To make another comparison to me3, there it was not really possible to farm platinum with pugs, Haha this is literally the same argument I'm having on reddit! This being BSN I can be brief and harsh: You are wrong. ME3 Plat farming is both possible and commonplace with PUGs.

Yeah and if JuggerNuggss wants me to curry him on Plat he has to let me broadcast the games. When we eventually fully extract ( that's what she said) I want the world to know.

I appreciate what you bring to the community, especially your work with the weekly Twitch Streams. But man, now you have all the people on reddit thinking I do nothing but camp the box of shame on platinum.

But man, now you have all the people on reddit thinking I do nothing but camp the box of shame on platinum. Why, are you a filthy camping PUG? Also I find all the 'box of shame' discussion really comical. That's super old news for ME3 Plat farming. Giant LZ was far more effective. Or shit, any of the other stuff I listed. Rio is sloooooooow which makes it pointless to farm, since the entire point of farming is to maximize credits / minute.

I don't know if it's a lower or higher level of shame, but I didn't even really bother with platinum. Edit: I misinterpreted "hug box" as another name for the box of shame.

There were a lot of people really hard trying to farm me3mp platinum. But actually successful in pug platinum farming were only the top x%. For an average pug gold farming was far more effective considering the fail rate.

Some farming strategies are already spinning in my mind. IMO, two chars with shield boost might be sufficient, all the rest can go to dps skipping fitness, same as ME3, every little bit of damage and debuff counts. Camping might be harder but synchronous migration from one spot to the other should be doable, depends on what they throw in and how the enemies may line up. Probably, Zero is going to be the best map. Another possibility might be limits on grenade and ammo refills, so some infinite ammo weaponry might come handy. And hopefully, they release serious power cell capacity gear, like +5 or +7, that might work.

The majority of very good players on PC actually did not play platinum after they got enough credits; they went back to gold because the ceiling in platinum for most classes that weren't the destroyer and gi and cameltoe and the couple of turian/krogan specific kits was artificially mandated for consumable use, specifically of the three and four variety, and then waves composition stuff like Cerberus eight or geth wave seven that were just hyper tracking spam fests.
It's the same paradigm in Warfarme; plenty of players can play Sortie-level content, but if they took Rivens out of sorties and just made a sortie planet, the only players that would be there continually would be 5000 plat bought soma riven tryhard mesas and covert lethality lokis, and eventually even they would not only get bored of that but bored of the game in general.
So other than Sirian and the other usual suspects complaining about noobs in their plat games, which was a bald faced troll attempt because sirian never played public games after the whole jay haxtatrax thing, and I'm sure two rather obvious posters here will try the same thing and should be autobanned for it, it wasn't really a thing aside from FTL's continual attempt to thunderdome people who didn't worship him as their god and liege.

... To make another comparison to me3, there it was not really possible to farm platinum with pugs, with some few exceptions like rios box of shame or lz of giant. And even with this setup bad pugs could make you fail. Average pug was definitely not able to solo it some not even a single wave. When the efficiency lacks it's not really farming, it's more a trying hard. That is not very accurate statement. I'm met a lot of good friends playing platinum pugs, and I never had even a single speedrun spawn-nuking game. The pinnacle was me meeting Cleocide on his Australian host pugging with Volus engineer and asking somebody to please take a Juggernaut. I did, I don't mind, and we then played for about a month together getting the manifest done. After that, he was able to quite comfortably solo platinum with drell adept plus claymore under 30 minutes. Same story with NightSlasher, Zoe aka AnotherZoe on her second account, Warriorsea aka VanishedOne, etc, etc and many non-BSNers. Sometimes, it were camping, sometimes it were running around. Camping went a bit faster, more efficient and less stressful. And yes, you can camp with proper setup on every map, well, harder on Condor, but still doable. Platinum changed the perception of the game. It was possible to pug it, not too bad, extraction rate was about 75%, but some games were very slow. However, if you click with some player in a platinum game, this was valuable, usually ended in sending two FR in both directions simultaneously. I hope same thing happens with MEA, not sure though.

I still remember the travesty of a "thunderdome" that he challenged Air Quotes to. I gave up watching after they wiped on Giant/Reapers. Did they actually manage to extract at any point across the three hours of attempts?

Condor, London and Rio just weren't good maps at all, much less good for plat Have to wholeheartedly agree with you on Condor, but only because all the ammoboxes are bugged. I´m usually out of TCPs by wave 6 if the game goes well (read: pugs get shit done). And that´s with the assault loadout btw. But the other two are quite enjoyable for the most part.

Doable and fun in repetition are not necessarily family members. All three maps could be done, compared to other maps offered frankly rote strategies for dealing with situations and placement. meh.

BTW: I met FTL in random gold puggin lobby. Gold was simply the most fun. I ran plat for a time with some friends - yes it was easier together. Yes it was better credits. But in the end I just kept playing gold. We had this missile plat run, where we would figure out who and when was to missile the spawns. The plan didn't really work out, since we did another "normal" run where we'd whip out our GIs, put lvl4 ammo on and speed ran the whole thing just a minute longer than with the elaborate missile compartment. I stopped playing the game for a month after realizing how trivial the game can become. I think I never again touched GI with Piranha on CC map. Gold just allowed all the variety the game had to offer and that I appreciated very much.

Well I can't view page 2 of this thread for some reason (my web filter seems to think there is adult content?) but I did want to follow up on some previous commentary.
The guy on reddit seems to think I am (was) some kind of ME3MP god whose Platinum prowess is unmatched by your average PUG. To which I say... what?
I don't consider myself particularly good at shooters. I have lousy reflexes (I'm in my 40s FFS), I never mastered some mechanics such as reload canceling, my aim is crappy so I get few headshots, and I only ever vaguely knew the wave compositions and spawn points.
But what I did is play Platinum a lot. A LOT. Hundreds and hundreds of hours, thousands of games (roughly 2,000 I would guess). Grinding it out with PUG after PUG after PUG. So many Giant / Reapers / Platinum games that I can't even count. So many games where I did nothing buy hold down 'B' for 20 minutes (Geth Juggernaut). So many games that ended in failure on Wave 3 or Wave 5 or Wave 10 due to Geth stunlock bullshit or Devices bullshit or general me + PUG crappiness.
Relatively late in my ME3MP career I became XBL friends with some of the top players there -- you guys know who you are; I'm not going to put my foot in my mouth by forgetting to mention someone by name in a list. Did I get carried a lot? Hell yes I did. Did I start returning the favor to random PUGs when I could and was able to? Yes.
I still don't see how this makes my experiences so abnormal. I feel like I took a pretty typical path to manifest maxing: clueless newb --> play a shit-ton of Platinum to grind for credits --> slightly more clueful non-newb --> play a shit-ton more games --> eventually max manifest.
I am *convinced* we will say 'average PUGs' grinding Platinum for credits on MEA. I don't think it will be just the 'good' players (like me apparently?!) grinding Plat. It will be everyone who wants credits. Which is... almost everyone, right?
