Looking to play an old school gun slinging Soldier type on my Insanity playthrough. Looking at the Profiles, it looks like either one can be good.
With the Solider profile you get a bit more weapon damage, a big accuracy boost, a bigger clip size (not needed with all weapons) and Marksmans Focus. Sadly, it doesn't increase power cells, which can be an issue because most Combat powers use them (which can be a pain).
Explorer gets 5% less damage, but more DR, tech cool down and biotic damage, as well as shield restoration. This allows a player to take Tech powers (like Invasion or Tac Cloak) for more damage, as well as proc Technical Rounds and abilities like Life Support for more survivability.. It also let's you an ability like Singularity to boost your damage a bit and expose enemies for another 20% damage.

Insanity isn't as insane as the older games in terms of difficulty.
Biotic blink for the win.
But why not both when you have 4 favorites?

I would go pure weapons if I played again. I was pretty let down when I discovered my Annihilation Field did not set off a biotic explostion when I charged someone. I didn't know if it was just a gameplay failure or an attempt at balance, but I still walked over everything.
Sadly there is no Saber in the game as I would have used in ME3...I'd probably just be a soldier with a hurricane and a black widow or valiant.

I went with Explorer for the DR, matched with the Pathfinder armor, and, well, because it's called Explorer.
