Having augments be exclusive to weapons and armour you craft yourself makes found loot really kind of useless except for the minerals and/or resale value. And it also makes playing without using crafting really unattractive because you don't get access to an important mechanic. And just getting a bunch of exact duplicate guns is really pretty boring.

That's a good point.
You'd have to research it first, but then you could find weapons/armor with the stuff in the world and potentially be able to get those augmentations out by deconstruction. But unlike your own crafted stuff, you'd have say 75 percent chance to actually get the augment.
(Unresearched augmentations would still have the guns keep their effect, but instead show up as "Unknown Augmentation" and be impossible to retrieve)
