Came looking for this post. No idea what Beyond Good and Evil is but I just happened to catch the last ten seconds of the trailer. Just went back and watched the whole thing and now I'm interested. This looks awesome.
Can anyone give me some cliff notes about the first game?

I never played the first game but I'm aware of the critical acclaim it has received and I vaguely remember parts of the story. I'm looking forward to trying out this prequel.

15 years since the first one, huh? So it's a Half-Life or sorts this game...
I have no clue what the whole game and concept is about, and honestly didn't catch my attention, I can tell it's not my coup of tea. But, I still respect those who were waiting since ever for the next game, cheers for all of you.

I saw more of Beyond Good & Evil 2 today, you guys. I didn't cry this time but... almost. pbs.twimg.com/media/DCVATfuUMAAfFds.jpgFor those asking: yes, I saw gameplay. It's in very early stages, but I am already impressed. I asked about day/night cycle and devs laughed They took a ship, kept flying out and out and out (no load screen) to show me it's not a 'day night cycle'. It's a functioning solar system.

I'm actually really looking forward to this game i also played the first BGaE and loved  it.  This is weird though i can pre-order the game but when i look for an actual release date then they have no idea when the game comes out hmmm strange.   |

I just read that you have to be online to play the game but that you can play the game solo so i think that's at least some "good" news.  |

Report: Michel Ancel Accused of Abusive, Disruptive Practices on Beyond Good & Evil 2

For the French newspaper Libération, reporters Erwan Cario and Marius Chapuis spoke to Ancel as well as sources who worked under him, who describe Ancel's management style as disorganized, unhelpful, and abusive at times. This, sources allege, kept Beyond Good & Evil 2's development in disarray for years, especially as Ancel split his time between it and the game Wild.
In the report, sources tell Libération that work from developers at Ubisoft Montpellier on Beyond Good & Evil 2, an online open-world adventure sequel to the 2003 original, was regularly thrown out or deemed unusable by Ancel with little warning. One developer describes Ancel's management style in this regard as erratic, giving praise to workers in one meeting only to turn around and denigrate them in the next.
