Well, this goes to show that my personal taste differs quite a bit from that of those guys who made the lists for both Gameinformer and IGN. Nice try though. As they say, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. {and no, that does not mean that Eye of the Beholder would necessarily be in my personal top 100 )

I like seeing Jade Empire on the lists. It's the game that stuck in my brain as the 'best game ever'.
I played 3 out of top 10 on the first list and only one on the second.
Overall, these sort of lists just serve to amaze me at how many games are out there that they can put together a list of 100 best, when I barely played a dozen over my entire life.

Both lists stink because Dragon Age Origins isn't even in the top 20. Get a grip IGN and Gameinformer.

The levels of blasphemy inherent in those lists is insane.
Fine, I can accept that they're subjective, but that doesn't stop the blasphemy. Not even sure how some of that stuff even qualifies as an RPG.
I changed my main character's first name that nobody ever uses, but it appears on my savedata, so it's an RPG?
Beyond that, if companies use lists like this as metrics as to what people want, it explains why I don't give a shit about AAA games these days.

I honestly don't think I'd be able to judge 100 games in order. I could go top 10 however. Yuck at ME2 even being top 15, isn't this suppose to be a list for RPG games? Did you not even stop at XCOM: Enemy Unknown being listed in the first one? Anyone who puts XCOM:EU in the RPG section is not qualified to make a list. Anyone who bitches about ME2 being there rather than wonder how XCOM made it is probably not paying attention beyond "HEY I CAN BANDWAGON NOW". Both lists stink because Dragon Age Origins isn't even in the top 20. Get a grip IGN and Gameinformer. Meanwhile Shagger 3 made it to the very top few. *sigh* At least Mass Effect 2 is fighting it heavily, they're back to back in both lists.

Astrox and Epic Battle Fantasy 4 were apparently "official" enough for steam (And many others, but these are the only ones I went and bought on Steam to support the devs). I'd also dispute your "better supported" but you're obviously too dazzled by logos to care about actual game developers making good games for far less than AAA junkware. There are some VERY good devs publishing on Kongregate and Newgrounds, and ignoring their work simply because they aren't affiliated with some well-known company is a damned fine example of what is wrong with consumerism, where branding is more important than quality.

Plus the list is a bit of a joke which was my point about ME2, ME1 is more RPG than ME2 (the game that turned the franchise into action focused). If we're including games with minor RPG elements then sure, include ME2-present, XCOM(which I'd classify as a strategic game) and a few other watered down RPGs. the list also has nothing to do with me disliking games either, as I like most of them (ME2 included), but more so how people determine their top 10,15, etc etc RPG list.

What i can see about both Astrox and Epic Battle Fantasy 4 is the graphics from the era of 486 PCs and gameplay wise too. Those games can not cross the limits of the past. That is why im not interested in those games instead im watching brand new trailers and gameplays. ME2 was the first entry game in the franchise for me and it was the game that because of it i never played RE5 anymore. On the other hand you are right the combat is terrible in that game, corridor shooter right ? And there is no creative skill upgrade system and no loot at all. On the other hand character presentation and background in ME2 is actually fantastic. And im allways feel like ME2 is RPG. Because you can explore a whole Galaxy, a lot of conversations and choices ( of course almost no impact on ME3 i know ) , Shepard can be customized, 6 different class, many NPCs and side quests, many missions on different planets, and the game gives you some kind of freedom in the Milky Way. So i think ME2 is an RPG and not an action game as you described and yes ME1 is a more RPG than ME2 i can agree with that so it is as Borderlands 2 is more RPG than Diablo III. Both lists stink because Dragon Age Origins isn't even in the top 20. Get a grip IGN and Gameinformer. I don't understand them either because the final verdict both IGN and Gameinformer is score of 90/90 and not in the TOP 20. At least DaO is on the list. On the other hand i don't like DaO that much as i like DaI. Maybe that is because i was only played with the PS3 version -which is the worst port of the game- and i've got to play with the PC version.

Maybe that is because i was only played with the PS3 version -which is the worst port of the game- and i've got to play with the PC version. From what i heard it is better on PC (i only played it on PC so don't know about the console version) and critics that played it on PC rated it higher overall, like a 9.5/10 on Gamespot for the PC version which was a higher score than Gamespot's GOTY in 2009 (Demon Souls 9/10. same critic). At this point when i see PC games like Baldur's Gate 2 on these lists (which are well deserved) i have a feeling that probably most people that contributed to these lists didn't even play them and just wanted to pretend otherwise. i also find it interesting that IGN's list miss the new Zelda game, despite getting a 10/10 from their site and many more. i didn't play it yet by the way and this is all assuming that the list was made after it came out (they have Persona 5 there but maybe they played the JP version and the list is old, otherwise them forgetting about the new Zelda or not caring enough to have it on the list is amusing). Overall though i don't believe in top 100 lists or scores that much, not as much anymore anyway.

Hey I love Skyrim with over 4000 hours played but #1 RPG CMON. I'm beginning to think RPG should be removed as a category and we stick to stuff like best open world game, best first person shooter, best third person shooter, best isometric game, best strategy game, best turn based strategy game, best real time strategy game, best sci fi game etc. I'm no Witcher fan but to put Diablo above it is nuts!

I suppose that goes to show yet again how different tastes are between the average gamer and a game journalist. Some of these choices are real head-scratchers... Like anything released in 2017? Way too early to determine if it's that good or not id argue.

I like Skyrim but they are placed way too high.

Dunno if it's more sad or funny that Arcanum isn't on the list(s)...flawed as it was, that game was The Roleplaying game. Bloodborne, Zelda, System Shock, etc...what the hell are these people smoking?

Bloodborne, Zelda, System Shock, etc...what the hell are these people smoking? I think the problem is it was too flawed. Still, if I ever did a top 10, it would certainly get an honorable mention or maybe claim the 10th spot. Arcanum is a cult game for a reason that way, and it's one of those cult games that deserve the praise it gets

I suppose that goes to show yet again how different tastes are between the average gamer and a game journalist. Some of these choices are real head-scratchers... You’d be saying the same thing if litterally anybody else had made a list this long too. Don’t take it personally.
