Unlike the DA series which is less about the characters but more about the world of Thedas, Mass Effect had always been about Humanity's entry into the galactic civilization and the struggles that came to be through the eyes of Shepard and friends. That story ultimately came to an ending with ME3 (pun intended). Given the reception of MEA, did we really need to exhume the ME brand? Will MEA be seen in the same vein as the Star Wars prequels? A series of movies that didnt really need to be told and when it was told, did not live up to the magic as the OT.
Would it have been better if EA just divided resources and manpower to the DA4 and Anthem projects? Or just have had Montreal work on ME 1-3 remasters? Or just allow Montreal to create their own IP; a ME spiritual successor perhaps?

Stop campaigning for the destruction of the IP OP. There are franchises much older than Mass Effect many of which have had blunders of their own and they are still cranking out new entries so why should Mass Effect stop?

ME was still a profitable franchise in EA/BioWares minds so yes it was necessary. To Mass Effect junkies like myself, it came way too late. Was it good stuff? NO. After patch 1.05, it was okay. Do I want DLC to make the whole thing better? Absolutely. Andromeda, has potential. That's a start. |

If you're talking from a story standpoint? No not really. The trilogy was done, for better or worse and it was a perfect time to move on with doing a brand new IP. That said there are plenty of IP's that have more than 3 entries, but they've sticked to that formula from the start, like Assassin's Creed. I will say yes and no. As a franchise that is popular and could earn EA money? Yes. As a IP needing to continue for the sake of the story and universe? No.

Metroid just made a return after like 7 year hiatus, after that horrible game Metroid Other M.
Maybe Mass Effect will too, so theres hope.
More importantly, i found a game worth while to wait now, Metroid Prime 4. Please dont screw it up.

Doesn't say they are good games. For the most part they are trash, rehashed and rehashed to make some kind of profit with minimal production costs. MEA, well it wasn't a bad game, so I wouldn't say it's a gamebreaker. It's not an exciting game however. Nothing memorable really. So, did it have to happen. I don't know. I would have just been as content ending it with ME3. Was it an abomination? Certainly not. |

After the ME3 ending, I was done with ME. Disappointed it ended on an underwhelming note but I was ready to move on from the possibility of ever playing a new ME game any time soon or ever. Then MEA pre-release slowly got my attention, and MEA itself re-hooked me.  Now it looks like it's goddamn death of the franchise 2.0 and I've got nerd blue balls. HAHAHAHAHAHA KILL ME |

I don't know why all these people are crying about Andromeda. I look at it as a space game all on it's own with some ties to the ME:OT. It's a good RPG game. Is it the same as Mass Effect and Shepard? No. Geez. There are so many games you play for 20 hours for the same price, yet people have to cry about perfectly good, fun games. I came from playing Fallout 4 for a year to playing MEA. Will I be playing MEA for a year? No....but it's still a fun game and I liked it. There are always people...Even people in the Fallout 4 crowd saying it is not really a Fallout game. It's a good game..it is what it is..get over it. |

The Mass Effect IP doesn't solely have to revolve around the trilogy or Andromeda for that matter. As long as the IP is still profitable, Bioware will continue to develop games for it.
Look at Star Wars. They didn't just stop making movies because the prequel trilogy wasn't well received. They're continuing to make more despite that.

It didn't need to happen but if BioWare felt like there were more ME universe stories to be told then it was going to happen. I'm extraordinarily glad it did.
Plus remasters? For a set of games barely 10 yrs old? Into Frostbite no less? Now that's wasting money.
