On my new game plus playthrough, and I initially had planned to go with the vanguard / asari sword melee biotic build. After reaching eos and doing a fair bit of combat, however, I'm not really enjoying it. Melee combat feels very clunky to me. I'm still wanting to go with some kind of biotic focused build (my first game was as a tech character), so I'm trying to find something new to spec into.
The character is at level 52, but has very little researched stuff for biotics - on my first playthrough I mostly went heavy into remtech and angaran armor for the tech bonuses, so I'm left with only lower level stuff on this one until I can come up with more research points.
One of the things that bugs me, aesthetically, is that the biotic profiles all have that biotic evade instead of using jump jets, which I find to be much more aesthetically interesting. I've been considering going with the sentinel profile instead of adept or vanguard, but how much biotic aptitude am I really going to lose doing that? Especially since I plan on using only biotic abilities, rather than any tech skills (it'd just be tech passives and extra skill points to get sentinel leveled up). If it really comes down to it and adept is much better for a biotic character, I'll just tough it out and deal with the weird biotic evade visuals I guess. Had a similar issue with the cloak evades on my infiltrator and just dealt with it.
I want a build that incorporates pull and throw, at least. Throughout the first mission on habitat 7 I had a hell of a lot of fun lobbing kett over cliffs and off bridges with those two skills. Unfortunately, a lot of enemies have armor or shields, which seems to completely negate those biotic effects. How do you get around that?
The third skill I'm having trouble with. I really like backlash for it's visuals and the whole biotic shield thing, but it doesnt seem like an overly useful ability outside of looking awesome. I'm not a fan of shockwave, singularity has a really long cooldown, and annihilation, while fun, is short range only and as a biotic fighter I figure I'll be using cover and gunplay a little more than melee now. Lance seems like an ok option for detonating or precision damage on remnant architects, but has a pretty weak visual. Feels like playing biotic softball or something. Charge doesnt really fit in with a ranged biotic build, either.
As far as weapons go, I wanted to use SMGs primarily but dont really have anything researched. I dumped my extra heleus research points into the heleus champion armor and helmet already. I do have up to rank 5 on the equalizer SMG from remtech, but it seems to have an exceptionally short range. I have no idea which milky way SMGs are good, as I havent used them in any playthroughs yet. My tech character started with the remtech beam assault rifle and sniper rifle and ended up eventually researching the X5 ghost, which I really like.
Could really use any insight from adept/sentinel players, I'm at a point where I'm already getting burned out just trying to make this second playthrough enjoyable.

I actually preferred the biotic movement over jump jets, so cant help you there. Also like singularity, even if it doesnt float bad guys, it can damage shields if you put points into it. For armored foes, i used a hurricane with seeking plasma and incendiary rounds. I could fire a whole clip from behind cover and it chews away armor pretty fast.

If you are not a fan of the biotic evades visual effect, both the Sentinel and the Soldier profiles are good alternatives. Sentinel is good due to its damage reduction and combo damage. Soldier is good since you will be using weapons with biotics anyways, but requires heavy investment into the Combat tree which detracts from the Biotics tree. For your purposes, I recommend experimenting with these two.
If you are going for a pure biotic build, Singularity would probably be your best bet as a 3rd power against shielded and armored enemies. Cast Singularity on those enemies, and detonate with your Throw ability to cause a Biotic Combo that deals heavy damage. Since Singularity will have a longer cooldown, you can then use your Pull+Throw combo on enemies until Singularity is done recharging.
For armor, N7 armor works best for your build due to the biotic bonuses. Also, if you have it, equipping the Fusion Mod of Rapid Deployment or Biotic Mastery on your chest armor works well too.

I haven't used it much, but find it kinda fun to make enemies commit suicide. It's especially fun with remnant observers - hold backlash when an observer is firing its beam at you, and you can reflect it back on itself and watch it kill itself. I've also made nullifiers self-destruct that way.

lynx7386 , I can't help with the biotic jump, since that's just part of the deal with Adept, and you definitely want to use the Adept Profile. With a build, though, I can help. I have played Adepts and Sentinels through 4 PTs. First, don't let Singularity's long cooldown put you off. It becomes incredibly short with the proper evolutions (cooldown reduction, of course), gear and skill points invested in the Biotics tree. Also, you can essentially eliminate cooldowns via the Fusion Mod of Adrenaline. Singularity is generally the centerpiece of any non-Vanguard biotic build. It primes everything within its radius for its entire duration. It is the Adept's main weapon against armored foes, because of this. Pull is great because it can chew away at shields, with the right evolution. It also lifts unprotected targets, turning them into floating bombs (assuming you have a detonator). You can combine it with Throw to hurl enemies, explosive canisters, etc... at enemies, it that's your thing. For a detonator, you can choose Throw or Lance. Lance does more damage on its own, but requires more skill to aim. It can also be evolved to use your barrier (shields) for energy, instead of operating with a cooldown. You'll need to be somewhat skilled to stay alive, though, if you're playing on Insanity or Hardcore. Spamming Lance will keep your shields depleted, unless you take precautions. Throw is less damaging on its own, but can be paired with Pull to turn enemies into weapons. It has a very short cooldown. It's great to have as a panic button, to hault the advance of a charging enemy, or to toss someone away from you in a hurry. Backlash does look cool, but it's not all that useful for an Adept. It's useless on Insanity, since it melts too quickly to protect from heavy fire. Even on Normal, it just becomes boring. I know from experience. Dropping Backlash in favor of Pull was the best decision I made for my first Adept PT. I traded a marginal, unnecessary defensive power for a primer with crowd-control and shield-stripping capability. The best SMG, in my opinion, is the M-25 Hornet. Some like the Hurricane, but it's not that accurate in an Adept's hands. The Hornet, though, was effectively the best assault rifle in the game, before the Ghost was added. The Ghost is another good Adept weapon, if you think you'd like to keep using it. (Just don't use any augments you can't afford to lose. It cannot be deconstructed, at present.) Pull or Singularity, fire some shots into them, then Throw. With the Fusion Mod of Adrenaline, the subsequent enemy deaths will reset your cooldowns. Even without that Mod, your cooldown will be short with most of your skill points invested in a Biotics. By Level 50, you should have 6 Biotics skills maxed (Pull, Throw, Singularity, and the three passives). You should also have The Combat tree passives, as well as Team Support from the Tech tree. You can carry your Ghost or Hornet as your primary weapon, a Piranha (or something else until you get one) as your backup armor-killer, and whatever you wish as your third weapon. Weapon weight shouldn't be an issue at this high a level. You'll not need your weapons as much as other builds, regardless. I guess I should address why Sentinel doesn't work well for Biotic builds. It's perks simply don't help you. It's great for a tech caster, due to Tech Recharge and Combo damage, but it offers no cooldown reduction for a Biotic. Adept, on the other hand, offers everything you could possibly want in one package. Choosing anything else is simply gimping your Biotic. Heleus Defender armor is solid. It's not the most optimal choice, but it works just fine. I used it pretty extensively, because I hate the N7 Armor. I've now built my "one armor for every occasion" out of the Pathfinder Armor. I've loaded it with Combo Damage enhancement that will benefit any build that I might play. Whatever you craft, don't forget the Shield Oscillator in the chest piece. This has likely been pretty rambling, since I'm very sleepy. Maybe I'll clean it up before you see it. If not, I hope it helps.

Using Pull with Throw is so much fun, especially if you upgrade both to hit two targets at the same time. Launch your enemies and watch them fly! I also keep using pull/throw to throw explosive canisters at enemies.

Well after some practice I've reverted to a vanguard melee style of play. I'm doing better with it now, nova really helps and I wasn't using that before. Also added tactical cloak which makes the melee style interesting.
Think ill try the singularity plus chain overload combo for my ranged profile.
