Speaking of the PS4 Pro 4k youtube trailer anybody else watch it in native 4k and feel decidedly underwhelmed by the tech demo compared to how enthused Aaryn Flynn was with it? It didn't look a whole lot more impressive than the masterchief collection edition of Halo 4 running on XBO to me.

To get any benefits from 4k resolution you need a screen that is big enough to noticeably display the difference. After watching the trailer on my 78" JS9500 Im thinking of getting a ps4 pro for MEA. I usually only game on pc. Maybe I'll just use the TV as a monitor for my pc, but I also want to check out Horizon zero dawn and I need a ps4 for that.

I didn't see much in the trailer that wouldn't be possible on a standard ps4 in terms of lighting/shading and texture detail, imo. Horizon Zero Dawn does look promising but i've never been a fan of Killzone and find Guerrilla games to be a bit on the bland side in terms of setting, story, characters and level design but it looks very different to their past games so I think i'll wait and see on that one. If you don't already have a ps4 and there are enough exclusives to tempt you then a ps pro would a good bet but it's a shame they aren't going to include 4k blu-ray support which might have been enough to tempt earlier adopters like me to trade up.

I see no reason to buy a 4K tv. My tv is fine. If it were to not work anymore, for whatever reason, I might look at getting a 4K.

It didn't look a whole lot more impressive than the masterchief collection edition of Halo 4 running on XBO to me. *raises hand* Here. Agreed. Even when it's downscaled to 1080p, an image or a game that was originally rendered in 4k should make a visible difference. I've tried nVidia's 4x DSR on my rig, which does exactly that - render a game in 4k and downscale it for my 1080p monitor. The difference was clearly visible with every game I tried it, and resulted in a much higher image quality than the ME:A demo. Of course, to really tell the difference we'd need to see that game rendered in native 1080p to have something to compare the 4k trailer to... As a simple demo: the prologue trailer to Erasmus Brosdau's "The Lord Inquisitor" was rendered in 4k, in real time. Watch it on 1080p on youtube and you'll still see a lot of fine details (especially when the camera pans over the cathedral) because downscaling from 4k is basically super expensive AA.
not bad for being mostly made by a single guy with a handful of people to help out...
EDIT: erm, on topic - PC.

I just recently bought a 4k TV so now I'm debating whether or not to buy the PS4 Pro. My plan is to use Rise of The Tomb Raider to test how well the TV does 4k upscaling from a 1080 source (it better be damn good after dropping 4 grand!!!). Knowing me I'll end up buying the Pro and moving my current Ps4 into the bedroom regardless of how the above experiment goes . I'm a huge sucker for the "latest and greatest" where technology is concerned.

Xbox for me. My PC is hooked up to a 24" Monitor with stereo speakers. My Xbox is hooked up to a 49" 4K HDR TV with a 7.1.4 Atmos speaker system!
Plus I've always preferred Xbox Game Controllers to using a mouse and keyboard.
Then there's the Kinect voice control, of course. Assuming that we're getting it for Andromeda.
I don't have the 4K Xbox yet but will definitely be upgrading soon.

Gotta go PC, so long as it has controller support. If not, I'll wait for someone to mod it in. If that doesn't happen, I probably won't end up playing it at all.

Should I get a Playstation or Xbox? Depends on your pc. If you have to spend considerably more than the price of the standard consoles to play ME:A at an acceptable quality then probably. Between both consoles if you just want to play games and nothing else then the ps4 is a no brainer. For everything else the Xbox one is better. Much better interface, better controller, faster booting times, no reloading games on launch, digital games tend to be cheaper, it's runs cooler with zero fan noise and you don't have to install large updates every time you use it.

I'm missing a lot here. Why would... PS4 does practically nothing else well except play games. LOUDLY! It takes forever to find anything on the store and everything is over-priced. It's craptactular wifi (2.4ghz) results in considerably longer download times and less stable m.p. connections via wifi. You can use external solid state hdds on Xbox One which make loading times markedly faster. It has a few apps that the xbox one has like netflix but theres so much more choice / variety on xbox one as you'd expect given cross-compatibility with the windows app store. Social media integration/sharing features are a lot better and game streaming is higher quality & supported across more devices like tablets and phones. Proper backward compatibility is nice if you have a large x360 library. The interface and navigation menus in general are a lot more fleshed out with options and features which make it easier to use. It's just a better designed more rounded user experience imo. You can multitask a ton of Windows apps while playing games - everything from skype to youtube, to live tv, to twitch tv, video files via usb, amazon prime / netflix (until recently) in a side window while doing repetitive tasks in game e.g. grinding side quests in rpgs which is fantastic. Streaming media from home pc / server-hub, usb or internet is straightforward because all major file types are supported. You might not get the performance of a high grade gaming pc but you do get a lot of the same advantages. Streaming media via web or usb is next to impossible on ps4. It knows about 3 codecs. Trying to stream video to it or via the browser is a fools errand. It won't even play mp3s or cds. If you want anything more than a basic disk player i'd recommend the XBO over the PS4 everytime.

I dont know that much about TVs, but I did som research before buying my latest one. According to what I've read and heard from people that know more 4k is not much point below 65" (at least for movies and such). Even at 65" you should sit pretty close to the screen to notice much of a difference. I sit about 11 ft 5 In (3,5 m) from my 78", and apparently that is a bit much for 4k at that size.
