Unfortunately I have started to see them, a few have reported it being a hoax and of course the comments still are talking like it is true. Edit: Its like the comments are now blaming Anthem for the "death of Mass Effect", but I bet those were the exact same people proclaiming that "Mass Effect 3 was the death of Mass Effect". Anyone blaming Anthem for anything can't be taken seriously. Even if they drop MEA for real it won't be because of Anthem, since they have invested a shitload of money and manpower into MEA. No company drops that kind of investment because of the next shiny on the Horizon which is in development anyway. By a different division. If they drop MEA, it would be a business decision based on Andromeda's success or lack thereoff.

I've seen more than a few YouTube channels claiming its true, but...well...what can you do? Why do you even feel like mentioning that? There's all kind of shit on youtube. Starting with fart videos and ending with conspiracy theories. Youtube offers the opportunity for every idiot to declare themselves a moron on a global level.

What are Sinclair Networks lying about? If Ian says he doesn't know them, I'm taking that as a true and accurate statement. www.imdb.com/company/co0623436/They're listed as working on Andromeda as well as dozens of other games. That page

I wish I was this clever. I got duped by a Facebook Mass Effect Community post from Sinclair Networks announcing the first patch. Went over to their page and everything seemed legit...they had followers, posts before Mass Effect Andromeda that referenced other games, they talked to people in the comments...out in the open, unafraid. I lurked here but never saw anything about them so I created an account to bring it up since it seemed to be a missing piece, not realizing the piece was missing because it was nonexistent. I am glad though that an elaborate hoax got snuffed, an epic troll got epic karma, and BioWare is engaging their fans. That's it and that's all That's the thing. They established themselves by posting something harmless first. Such as the first patch being released. So everyone would have heard the name but not in a controversial context. Nobody had any reason to question them being legit at that point. They established IMDB pages that crop up if you google for credentials. It was quite a lot of effort, but at the same time not really elaborate. Since they obviously came from Australia or NZ, they chose to place their company on the other side of the world, believing that most people here are Americans and noone would even bother to check in the first place. I wouldn't have done it either, if they had chosen an adress in some town in Nebraska. What made me suspicious when looking at their FB page was the absence of the Bioware logo in the their made up portfolio. From there I noticed that the logos weren't clickable, which is highly unusual, since every company likes to brag about what they done for these people. What also gave me pause was the 0800 number for a company. So I looked at the phone book, and when that didn't turn up any results I made my two calls. I have to say, if I had seen that Kellar character first, I would have instantly run a check. Too much bragging for some serious businessman, but no new posts after april. No friends, no links, no nothing. That one screamed fake account. I'd only like to add that someone pointed out later that person might have been from Indonesia. One of few liked FB profiles fake Sinclair's personal profile was some Indonesian group page, which rather stood up. Since Indonesia is in that part of the world with Australia and New Zealand, as well plenty of Indonesians write English well. maybe that person from there. Although it is possible guy just likes Indonesia and knows Indonesian language to some extent.

As far removed as possible from their own homebase and far removed from the bulk of BSN users. The timezone they posted in falls into the pacific region in any case.

Starting with fart videos and ending with conspiracy theories. Youtube offers the opportunity for every idiot to declare themselves a moron on a global level. Just in case someone didn't know, or had a solution. After all, about 24 hours ago, a whole bunch of people thought this hoax was real...and then a bunch of posters did some digging and exposed it for the lie that it was. Maybe I'll get lucky, and someone will have an idea to help stem the tide of slime that oozes from the depths of Google... The thing is though...aside from the fact that this did take a bit of effort...are we going to see something like this happen again? There is a VERY real possibility that this particular act of trolling will inspire others to do the same, perhaps on a more elaborate scale in order to provoke a reaction. This, at the least, got a few people from Bioware talking (EA seems particularly silent, surprise, surprise...). Hopefully, this doesn't give rise to imitators of a seedier, and disingenuous variety.

As if this was anything new. It has been around before the internet and it won't go away with social media being omnipresent and believed by most of it's users. Before the arrival of the internet it was only harder to disprove than it is now. The first event of this kind I know of, in my own little bubble of the world, was a hoax in the year 1950. A renowned comedian running a press campaign on an eskimo poet visiting Vienna. They all came to greet him at the rail station. And out came the comedian, having a good laugh at their expense.

Unsurprising, but Facebook can tell what city you're connecting from. And can't VPNs be traced, given enough time?

Same here really it may not be to the same standards of their other games but I've played games I think are worse. They can't hit the bullseye everytime but they get damn close and whilst they did miss i tthis time they didn't miss it by as much as some people aer claiming I don't think as MEA i sstill a pretty good game. Unfinished mind you but still good. We just need the DLC's to fill in the gaps and any patches left hopefully by March next year we'll be enjoying the full package. Hopefully before then but only time will tell.

True, but now they know they can get a reaction. Now, it gets fun...depending on your definition of such. Now, next bit of news we get, even if it IS from the source, is going to be met with a good dose of skepticism. Whatever the purpose, which we'll likely never know, it did a bang up job of getting everyone riled up. At least we had Bioware straight out say 'We CAN'T talk about it', which was nice, AND also puts the onus on EA themselves. Not that they probably care, but we know WHY they kept quiet... ...also, we confirmed that Bioware lurks here too. I'll take that as a plus.

It's been a long day. People honestly took differing views, we're not going to beat them up about that. Not even a teensy weensy 'I told you so' dance? I wouldn't hold it against them if they did that, just sayin.

True, but now they know they can get a reaction. Now, it gets fun...depending on your definition of such. It always was fun. Also in the example I quoted. The guy just wanted to provoke a reaction by the press and succeeded. I assume you don't speak German, but there was quite a number of articles even reviewing the non existing litarary work of Kobuk the Eskimo poet. Like this one.

Haha just read an article where they state BW proved the no story DLC was wrong, then went on to say that despite that, no one is working on DLC because they are working on Anthem and no DLC at E3 likely proves that it wont happen. Journalists lol

There's a possibility, yes, but lets not forget that a huge part this hoax's success is that there's too many people out there who lack an ability and/or will to exercise basic critical thinking. If you only ever run with official info then avoiding being taken in is relatively straightforward. Lets not forget that people were effectively listening to some random guy on the internet and, for some reason, prioritising his info over actual developers of the game. That was an inherently naive thing to do. He may have did his prep but so do phone scammers and con men. The devs at Bioware haven't actually responded regarding any details on what they may or may not be working on, they simply pointed out that they have never heard of a fictional company. The only thing a person needs to do to avoid a hoax like this is to use some common sense.
