So, CDPR has a major security issue in their game. And blames... modders and you for it. Discuss...

CDPR likes to blame everyone else but themselves for the problems they make with Cyberpunk it seems. I am surprised there hasn't been a fix for this yet since it is a severe breach and if they really want to show Sony they deserve to be back on the PlayStation store not fixing an exploit like this doesn't help the cause.

It's looking like my one playthrough of the game was good enough. Game probably won't be fully up to snuff till sometime next year. I'm pretty happy that I didn't preorder or buy the game, because even though I enjoyed my time overall, I primarily by my games now off of replayability and I don't get that itch from Cyberpunk. That being said, this was my first CDPR game that I actually finished thoroughly... so that's a plus. Too bad its associated with their worst released title. Hopefully, the game continues to improve for you guys that are more dedicated than I, even if it is slow. Curious to see what addition they make apart from any cosmetic niceties they add in the freebie DLC. Fair to say though after that and its various stability fixes, it’ll be all next-gen and PC from that point forward for any expansions. I just don’t see anything truly major coming out on base/last-gen consoles.

That’s not really the impression I got from their original tweet, unless they’ve expanded on this idea elsewhere and I just missed it. Seems like they’re saying that the security issue is within the game itself regardless.

Is this something that could even affect consoles? Maybe, but the way I have been reading its a problem with a DLL file built into the game and since consoles are so much like PCs now my guess is the exploit could be used on consoles. One of the ways that has been known to break past console security in the past is to have a game that has an exploit that if you try and load a corrupted save file it would allow you to put your own software onto the consoles. That is my guess of what might happen, its just much easier to load a player made mod into a PC version.

Cyberpunk 2077 @cyberpunkgameHotfix 1.12 is now available on PC! This update addresses the vulnerability that could be used as part of remote code execution (including save files): - Fixed a buffer overrun issue. - Removed/replaced non-ASLR DLLs.

Finished the game, saw three of the endings ( see spoiler thread). Well, it was a bit of a weird experience because the good is REALLY good and the bad is pretty bad. The good: - Presentation! This is where Cyberpunk really outshines everything else that is on the marked. The dialogues are so intense and feel so real, more so as I have ever seen in a game. The mo-cap, voice acting, subtle player guidance, etc., all of it is just an absolute blast. Seriously, it's dam good. - Story and characters: There are a lot of fantastic stories in the game. Not just in the main questline but also in most of the larger side quests. Almost all of them had me sit there and marvel at how cleverly they used the setting to tell some really cool, interesting and unique stories, which you wouldn't be able to tell in any other context. Good stuff all around! - Technology: I know, it's very different for console players but on my (fairly fast but not absolute top notch) PC the game ran really well. Even with ray tracing and everything, it had fairly high frame rates (especially given everything that needed to get rendered, crowd sizes, very busy scenes and everything). Load times were very fast and I didn't have a single crash. - Graphics and the visual design of the city: Just gorgeous, especially for such a big open world game. Nuff said. The bad: - Side content: Way too much and way too shallow. Nobody and I mean nobody in their right mind appreciates 400 NCPD markers that all just boil down to "kill 5-10 enemies and read a notepad". Even the other gigs where you get phone calls from the fixers are all pretty much the same and get old really quick. This is what we criticize Ubisoft for for over a decade now, why would anyone copy them in that regard?!? - The simulation: While the city is designed well visually, the illusion breaks as soon as you try anything that is not quest related. There is basically no simulation of the city at all. NPCs have exactly one reaction and that is fear. The police is completely useless. Physics works badly if at all. Please CDPR devs, play GTA V, copy it and put that into Cyberpunk 2, thank you very much. - Bugs: While the general tech of the game worked very well on my system (see above), there were a few bugs in the gameplay, which really annoyed me. Be it subtitles that get stuck on screen (even though I deactivated subtitles in the first place), items that you can't pick up, T-posing characters, physics issues or what have you. They really still need to patch quite a bit there. - Game design issues: In general, the game design works but not 100%. For example, as a hacker, I was very OP very quickly. Once you have some legendary equipment and quickhacks, no one will be able to stop you, ever. The worst gameplay issue however is how armor works. Why are there random clothes that have stats that don't fit them at all? Why does my male V have to wear a bra and pink hotpants, just because they have the best stats? Especially, given how much fuss they made about "your style" in this game before release? Please just give us transmogrification in a patch. I do want to look cool as a cyberpunk merc, please. - Menus: The UI in this game is plain crap, all of them. Be it the compartmentalized inventory, the never ending list that is the database, the "Shards" menu that has three different "other" categories and one that just doesn't have a name at all, the cyberware overview, where you can not see what else you actually have unless you visit a ripper doc (and there you can't access your mods). Why can't I disassemble items while in a shop menu, even though it's the same menue? Even the game options are shit. Why can't O remap all my keys (double tapping alt to holster is crap, half the time the game doesn't recognize my second tap and just switches weapons). Lot's of room for improvement there. - Subtitles: One very minor point, which still annoys me: There are scenes in this game, entirely in other languages (like Japanese), which is very cool but despite the fact that V is apparently supposed to understand what is said (maybe due to his/her cyberware), there are no automatic subtitles here. You need to manually turn subtitles on in the main menu, to see them (and then turn them off again, if you don't want them for normal dialogues in English). This is despite the fact that the foreign language subtitles are already tagged by the game anyway because there is a very cool visual effect for them, where Japanese writing sort of morphs into English. So if they got that, why don't they have an option to automatically display subs just for foreign language dialogues? I know, it's a minor thing but these easy-to-fix fails always annoy me. There is a also a bunch of things that are just so-so. - Most notably here is the general combat gameplay. It works well enough, both when sneaking or when just shooting but it's certainly not spectacular. hacking is OP, as I mentioned above. But it works well enough, it's just nothing spectacular. - The other thing that works but isn't great is the world building. It's cool and a lot of thought went into it for sure but it doesn't get to Deus Ex levels of awesome. The main problem I have with it - and I know this is absolutely intended - is that it's this "super cool" 80s retro-future with blaring colors, lot's of foul language everywhere and a general sense that everything is a bit over the top. People don't really act rationally anymore, almost like they put a little speed into the drinking water. This makes it less believable for me and that's what Deus Ex did much better (especially the Adam Jensen ones). It's cool and it's fun and it's perfectly fine for what it wants to be but it's not quite my thing in the end. All in all, it is a great game, just play it for the big quests and the stories. That's where it really shines. In the end, I did play 150 hours and I had a lot of fun with it. So I'll still give it 9/10 Bioshards. I really hope CDPR will stick with the franchise, despite all the criticism they got now. With the right improvements, a Cyberpunk 2 could be absolutely spectacular.

Not certain if this is true. Sadly I am of the same belief. I believe that CDPR is making the claim they were hacked, but they have lied publicly so many times over the last year I am not quick to believe anything that comes from the company either. We will know soon enough if there is a massive leak of CDPR internal information.

I just don’t see anyone there seeing a benefit in faking this themselves. I’m more of the mindset that the ransom note is a bluff/prank than a legit threat.

I have no idea what's there to gain from a fake. Best outcome for CDPR is they ignore the blackmail attempt and nothing happens. Then they have gained... what exactly? Certainly not sympathy, at least not from the (irrelevant as it is as an indicator of public opinion) friendly crowd on Twitter.

Most comments I see around this are rooting for the hackers, which isn’t surprising since a lot of commenters have been hoping that CDPR simply goes under. The gaming community is comprised largely of people that have absolutely no chill, so this sort of thing is not surprising. Anyone who believes that a tactic like this would garner sympathy truly does not understand the community at all.

Jason Schreier @jasonschreier I've seen speculation that CDPR is faking this (?) but employees tell me they're taking it very seriously. The company told staff they'll need to take several specific precautions to protect their identities and prevent fraud. It's going to be a real hassle for many of them.

They do like digging themselves a bigger hole. True, lol. Makes me wonder wtf happened to the same company that made the Witcher games, only to produce Cyberpunk's buggyness. I guess this should make one optimistic about the outlook for Cyberpunk, because The Witcher 3 was a buggy mess too, and was heavily criticized for being a downgraded version of what they showed off prior to release. It received numerous patches over time, and with the subsequent DLC’s, all of that mess is barely even a fading memory.

The gameplay of CP is a lot better than Mercs 2, which I’d liken more to a mix between GTA and Fortnite combat. I wouldn’t say that combat was ever truly CDPR’s strongsuit though. I actually kind of hate TW3’s combat. At least in Cyberpunk, the guns feel good and beheading people is satisfying.

I am not sure if they can make a Witcher 3 recovery with Cyberpunk for the problems I have are vastly deeper then just the bugs in the game. With The Witcher 3 the game had a long tail where new people kept trying the game to see what all the hype was about, but with Cyberpunk it was more like a BioWare release where they have massive Day 1 sales and then it falls off. If I recall correctly the majority of bugs in The Witcher 3 took only a couple of months to fix, but with Cyberpunk there still seems to be a great amount to fix still. Then they have the daunting task of bringing people back to Cyberpunk versus with The Witcher 3 they were attracting new people to the game. I am not saying its an impossible task, but the saying of "you only get one first impression" is true as well.
