I would love NPC crew; it would make me feel better than relying on the others. |

Really don't see the need for it.
Kallo handle flying the ship, Suvi taking care of science related matters, Lexi from crew injuries and Gill keeps the ship working and SAM probably helps here and there when need be.
And there is also the squadmates sometimes helping inside the Tempest.
