I can't see any comparison, I do see the comparisons with the Normandy though, the Normandy was based off delta wing fighter planes and the concorde.

A little bit. Not quite as delta winged as the XB-70 but the front canards do add that touch.

This was actually in Casey Hudson's twitter back at the start of May. Tried to make it larger and it doesn't look like the name on it is normady. It was a retweet from archillect (ocular engine). Very cool looking and someone probably having fun with normandy images.

No. Its very similair to the Concorde. Was going to say that. Doesn't remember much the Tempest apart from the obvious resemblance all ships designed to fly bear since the Demoiselle-20.

I think the Tempest was designed as a smoother version of the Normandy.
That said, the Normandy SR1's design was inspired a lot by delta wing fighters, according to some Casey Hudson interviews from back in the ME1 days, so I guess in a way, you are correct.

No. Its very similair to the Concorde. I still think the canards on Tempest are far closer in shape to those on the XB-70 than they are on the Concorde. I believe the Concorde also had a front gear to support it when it was on the ground (located ahead of the front of the delta wing). The XB-70 doesn't appear to have had this sort of support... relying instead on the backend weight to balance the front and keep it off the ground. I believe that not having any apparent front end support on the ground was a criticism leveled at Tempest when its desgn was first revealed. Thanks kino for giving me a more proper name for those "winglets." I also find it somewhat intriguing that the XB-70 was also called the Valkyrie and we have a Turian AR also called the Valkyrie... and no gun called a Concorde... just a thought.

I studied about this in the AFJROTC. It was designed to quickly strike targets deep into Soviet Russia. They were an alternative for a Commander-in-chief to nuke a target with a chance to recall. There is no recall with an ICBM. That all changed when Reagan became president. The B1-B was a more economical solution to the issue. Thank God (the Maker) that it never got a chance to prove itself.

I believe that not having any apparent front end support on the ground was a criticism leveled at Tempest when its desgn was first revealed. To be fair though, the Tempest might simply not need the front support because it's got mass effect fields to adjust its weight balance. BTW, there was also an interesting "making of the Tempest" video pre launch, where they talked about design ideas. Apparently, one guy suggested to have the vehicle hangar at the top of the ship. Then, when the tempest lands, the nose actually tilts down to the ground and the Nomad is using the top of the fuselage as a ramp to get to the ground. Unfortunately, they couldn't make it work with the engine but I thought it was a cool design idea. Would have loved to see that in game.

Why not this one? It's a very common form, geared at people who think that space ships need some conventional aerodynamics and wouldn't use shuttles to land on planets while the ship itself stays in orbit.

Lacks the longer canards of the XB-70... but sure. Here's the full story - I showed a screenshot of Tempest to a friend who is not into gaming but more into planes and he instantly recalled the XB-70. Since, he said, that only two XB-70's were ever built and it was so long ago... I thought it was neat that it instantly came into his head.

A very common form for that kind of purpose. But by the same token one can also compare the Normandy to these models. It had the same basic shape. Tempest is just the Normandy.

Yes I can see the similarities -however... I personally think it is based off the XB-70, Concorde and the SR-71: XB-70+ Concorde+ SR-71 Equals:

I personally think it is based off the XB-70, Concorde and the SR-71: XB-70+ Concorde+ SR-71 Equals: We have a SR-71 Blackbird at Lackland here in San Antonio. It's hardly ever open to the public, but it is brought out for a static display on holidays. By the way, for a plane that has been declassified, it still gets an honor guard of soldiers to protect it while it's on display. Every time I see it, I'm reminded that this plane flew over Soviet Russia unchecked. Unparalleled.
