Hello all! I am about to start a new DAO run after some years. I will play as my favorite warden, a female commoner (casteless) warrior dwarf, miss Brosca. The issue is this... I am somewhat willing to try out a dual wielder warrior, but every time I am considering it, a thought in the back of my mind always wins. 2handed warriors have one of the best & most needed ability for someone who fights in melee range, indomitable. I am so accustomed to it, that I simply cannot play any other melee fighter... now, don't get me wrong, I know the awesomeness of a backstabbing rogue or a dual wielder warrior... it's just that when in melee, enemies have plenty of ways to disable you. Knockdowns, push backs, stuns etc. Which means you spend a lot of time doing nothing, while a 2hander simply keeps on giving pain. So, a counter to this is physical resistance. A dual wielder with high physical resistance can resist the stuns etc... but, is it worthy to dedicate your dual wielder to physical resistance at the expense of other stats? Is it even possible to reach the 2hander standard of immunity (except overwhelm of course)? Or is the damage of a dual wielder warrior so much that the regular pauses because of a stun or a knockdown do not matter? Another kind of an issue I have with "abandoning" my favorite 2hander in favor of a dual wielder is the fact that a 2hander can spam talents, or should, since the 2hand talents have low cool downs. All talents have 10 to 20 seconds cd. Dual wielders are best as auto attackers with momentum on & plenty of runes on their weapons and the occasional talent like dual weapon strike or punisher (which is admittedly fun). The thing is this... I prefer to spam talents ... So, help me if you can. I need your advice on what kind of warrior is more fun to you & why (if possible). Indomitable & talent spam is what keeps me stagnant, if you like. Give me your thoughts on warrior gameplay please. And have a nice day!

Oh, keep in mind that I'm thinking of a dual wielder with two full sized weapons (like axes or swords), NOT daggers. I know auto attacking with daggers is the highest dps, but come on... a warrior wielding daggers? That's insulting. So, any advice is welcome.

My advice is to play how you enjoy playing. Our plays styles differ dramatically. Two handing it, is too slow for me. If I'm playing a melee type, then I like to play the frenzied weasel that is dual wielding. I also prefer rogue to warrior simply because the class is more versatile. I'm not into massive amounts of damage at once. I prefer to deal enough damage to defeat a given opponent and then move on to the next. And i like to do that as quickly as possible. Finally, big swords look silly to me for dwarves. I know the game has all sorts of large axes, hammers and swords for them, but it strikes me as kind of over compensating. My characters are secure within themselves.

One of my favorite runs was my DW Warrior run.
I got his dexterity high enough to get all the skills and pumped everything else into strength. That and gear that gives physical resistance and he was doing very well.
Two handers are just way too slow for me. My DW Warden used whatever two weapons had the best stats/abilities. I also kept him in medium armor. Never upgraded him to heavy.

Mousestalker, it's funny how it takes someone else to say to me what I always say to others, in order to realize something. Whenever someone asks a question 'bout the best spec, I always advise there is no "best" spec, "best" is always what you enjoy most... anyway, not exactly the same situation, just thought it was funny. Thanks for the input though. Oh yes Treacherous Slither, that's what I have in mind, 32 dexterity (36 with the fade bonus points) for dual weapon mastery, maybe 16 will (20 with the fade bonus points) so I can occasionally use some talents, 18 constitution (20 with the fade bonus points), then the rest points in strength. I will take berserker spec, but I do not know with what to pair it yet. Maybe templar, we'll see. Also, I plan to wear the legion of the dead armor... for me, that armor is like half the reason to start a dwarven warrior. Thoughts?

Knockdowns, push backs, stuns etc. Which means you spend a lot of time doing nothing, while a 2hander simply keeps on giving pain. Ah, this is a problem I have with the game too. 2H Warrior is probably my favorite class just because it likes micro for talent spam and animation canceling. That said, dual wield warrior can be fun and is probably actually an even stronger class. Not so fast my friend! The only two stats you need to increase as a dual wield warrior are Strength and Dexterity, and both contribute equally to Physical Resistance, (namely 0.5 a piece for Str or Dex over 10). For a solo, depending on race, you might want a point or so in Cunning to help with persuade checks, but it isn't mandatory. You will not need to invest any points whatsoever in the other stats, including Constitution. Options are 36 Dex, max Str for the best dps (best melee dps in the game potentially, higher than rogue*), or balanced Dex / Str for higher defense. Strength is important here for allowing the best armors and increasing damage of fullsize weapons. The answer is that no you can't get quite the same immunity that you would get from Indomitable. Your defense strategy is a little different. What is common among warriors should be heavier armor with high armor rating. That means even if you do get stunned or overwhelmed, you reduce the amount of damage per hit to low enough levels that you should survive it until you can hit a potion, or later can just regen health through it. There are a couple advantages that DW has over 2H in this department though. You will be investing a lot more into Dex, even at just 36, and will have a lot better defense to avoid some attacks outright. Shattering Shot or enemy 2H sunder attacks being the most notable. Secondly, you get double the number of rune slots since you can use two weapons. That means it is easier to slap in a couple Physical Resistance runes if needed to bump that stat . If you were only pumping Dex and Str to begin with, you will have enough to limit the duration of unavoidable things like Scattershot stun, or sunders from the above attacks. With higher attack speed, you also gain more benefit from stunning poisons and actually can derive benefit from paralysis runes, upping survivability quite substantially. If you go dual fullsize, spamming talents comes out around the same efficiency as auto-attacking IIRC. Dual Dagger has fairly weak talents except for Dual Weapon Sweep. Riposte is not that great on warrior due to low cunning, but still works reliably on enemy mages since they usually fail the check. *Best DPS is with fullsize offhand and Rose's Thorn mainhand, with Momentum and Dual Striking enabled since DS speed depends on mainhand weapon type only, and Rose's Thorn is nearly universally always one of the best weapons for a DW anybody to take.

Capn233, Thank you. I have totally forgotten the fact that strength & dexterity contribute to physical resistance! Coupled with the legion of the dead armor, my warrior should be more than fine ... or maybe the knight commander's plate, if I go for the templar 100% spell resistance route. In any way, cheers for the help guys.

I can never hit anything when I'm a two-hander. My hit rate is laughable from the very beginning. Sure, if I do connect, I'm deadly, but, honestly, I'm just terrible at it.

Yeah the attack rating holds you back in the beginning as 2H since any miss is painful. That's the other part of why 2H should practically only invest in Strength. And then look for whatever gear they can that boosts Attack (at least until you have enough from attributes).
edit: Also this is why Powerful Swings is not a good sustain.

Spellpower scales all of the stats with a shapeshifter mage, giving it very high physical resistance from spellpower along with high mental resistance from investing in magic. An awakening shapeshifter can easily hit the cap with both resistances. I favor dual wield warrior, The damage is astounding with 2 Veshialle axes. Nothing will stand in your way.

I won't say never- The specialization Guardian has abilities for warriors are based off of their Con score, the skills buff con a bit in Awakening, stout runes add a bit of con, and lot of the armor in Awakening buffs both con and strength. I'll stick to Dex and Strength myself in Origins, but it can be a bit hard to avoid increasing the Constitution score in Awakening for warriors.

I mean investing attribute points in it. You can get a fair amount from gear in Origins too, or Health or Health Regen. Will is sort of the same thing.
Guardian seems a bit redundant to me in Awakening. I don't think I would switch to spending points on Con there just for a defensive bonus given how powerful the offensive talents get in that game.
