At the start of MEAMP it seemed the standard wait till a very short time left and stay well away form the ezone and then happily zip to the ezone, relax, have a cappuccino and discuss the match before the shuttle arrived.
Now they purposely insert camped enemies in the ezone (Always seem to be two snipers for the outlaws), you have to battle your way through enemies fiercely unless you are an infiltrator type and you still get swarmed last minute because the enemies spawn so fast and the location of spawn points.
Any new tips or tricks to share? I almost exclusively pug so rarely do you get a nice cohesive movement to the ezone that friends might carry out.

I usually head back at 30s to go just to make sure the LZ is clear.

Gotcha. Unfortunately I don't have any better advice. : ( Maybe make sure your finest pair of try hard pants are clean and pressed in case you need to put them on? I've had a few really bad extractions kind of similar to what you're describing. Maybe the team got back early, but it was basically a front row seat to the Annointed parade.

I've noticed that too, and it happens with objective waves also. Hack, devices, pizza, you name it. There's always a couple of fuckers spawning right in the objective zone to make it even more annoying.
Back on topic, I handle extraction the same as usual, probably I wait longer than usual (say, I rush to LZ 10 seconds away, all depends on distance ofc). I don't even bother killing whatever spawns there, because you kill it and there's 10 thousand fuckers ready to take its place. It's dumb "immersion wise" too, like if the LZ is crowded with baddies the pilot is not gonna land to pick up the team and risk the transport, that's like extractions 101.

I usually do it like this: Stay on the opposite side of the map (as far from the LZ as possible). 30 seconds left: start moving towards the LZ and kill the camping Sharpshooters. Hold a position close to the LZ but don't enter it yet. 10 seconds left: enter the LZ.
Example on Zero: start out at the pug camping corner, at 30 seconds start moving and get to the room that is right in front of you when you spawn in (or to the bigger one with the ammo box in it, depending on the situation), kill the Sharshooters and stay in the room until the countdown reaches 10 seconds. When it reaches 10 move to the LZ.

You are supposed to save a gel for extraction. That is a rule from back in ME3MP that I still follow.

Anymore when playing with friends (3-man or 4, not duo) we'll just camp the LZ for lulz as often as not. It's not really appreciably more difficult than a wave 6 hack or upload.
With PUGs, ME3-style sprint across the map in the last 20-30 seconds. Barring a spacedog-sync or losing track of time while killin' it's seldom difficult to make it unhindered.

Provided you have gels, you can also deliberately die in the extraction zone, hope no one picks you up, and revive yourself right before the timer runs out.

Why? You can extract with enemies in the zone. Fuck em. Stand right next to those motherfuckers and wave goodbye. True - as long as one of three things don't happen. 1) You don't jump 2) You don't get sync'd 3) You don't die within 3-4 seconds before the timer runs out. I've missed the extraction on all three of those. Not sure why 1) but it has happened more than once. I would include being a hair outside the extraction zone but that was my own fault. Re 1, unless you jump out of the LZ that shouldn't be a problem. I routinely hover over extraction and it's never not worked.

The height thing is really weird, because I've extracted while hovering on Havoc just to test it out. Maybe I wasn't quite at max height, though I'm fairly certain I've also jumped off of the nearby crates on Magma and extracted in the air. But then again I've also seen it go your way. Just bullshit wonky netcode, I guess.

I handle extraction thusly: 1) I stay in the other corner of the map, killing whatever's in my sight. 2) I get carried away killing enemies and I panic when I see the timer at 00:07 3) I do a mad dash to the LZ while simultaneously praying to all the forces of the universe 4) I hit the LZ at the last moment leaving my friends puzzled at how I magically made it to extraction yet again

Re 1, unless you jump out of the LZ that shouldn't be a problem. I routinely hover over extraction and it's never not worked. Maybe it is map-dependent? I am not sure why I would be jumping outside the map :/ lol When I get to LZ, I don't jump. Perhaps this was a bug that was fixed? It has been a while since I've failed extraction on this. But like I said, it could have been a bug fixed. Could be. All either of us have are anecdotes/personal experience, so without a larger sample it's hard to say. It could be a rare bug, a corrected bug, or maybe the game is punishing you for something. Who knows?

I've got one friend who's done the opposite a handful of times - he tries to time a charge out of the LZ such that we get full extraction even though he's not there. It doesn't always work, but it's entertaining enough that the occasional loss of the full extraction bonus has never bothered me.

I always wait as long as possible then head slowly towards the landing zone. But sometimes those fucking dogs will grab you in mid air stopping you from making it.

Hang back killing until there's about 3 seconds left on the clock & BC straight into one of the enemies at the extraction zone.
If I'm not playing a vanguard, same as ME3MP really.

I've noticed myself dying more frequently during that last 15 second mad dash to the extract. I find in PUGS (which is all I play), that often times, my teammates will have a sniper just chilling behind them, firing at me. Either they are oblivious or overwhelmed (or dumb), I often get shot in the process. It does take for a different strategy

Fuck em. Stand right next to those motherfuckers and wave goodbye. You're such a badass Lenny I do this too sometimes, except I end up dying lol. The other day though I was playing with KingTony and we agreed to sacrifice the two pugs we were playing with, cause we had zero medigel left and we really wanted to extract. So we stayed closed to the landing zone back to back, as we do best and revived each other when we died and the pugs died but damn we ended up making it, so your method does indeed work lol.
