Music was to much in the background for me to take interest in it, very different than the OT that was so in your face about it. I had to YouTube the OST to really hear them (and it was much better since it wasn't so ambient). You're right. There is a clear difference. I'm catching on to what you said.

The other half is watching the Handmaiden's Tale on TV right now (a fun evening's entertainment right there), [snip] If your other half chose to watch it, then it probably is a fun evening's entertainment for them. Why are you ragging on them for enjoying something? Especially to a group of strangers on the internet? Are things ok at home? Does your other half rag on you for playing video games? If that's the case, you guys should split up and find people to date who don't mock you for having different tastes and interests. Or just stay single and avoid all that fuss. After all, masturbation and gaming go hand in hand.

The galaxy map theme is REALLY REALLY on par with the original imo. They did it. The other tracks are weak. this must be the weakest bioware ost for me. itjust is not there. Inquisition on the other hand although scarce ingame had some top quality-emotion tracks.

I agree with the general sentiment I have found the in game music in Andromeda to be distinctly underwhelming and unmemorable.

I find the quality of sound tracks in Bioware games have been in a steady decline since after Dragon Age Origins and ME2.
I'm one of those who find music in games and movies incredibly important to set the mood and atmosphere, so this saddens me greatly. While I do like Andromeda the soundtrack was just weak.

The music in this game was lacking...it wasn't prominent enough or memorable. Had this generic feel to it. Also, ambient music is becoming a problem for me. I don't mind it in doses, but don't want the entire soundtrack consisting of it. I want music to evoke a reaction to the setting and emotional moments. Music needs to tell its own story. Nothing annoys me more, than to hear ambient music in a supposed emotional interaction between characters. That scene could be twice as effective, if only the right music was used. I look back to mass effect 3, that game had amazing music and implemented its music masterfully into emotional scenes. Andromeda is full of either generic or ambient music.

While music appreciation is all subjective ( even professionals are incapable of objective criticism most of the time ) i also found the music somewhat underwhelming besides the opening theme. There are nice excerpts but it is often too non descript. Yet Paesano is a fantastic orchestrator , he's got some wonderful contrapuntal lines but it's like he didn't grasp to what extent various scenes needed to be emotionally enhanced by music. But while the other games had a roster of composers here it all fell on Paesano's shoulders... a tall order . Composers have a style so it's normal that it will permeate all they write so if you want bigger range of contrast, it's wiser to have a team of writers. But he could have tried a bit harder. lol.

www.develop-online.net/interview/heard-about-mass-effect-andromeda/0231978You don't notice the music because they tried a new system that kind of fails miserably with regards to implementing music. "With Andromeda, the team took music interactivity to ‘the next level’ by developing a highly flexible system that facilitates a hybrid of traditional music scripting with a completely parametric and contextual procedural system. Voillot explains: “It detects you’re in combat, aggregating the total ‘CombatStress’ and transitioning to the correct intensity music. On top are ‘Combat Overlays’ triggered and layered in sync reflecting e.g. a headshot kill. These mix perfectly with ‘Ambient Overlays’ when the action dissipates and you resume exploring. When the player enters conversation, we auto-switch to the ‘Conversation Mood System’, which uses the writing tools to pick a conversation ‘Mood’– line-by-line if needed. The great thing is we got the writing team to help set this up as they knew the context best. So that’s the procedural system – but at any point we can override it with the ‘Scripted’ system - more akin to what we’ve done previously.” - They need to go back to what they've done previously, as the current system isn't firing on all cylinders... Adapting music to the action is hardly new. TIE Fighter did it brilliantly, and that was mid-90s. OK no overlays, just transitioning to an appropriate piece seamlessly, but the concept of overlays rather implies you're going to have to have something pretty nondescript.

Regarding Peasano, the piano as an instrument in the main theme is a really weak choice. it lacks the necessary oomf for my tastes. The i - v interval in inquisition was powerfull due to the cello (or whatever) , in andromeda the use piano is weak.

I agree that Andromeda's music is not that memorable (apart from Galaxy map theme and The Main theme) on the first playthrough only. I guess I'm hearing more of it now that I'm in a NG+. and I'm loving it. And by taking some time to listen to it while not in the game, you can see that there are many great themes in there, like"Hunt For Archon". And I don't agree with your first point, to be honest. OK, they somewhat re-used Vigil for some important scenes, like Rannoch and Tuchanka Arc, but there are some great music in ME3 and its DLCs. Leaving Earth, I was Lost without You, An End Once and For All, I'm proud of you and Das Malefitz from Faunts (a callback to the original Mass Effect) are some of the masterpieces from the main game only. The whole Extended Cut ( The extended once and For all version) and Citadel DLC soundtracks ( I dream of Sushi, Citadel Underbelly, The End... , Shepard's Tango are just some of those) are both awesome and marking as well. tl;dr: Bioware still got it. If you pay close attention to the in-game music, it looks awesome, but unfortunately something happened and IMO the music is hidden and doesn't have that sense of epicness like ME2. But then again, ME1 didn't have that as well, apart from one theme or so and Andromeda has it too.
