I was under the impression that the Scourge was ultimately what drove the Remnant out, that it was a weapon used against them. Agreed

In the small excerpt from the comic with Tiran Kandros it was said the Turian Hierarchy was worried the Andromeda Initiative might be a covered attempt to build a private army. That's why they sent Kandros to investigate in the first place. So it makes sense the AI tried to keep a low profile and didn't build armed warships or trained their own troops. It would have provoked the Turians, or any other council race, to shut the program down. I am surprised Alec got away with SAM, that alone could have been bad enough.

Yeah, at the beginning of the game it shows all Arks parked right next to Earth, that would be perfect time for an Alliance patrol to conduct and inspection and check the arks' crew manifests, who knows there might be suspects aboard trying to escape from justice. The risk of human/alien trafficking is alone is enough to warrant a thorough inspection of every arks' live cargo by the authorities.
