I am surprised to see that The Warden has the least votes and the IQ with the most.
IQ for me was too bland and didnt have an array of personalities.
I voted for Warden.

Although I also expected Warden to win, IQ can feel more of a personalized character than Hawke. Hawke is an excellent protagonist but s/he is too pre-defined like Geralt from Witcher (though nobody can beat Geralt).

1. Warden is my favorite by far, perhaps because the origin-main game integration gives him a lot of customization and personality, all infused by the player, so it feels really your character from the ground up. 2. Agressive Femhawke - i love jo wyat work, there are great moments like siding with petrice, and her switch of tones is very natural. Hawke is quite pre-defined but inside that spectrum, i think DA2 gave a good amount of personality options. 3. Inquisitor - her personality is imo a bit bland, or perhaps heroically generic, though some moments show potential, and headcanon with the different races helps in fleshing out her personality. I think the game would have benefitted greatly from an "origins like" proper conclave introduction, where the PC could talk to acquaintances, define relations and later on meet them again.

IMO, "Angry"/Abrupt Inquisitor has just as much personality as Purple Hawke. The key is in foregoing some of the non-advancing ("tell me more about...") dialogue options.
I honestly wish they'd hide which options are advancing/non-advancing. I think seeing the distinction encourages players (myself included) to pick dialogue options that dilute the character. Non-advancing dialogue options are treated more as a gameplay mechanic to get more quest info, than as real dialogue. We feel tempted to exhaust the entire set regardless of whether it fits the character.
Plus, it makes people feel like there are less dialogue options total, even when there aren't, because non-advancing options are not counted equally. The dialogue wheels have the same number (often more) options than the flat lists in Origins, but people perceive fewer options because they now view only the 3 advancing options as "real" options. Whereas in Origins, you'd see 6 options side by side, but most were actually non-advancing ones.
If tone markers make sense, then give even non-advancing options tone markers. And don't separate non-advancing from advancing options. This seems counterintuitive, hiding information from the player, but I genuinely think it would be a huge improvement to people's perception of dialogue.

Unfortunate to see the warden lacking behind in votes in this poll too! They are my favorite and I generally think silent protagonist is a good thing in rpgs (They allow for more roleplay and I like that freedom). I like hawke and the inquisitor but hawke never really felt like my character and the inquisitor didn't feel like they had much personality (even if you gave them one, it wasn't portrayed that well in the game, well, at least for any character idea I came up with.)

I am far more invested in my various wardens and inquisitors than in Hawke because they're more mine, I get too choose more about them. They're also more distinct from each other, whereas all my Hawkes come from roughly the same background.
I favour my wardens over my inquisitors because origins allow me more emotional connection to them. With that beginning giving me a chance to experience their lives and choosing how they feel about things before main plot comes knocking, and with the returning to places/ things/ people from those origins giving me more investment in those main plot areas.
So yeah Wardens > Inquisitors > Hawkes

Let's see. Emotionally attached to 3/4 Wardens I've played. Dislike one companion (Lel). Adore 2 LIs (Alistair/Zev). But now I'm pretty burnt out on the game.
Attached to 2/5 Hawke's I've played. dislike one companion (Bethany). Adore 1 LI. (fenris) Am not burnt out on the game.
Attached to 1/5 Quizzies I've made. dislike 2 advisors (lel and jose) and kinda dislike Cass, after romancing her, and feel completely neutral to IB. Actually, the more I play, the more neutral I feel to Solas as well. Even my first PT, I felt only moderate friendship with him and it's gone donehill since. Adore Cullen, enjoyed Blackwall. Dorian's had his moments, but I think, like Morrigan, maybe I loved him as a friend more. Although I still haven't finished his romance- he may surprise me. Despite disliking more people, I don't seem to be burnt out on the game, although I'm cutting more content each time I boot it up.
Huh. I thought after typing all that out, I'd have a clear winner. I GUESS, in the end, if I take ONLY protaganists into account,
Landsmeet moment...
My vote is with the Warden.

snip The Warden was not fully voiced and was part of a mediocre story with a below-average supporting cast. So they are on the bottom. My douchebag Cousland who slept with everyone and married Anora was amusing, but we didn't really connect on an emotional level
This made me laugh. Sounds like an old boyfriend.

Warden, my inquisitor is very close though. I pick warden cause I think non voiced protagonists have more role play to them and the dialogue can be said in your mind exactly as written where as half the time the voiced protagonists don't say what you was wanting to say as written on screen, it takes away from role playing. It honestly makes me wish they'd go back to that style but I know most people wouldn't want to go back to that, unfortunately 😒

Honestly I'm surprised to see the Inquisitor in the lead. I picked Hawke, myself. To me the Inquisitor is so very bland and boring. I only have slight attachment to one and that's my first play through IQ. I hope I never have to play as the IQ again. The only thing that would make me want to play as her again would be Blackwall returning I love my Wardens and am actually pretty attached to all of them and especially to Alistair but man, Hawke was so great. Her story, her family, her companions. Poor Hawke, everything that could go wrong, did

Yes, this can be disappointing, but someone feels, that easier to imagine the protagonist's emotions/reactions without showing, what his/her MUST feel. I can understand this as well. I just love Hawke and his/her friends, whit their expressions (not every expression is what I can imagine, but still).

It's difficult to articulate why I love being the Warden. Without a voice, I imagined myself saying those words. The second is Hawke. Beautifully voiced and well-written. The Inquisitor is third, but only because some of his responses didn't match what I expected him to say.

Taken aside as an individual character, I think Hawke stands out. However, I voted for Warden(s). There are just so many ways to approach the character and interact. The choice is also strengthened by Origins being my favorite of the games overall.
While I maintain a very specific canon character, I recently caved and made an alternate. Through that process, I also amused myself by concocting a list: What if I had a different playthrough for each Origin? I don't plan on utilizing it, but I can see the draw in interacting with each of those individuals. Hawke is a strong character by her/himself. And the Inquisitor does offer some roleplaying potential, but the Warden is my clear winner.

Imagine Hawk as a Protagonist in DAI. Oh dreams... Yeah, but then you can't play three other races in DA3, and that's something it did right. Nothing about the Inquisitor's background in particular precluded him from having as cool and engaging personality as Hawke had. It's just he neither had the consistent writing, nor the memorable cast to feel more personable. In fact, some of Inquisitor backgrounds, particularly Qunari and Dwarf appeal to me far more than a Hawke, the son of a rebellious noblewoman and an apostate....
