Another Asari Adept thread. Yay~ ...Just wanted to mention few things since this kit went from the single most popular character pre-patch 1.06 to fairly not popular character post-patch 1.06. It might be just that more people are trying new characters thanks to the patch. There are notable differences between old and current version AA. 1. Annihilation field We had nerf on AF radius & power cool down penalty.. but they both are really insignificant. Last evo of Draining field vs Vortex. I much more preferred draining field pre-patch... but 1.06 seems to make Vortex far better choice. Mainly because BE kill throws enemy away too far. Many of them don`t die within your field. For the usefulness of Vortex... I cannot even describe how useful it is here using word. lol 2. Throw vs Lance Lance 0 Cool down feels like an awesome choice... but considering BE combo damage, number of enemies you encounter at a time, easy of use and her survivability.. I think cool down + combo damage maximized throw is still better. Lance is still a great detonator at rank 1 while Throw cools down.
3. Offensive Biotics I know we all used to choose 20% debuff pre-patch. ...but the Combo damage & Radius feel vastly superior now. Debuff doesn`t work on the enemies that are already dead. lol If you use Biotic damage booster & equipment... AF actually alone is good enough to kill most of the things. In such case.. debuff could be deadly. 4. Barrier I think this tree has most significant difference since Patch 1.06. Before patch 1.06, melee Asari Adept was totally viable.. mainly because Melee hit healed 20%, Saving Barrier triggered more often and most importantly Biotic Combo did low damage while barely stagger enemy lightly leaving them widely open for your AF & melee. Since patch 1.06... you can`t melee any health mooks properly. They get to be flown away 20 feet from you by combo and die shortly after by throw damage or shooting. Max shield vs Recharge rate can be arguable... but I think recharge rate can be better because the blind fire using guns are extremely useful now. Max shield is good too. The most notable power that needs the attention is Biotic Link. Every 5 seconds it seems like healing your shield by 40% if you constantly keep enemy off and on of your biotic power. Mix this with Vortex.. and you can laugh through out the game. .....This is so far better than any current way of healing her. Far better than Biotic punch and Annihilation draining. Nerfed Saving Barrier is still a great insurance even now. She is much unpopular now compare to pre-patch 1.06 time. I barely see her in the lobby anymore... but I know in the end at least 75% of people who play this game prefer shooting over using powers. Just wanted to say that... how Asari Adept is amazingly better and more fun since patch 1.06 despite losing her popularity. Biotic damage gear complements her awesomeness even further. Patch 1.05 version was still great but compare to patch 1.06 version old AA is just a boring and dumb kit. :sure: She is both daring and fun. ...She still is not an easiest kit and require very good sense of situational awareness and game play sense. The term higher risk higher return.. fits her perfect. I am gonna use her a lot more now. She feels amazing...but why do all good kits have Health Regeneration Cap as bonus stat? Intended trolling by BW..... :srs: To the stuff I highlighted. Two ways to play her: vortex and throw for BEs or shield powered lance for BEs with no points in throw or skip offensive biotic 6 for 3 ranks of throw. Melee build can still work but why when its now inferior and you are using a biotic goddess? MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT. Shield powered lance is better than throw vortex. I'm not even sure this is even a debatable issue.. Vortex/throw is just a bit easier to play and still does tons of damage. Also, SPL is very difficult to play unless your character is ranked up. So if you will be prestiging her go throw/vortex. But if you are keeping her at 20, take the training wheels off... I just got her back to 20 so I am considering a glass cannon shield powered lance with throw maxed as well. Basically taking everything to 6 but offensive biotics and putting 3 ranks in health. Will run that with a cyclonic and see how it goes, I feel it will be too squishy without biotic link (more so against observers and raiders) and saving barrier but its worth a shot for even more insane DPS.

Shes not the powerhouse CQC kit she used to be. I re-specced her now to biotic explosions once in a while + hide and shoot when shields are down. Viable? yes. Fun? Frankly no. I've moved from Asari Adept to Asari Sentinel. Now that is a fun kit. I throw up in my mouth when I see stuff like this on forums....this character needs a severe nerf. She is insanely strong when played very aggressively. Insanely strong. If you play her timidly you are doing it wrong and will die. run up to stuff and kill it before it kills you. Its that easy. Run up to mooks and hit them with SPL. They die your shields are back, hit other target....use throw occasionally when shields are down and hurricane/dhan. Its unbelievable how strong this character is and how aggressive you can play her...

I truly suck with her using the Shield Powered Lance. I decided to try that version as I'm L2P (only played her for one night so far from Level 1, to level 16), and she went from really good - easy to survive and helpful in Gold at very low-level - to Wave 1 wipes and much fearfusion for me as I repeatedly embarrassed myself trying to figure out how to spam Lance without constantly dying in early waves. Anyone, wanna detail how to play her with shield powered Lance, please feel free as my L2P needs some serious help, or I need to change my build. Admittedly, I got better or I never would have made it from Level 1 to Level 16 in one night, but holy shit she is made from paper with that SP Lance. How u people deal with SP Lance build? Fwiw, I'm one of those that prefers casters to shooters. Draining Field is a must in Annihilation and having good aim helps a LOT. Take Recuperative Barrier for faster regen and Biotic Link for the extra shields. It may have a cool down now, but still helps a lot. Use the Adaptive War Amp and the Combo Detonator upgrage for big Lance hits and combos. You will kill red bars in one combo. Avoid armored targets the best you can. Keep moving (she's one of the fastest characters), use cover, don't get surrounded, etc. Lance may require aim, but it's also almost hitscan with how fast it travels, so it'll hit where your crosshairs are, even across the map (which I use on my Kineticist). With Throw you can use Vortex instead of Draining Field because you'll have a bit of extra survivability. I've actually been playing this because it's pretty fun lifting all the red bars around me into the air and I get to mix in my Dhan/Ushior shots in instead of just spamming lance.

Lance is not hitscan. It just travels so fast that it seems like it. The only times you see that difference is if your target moves sideways from your pov, at enough distance. The increased moving speed since 1.06 was also a great improvement.

The increased moving speed since 1.06 was also a great improvement. Well, it basically seems like it. You can hit a target across the map floating in the air instantaneously. I know it's actually a projectile (you see it flying in the preview clip), but as long as your crosshairs are on the target, you're going to hit 99.9% of the time.

Generally I still top score because I can play more aggressively without dying. If you try that play style with shield powered lance generally you end up dead. No doubt lance allows you to generate more BEs and thus maximize output as long as your shields don't break. I've just yet to see too many people that could use that play style and be completely aggressive a whole game. That's not even taking into account that vortex is extremely valuable on four point objectives.

That's not even taking into account that vortex is extremely valuable on four point objectives. Vortex is not playing her wrong. Vortex/throw is a great and easy build and play style. Will top pug lobbies. Shield powered lance is better though and can be played even more aggressively. Sure, your throw cool down is super fast but SPL is 0. If you are dying too much with this build you just need practice. It is a harder build to play but it is superior if you can play it well. I missed lances in the beginning and paid the price. Still miss but you get better the more you play it. I know several people that can (two guys I run with on a daily basis --bigmike and mercanti on psn...with myself included) run this build very very well. Your random pug barely plays the throw/vortex build well....I see them camping and sniping instead of moving about and obliterating stuff. Sounds pretty much like you agree though. Shield powered lance is better but requires more skill to work. That you can generate more BEs means you can kill more stuff and restore your shields fast...

She's the best kit for shield-powered lance and elemental ammo-based explosions. I play her with the Hurricane and Ghost. I really recommend toying around with the Duelist. She's a lot of fun when it comes to high risk high return play.

The AA might be the strongest overall character in the game that can smash through any faction with ease...

killabkilledb: did you play ME3MP? This is a real question. I ask, because I know Nuke played it, a lot. He was pretty skilled at it, actually. Never played together, but I have seen and heard enough on the etherwebz to form a position of skilled. I never heard of killabkilledb until this new forum. Could be you changed names, could be you are an old CoD player... I really have no clue. This - when you intimate that a known player has a significantly lower skill set than your own, because SPL derp - is confusing without some context. If you were just a little more aesthetic, Vegasflash would have words with you.

To the stuff I highlighted. Lance build isn't superior if you're dead. And honestly I've seen plenty talk shit about how vortex is playing her wrong and honestly I've yet to see anyone just do fantastically better than me playing her with shield powered lance. That sounds very familiar to me. To be effective, the AA needs to engage CQC, which means she's often under fire. With that build, I found that I had to spend quite a bit of time in cover, waiting for shields to regen - and even then, I sometimes didn't have lance when I needed it most, because her shields were gone. I changed to a vortex/throw build, and am doing much better with her now.

It's true, you NEED to be aggressive w/ shield powered Lance, as her offense is literally her defense.
It takes some getting used to learning when to throw 'em and when to hold 'em and reposition (and I'm still a scrub, so please don't take this as me pretending to be some kind of AA pro.. I am definitely not), but it's a lot of fun to play if you enjoy risk vs reward characters.
You can't just run in and spam lance until your shields are gone. You toss one, maybe two, and let your AF regen your shields when they die. Your shields are your main resource and you need to manage it very carefully while staying on the move. I think of it like a gun that only has 3 bullets, but you get 1 bullet back whenever you kill something.
If you get backed into a corner or don't feel safe spending your shield resource, use Throw instead and get back into the action. You really do need to be comfortable w/ weaving in and out of melee range of serious threats.
Not saying that SPL build is better than Throw (though I personally do much better w/ SPL), but it seems like a lot of people who dislike SPL are afraid of getting caught w/ their pants down or have bad aim (I can relate to the latter, lol).
PS) Duelist is like.. not all that risky unless you overextend, which is more a problem w/ not paying attention to your surroundings than her being squishy. She has iframes pouring out of every orifice and a shield that kills people when she needs to reposition. When you can go toe to toe w/ Berserkers w/out taking damage at all, I wouldn't really call that super risky.

I think of it like a gun that only has 3 bullets, but you get 1 bullet back whenever you kill something. Indeed - but shields get stripped en route to closing in on enemies. I found that I wasn't able to count on melee or biotic kills to restore shields, because all too often a vanguard would come charging in to take the kill, or a sniper from across the map, or someone else would hit enemies in my annihilation field with a detonator. The only way I could restore shields at that point was to get out of the line of fire for a bit (or use a first aid pack). SPL probably works a lot better with a group of friends who communicate well, and understand that you need those kills / melee to restore her shields. It hasn't worked very well in random, no-mic PuGs IME.

You can read into that and imagine whatever you want it to be but it's nothing more than that. Throw/vortex is easy mode and SPL has more risk and greater rewards. If you are good you reap the benefits of the rewards. It's literally stupid how quick you can combo enemies when you get SPL going... ...

She's simply unreliable compared to non-CQC kits.

Vortex allows you to carry easier without eating consumables. I'm sure there's players out there that can solo with lance based builds but I've yet to see one. With vortex I really don't worry when the rest of the team sucks.

Also, why would you not use consumables?
