I just finished watched the Xbox E3 conference and so, just seen Anthem for the first time! It looks absolutely amazing and I am now considering upgrading my console for it.
Anyway. Does anyone else remember back to when they first announced and showed of Destiny at E3? They made those promises that you could explore all of that world, but then never showed it? I got the same vibe from this game, except they did show it! They showed it beautifully!
This game is what Destiny should have been! I am really excited for it. I think this game has definitely improved my thoughts of BioWare right now.

This game already seems more interesting than Destiny and I've only seen 5 minutes of it. I found the story and characters in Destiny to be incredibly uninteresting. The gameplay is pretty decent though.

Yeah, I think the plan for Secret IP eventually evolved into, "Let's make a Destiny killer with Bioware story magic".
Destiny has a head start, and while it's on the tail end of it's popularity, Destiny 2.0 might go head-to-head in competition with Anthem. Destiny 2.0 also comes out this year. That might be good for Bioware, it might be bad, depending on how good Destiny 2.0 is and how rapidly people lose interest and want something new. Now that Anthem is revealed (somewhat), Destiny 2.0 could schedule it's first expansion to copy-cat things showcased in Anthem, like flying, beasts you can hunt, and swimming underwater, thereby reducing Anthem's competitive edge before it even ships.

I hope for the sake of anyone who picks up Anthem that it is much, much better than Destiny. It's a AAA title with a free-to-play mobile game's attitude: Grinding for the sake of grinding. The fact this game is EA/Bioware's attempt to enter the same market is the very reason it's killed all my hype for it.

That might be tricky for them. I mean, you can't just add in flying to existing zones, which would probably break the way those zones are meant to be played, you need to design and build environments to accommodate it and retool gameplay so there is actually something to do with it beyond travel (On that note I fully expect there to be some sort of racing activity in Anthem). Same goes for underwater. They could get some of those things if they started the moment Destiny 2 was out the door, but that's a lot to add. My guess is that they would focus more on refining the existing gameplay as they did in the first game.

Underwater I agree with more, but flying is only incrementally more effort over what they've already had to do with boosted jump and skimmers. Another area Destiny 2 could undercut is weapon diversity. I would not be at all surprised to see a multi-target MIRV gun added to the Titan's arsenal in Destiny 2.0.

That's the exact vibe I'm getting from Anthem, destiny was nothing but failed promises (still enjoyed it to a degree, I did put in 1,200 hours after all) and since then other devs are trying to fill that role if what destiny was meant to be. Division has failed, destiny 1 failed, destiny 2 looks much better pvp wise but it's pve is in a very questionable state because of the pvp focus so it too might fail even after getting a 2nd try. I'm hoping Anthem can finally be that game cause it'll be glorious if it does.
Still to early for me to hop on yet, there hasn't been any extensive gameplay footage, nothing on character progression, mission structure, how the co-op feature will work, how will the microTs Play out (cause there will be MicroTs, please no RNG), etc etc.
