This now my 5th playthrough with Kaidan as my Shep's LI and my goodness I love his character so much. He's a functioning adult who sorts his own life and builds his career without needing Shep's help to do it. He is smart, strong, and capable without her.

I think some people confuse "functioning human being who exists outside of Shepard" with "boring".

There's nothing boring about a man who sorts his own life, won't kiss your ass, questions you.

Paraphrased: ME1 romance scene Kaidan, "If I didn't think you're doing the right thing, I wouldn't be here."
Paraphrased: ME2 Kaidan, "You're were rebuilt by, and are now working for terrorists? Yeah, no. Bye."

This is something I really like about him. He did exactly what he said he would do if he thought Shepard was doing the wrong thing. He walked away.

It hurts, but I respect the hell out of him for it.


In general, I think the VS is 100% in the right on Horizon.

yeah, I think regardless of Shepard's ideology, you just need Kaidan to be their foil and be himself doing so

Hi Kaidan's fan. Little question here: Why none of your squad members reacts or made a comment about your relationship with Kaidan.
In ME 1 there is only the Liara love triangle and in ME 2 only Joker made a remark about it and in ME 3 it is only adress in the Citadel DCL or I am missing something?

Plus just kill him during the coup (let one of your team members do it to hear differences) and can hear more from Garrus/Liara/Chakwas/Javik/Jeff/EDI, only already in another "beyond" light.

One thing I've thought a lot about is what it would look like if Kaidan actually had joined in ME2.

First off, he would have already been a Spectre. Shepard would have given the recommendation with the intention of training Kaidan personally, but someone else, maybe Jondum Bau, would have taken over after Shepard was killed. Liara would tell Kaidan about the Lazarus Project and the Collector threat while Shepard was still comatose, then Anderson would do some rather extensive tap dancing to get the Council to send Kaidan to "investigate" Shepard and deal with them if they were discovered to have really turned traitor. If Kaidan were to find that Shepard was facing a real threat, then it would be his duty as a Spectre to deal with it using whatever means were available to him.

As for Powers, Kaidan would have 31 points to spend for the same reason that Miranda does. Throw and Overload would be his standard powers.

His passive power would be Alliance Sentinel. Kaidan would personally receive a bonus to health and weapon damage, while the entire party gets a bonus to health regeneration and power damage. The Alliance Medic upgrade would increase the health regeneration bonus, while the Alliance Bastion would increase the power damage bonus. Naturally, he and Miranda would make a frightening combination.

Kaidan's Loyalty Power would be Distortion, essentially a biotic Energy Drain. Listed damage against both kinds of health. Half damage against shields. Double damage to armor and barriers. Using Distortion on barriers and unprotected organic health would directly boost Kaidan's shields. Heavy Distortion increases damage, Area Distortion creates a three meter AOE. Kaidan would be a monster against Collectors with this power.

Kaidan's lab upgrade would be a twenty percent bonus to recharge speed. The flavor text would describe it as Kaidan synchronizing his amp with his omni-tool to increase their efficiency.

Last but not least is the Loyalty Mission. The obvious route would be something relating to BAaT, but Kaidan has already learned the correct lessons from that; he realized on his own that he shouldn't judge all aliens by Vyrnuss's example, for the most part he's let go of Rahna, and he's no longer holding back for fear of hurting someone else, so there's really nothing left to do with it. The only thing I could think of would essentially be a retread of Jack's Loyalty Mission and Aresh.

I think his loyalty mission would revolve around the incident that exposed him in the first place. Kaidan has always believed that the incident that exposed him was a genuine accident, but Miranda's age calls that into question. Finding out that he had been exposed deliberately would have serious implications for how Kaidan feels about his powers.

As for the Suicide Mission, Kaidan would be a correct choice for the fire teams and the barrier.

If it is the scene where he asks if you and the human soldier are joined, then that is a part of the main campaign. Talk to Javik after all story missions and you should automatically get it. He mentions your pheromones' indicate that you are with him. He does this if you are with anyone on the ship (Tali, Ashley, Liara, Garrus, etc) If you're looking for something else, I have no idea.
