I can't imagine it being impossible. Motherlovin' GTA and Fallout have it. I really do love being able to see the time of day change, though I'll admit that I wish that we could have it change more in real time than compressed game time (dunno if it's at all feasible but one can dream). I wouldn't. Say it's winter and you can only play after you get home from work. It would always be nighttime in the game, you would only get to see everything if you could play at different times of the day. That's fair, but it wouldn't have to be fixed. Like, you can accelerate time in FO4. I wouldn't be opposed to modes like DA2 where you can return to an area and have it be either day or night.

I can remember that modders were able to do this trick for DAO. Return to Korcari wilds mod has it shift from day to night, so I hoped the same could be done in other games, but maybe frostbite is too tough to work with. It seems that the modder in DAO just switched the sky and all the lighting and textures automatically switched to match. Also, a daytime mod for the camp in Origins, where you sleep and wake up to the morning, so at least it was possible in that earlier game.
It would be incredible if someone would work out a way in MEA and Inquisition, just to spice things up and keep it from going stale at 300 plus hours.

It's certainly possible to have it in a game, but I don't know if adding to an already released game would be practical. There's a lot of graphical elements that would have to be changed.
To make it work well, and look good, it should be planned for and built into the game from the beginning.

For me at least, I would like to see change if the scene dictates it. Otherwise, like Fallout 4, it didn't really change anything. My sneak skill is stay the same as daylight. In State of Decay, nighttime means reduced visibility and Ferals will end your night jaunt. It's more important to me that the world or worlds are bending to my will as a player. Outposts should evolve somehow. I shouldn't be running into respawns. There has to be tangible changes otherwise, it's a checklist quest that didn't do much to alter the world.

Features like that are best left in "life sim" games like Second Life. That would be really constricting to most players. Plus with the different planets to do it as realistically as possible each day/night cycle would be different for each planet, plus the distance from the sun as well. It would waste too many resources.

I think they can but for MEA it wouldn't feel necessary. Then again if it included weather cycles it could make things interesting.

Only if it's either cosmetic or something that is automatically managed by the game when needed.
I.E: "There are too many enemies. We must prepare an attack when the nights fall" "OK Let's do that" "Games switches to midnight"
Otherwise this is something that falls in that kind of "realistic" things that in the long run can become a chore along with repairing your equipment, refueling your vehicle and so on.
