I've been reading some very optimistic speculation that both cities are potential recipients of a MLB franchise. I'm curious because I thinks it criminal that cities like the two mentioned above and American cities like San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Memphis and Las Vegas are all very viable cities that want a MLB franchise but keep getting passed on. If you're a baseball fan and you know about those two cities, please let me know your opinion on the matter. All speculation is welcome. To be honest, I would love to see a team in Ottawa. I'd be the first one there to apply for dual citizenship and enjoy four seasons again. I'm done with these nine months of hot summers.

Montreal had the Expos from 1969-2004. I did go to Olympic stadium to see them play in 1978 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Would the people of Montreal want a return of baseball?
I wonder how the folks here in NC would like a baseball team. We already have an NFL team. And have an NHL team.

Sure this thread is a bit old but I'll post anyway. I think Montreal will get another baseball team someday (whether its the Rays or some other team). I don't know what the stadium situation is there, that would be the biggest hurdle. Montreal sells out when the Jays play there in the spring, and interest in the MLB has skyrocketed all across Canada thanks to the Jays playoff runs in 2015 and 2016. Frankly I think it would be stupid for the MLB not to capitalise on that, especially with national support dwindling in the US. Though most US markets are still very strong regionally. Rogers the multi-billion dollar corporation that owns the Jays finally realised (after owning the team for many years) that a professional sports team can be a fantastic marketing tool to push all your wares on the consumer, and when the team is good it also builds loyalty to the brand. Though it can go the other way if you are incompetent in running the team, these days with analytical info all over the place you pretty much have to bury your head in the sand to do that bad of a job (or be just plain poor). I don't see why Canada couldn't support another team.

I don't see why Canada couldn't support another team. I can see Montreal and Vancouver putting up great teams in new retractable roof stadiums. The Rogers Centre is their blueprint on how to do it right and what lessons were learned. The hotel overlook is incredible (just add mirrored windows 😉)
