I'm hoping they go with the Benefactor not being an individual person but instead is a group of people of various races. Sort of like the Illuminati in the Deus Ex franchise. Bioware has never really done a villain like that and I would love to see them do so.

...Commander Shepard. tl;dr ME2-3 aren't real and Shepard fights Ryder on the quarian ark.

I knew it. Shep is a live and well but still in cryo, and that is why they are keeping the identity of the benefactor a secret. This is a great day and a even better find. Shep returns in ME5. Now I'm interested.

Since we're speculating, as I've said elsewhere I think TIM would send his son, The Elusive Man, as a stowaway son of the Benefactor on the incoming Arks. Since TIM was voice-acted by Martin Sheen, it only stands to reason that TEM would then be voiced by Charlie Sheen. NFSW and Trigger Warning: He'd end up having a bachelor pad with Jaal as they commenced helping to re-populate Andromeda.

One small problem...
The AI started when Shepard was 22 and a rookie. He would not have had that kind of money. Even after ME1 he wouldn't have that kind of money. The AI coincided with a Cerberus instigated political shakeup. It's most likely Cerberus as it has to be in relation to the Reapers and not many humans knew about them at that time.
2157 CE Jack Harper (a.k.a TIM) encounters Reaper relic and gets his nifty blue eyes. Later founds Cerberus in part to counter the Reapers.
2175 CE Cerberus covertly contacts Michael Moser Lang, a political dissident on Earth, and provides him with funding to purchase weapons. Cerberus continues to monitor him after contact ends. One year later, Lang assassinates United North American States president Enrique Aguilar and Chinese People's Federation premier Ying Xiong. The resulting political shuffle benefits Cerberus' shell companies and plans for the Systems Alliance Parliament.
2176 CE The Andromeda Initiative, a privately-funded multi-species endeavor created to explore and colonize the Andromeda Galaxy, is founded.
What other options is there? Leviathans? Are there Leviathans in Andromeda? Did they control enough powerful people to fund the initiative to send more slaves over? Is Andromeda filled with "extinct" Milky Way races? That's a YUGE stretch though. Although, kind of interesting...

But if it is Tim, he can show up. pls no I didn't say it was a good plan. I just said he could, because Citadel DLC did that whole evil clone thing, and now no matter what, that is always a possibility. Anyone can return. IF they made illusive man a younger version than when ME2 started, a better version than the ME3 one I might not mind it so much. Martin Sheen was amazing for that role and in ME2 until the end he was kind of one of the more interesting villains. Saren was fascinating. But with tim, you had no idea where he stood. Yeah, definitely he was looking for power. But was there true goodness in his intentions? At least initially? When he brings Shepard back? Someone like that who walks that line where you are never really sure if the are purely self motivated or if they have good intentions or when they have a balance of the two is usually a very compelling character, more so in a villain. He was actually an antagonist within ME2 while also being your psuedo ally. At the time, many people hated being stuck with him. I know I felt like my Shepards never really got to say most of what was on their mind. Most especially at Horizon. But I still have to admit that Illusive Man for most of that game was spot on awesome. I remember seeing some debates over his character that reminded me of the good old days with Loghain from DAO. Ah... memories.... I'm feeling nostalgic now.

What a ridiculous theory.
It´s common knowledge that the Space Hamster is the mysterious benefactor.

The thing with Cerberus is that the Andromeda initiative would have bankrupted the Human enconomy a few time over, Cerberus' front companies would have no where near the finiancial power to support such a venture on their own.
Likewise too many suspicions transaction on the part of Cerberus' shells would cause attraction by the Alliance's finanical authorities. Unless Bioware wants us too believe Cerberus has been commiting massive finanical fraud for decades that has gone unnoticed by the authorities, hence Cerberus was able to finanance and army and dozens of super secret science projects, but that's a writing problem of the orignal trilogy.

The benefactor is Lexi. It sounded like Lexi. Addison is too much of an idiot to be the benefactor.

If it was only humans heading to a new galaxy then I could see TIM and Cerberus helping out but since every race got an invite I just don't see him using the vast resources it would take to build the arks and nexus plus all of the other stuff needed for such a trip. Besides TIM didn't fear the reapers so there wouldn't be any reason to run from them from his POV. My money is on the Geth.
