If EA made a deal with Disney/Marvel instead of Lionsgate holy crap could they make some money adapting this series. It could be the next Guardians at the very least. If you think of the Reaper plot not as the beginning of the story but as the endgame (Infinity War / Justice League ) and the Normandy Ensemble as the next Avengers this opens up a world of possibilities.
Which Mass Effect character (backstory) would be the best one to kick start off a cinematic universe?
Personally I think the first in a number of parallel movie series could be about the origins of Shepard from early life to the Skyllian Blitz, N7, how he met Kaidan, etc. It would be a great platform to launch/establish the Mass Effect universe and could include b-stories and supporting cast of Kaidan, Ashley, Anderson and set up the Reaper movies and the wider franchise. Ashley could even have an Eden Prime spin-off movie prior to the Reaper movies which could be a bit Aliens (1986) with robots.
A second movie series could start with the first contact war and explain the origins of Cerberus and could feature the characters Jack Harper, Saren, Anderson, and eventually Miranda (, Jacob) & Jack who could also have spinoffs prior to the reaper movies. It could lead into the events of Revelation and an Anderson spin-off. A third movie series could feature Garrus and a supporting cast of characters like Harkin and Baily set on the citadel during the time humans first start to integrate with galactic society and establish an embassy. It could start in-medias res during the Arch-angel era and through flashbacks tell the tale of his days as a beat cop on the citadel, human friendships and rivalries and what drove him to become a vigilante. It could explore the differences and similarities in values and attitudes and cultures between the different alien societies and could feature major cameos from Tali (pilgrimage), Harkin, Wrex, Barla Von, Fist, Udina, Thane, Dr. Heart & Aria, etc.
If a Garrus movie could succeed one day I think a Wrex spin-off movie could also be fascinating. Garrus's movies could be a vehicle to explore citadel space, Wrex's adventures could be set in the Terminus. Wrex could be the Hulk of the Mass Effect franchise. The initial Lack of humans in his story could be a hard selling point but screw the timeline a bit, for the first part of the movie I'd have Wrex briefly narrating the Krogan Rebellions and detail the unravelling of Krogan society, and explaining to the audience the route of the animosity between krogans, turians and salarians nicely setting up the genophage for later films and how he ended up killing his own father and being exiled from his home-world and becoming a space mercenary for the rest of the movie. He could put together his own crew of (non Krogans) humans like Zaeed and other aliens like Bray and the rest of the movie would lead up to his infamous encounter with Aria. Perhaps have Aria start off as part of Wrex's crew and have Wrex become Aria's business partner instead of Patriach and explore her origins as well.
The Reaper movies certainly do not have to be a trilogy or necessarily play out in exactly the same way. After the events of Mass Effect 1 and between the events of Mass Effect 2 there could be a slew of other movies featuring the Normandy Ensemble. The Lair of the Shadow Broker, Leviathan & From Ashes could be adapted as standalone movies along with entirely new stories. The material of Mass Effect 2 and 3 could be expanded to trilogies. The Mass Effect extended universe is so vast in fact EA and Marvel could make Mass Effect movies for the next 30 years.
What are your thoughts on the Mass Effect series as a cinematic universe?

Most likely goes to crap. Sad to say most games don't make good movies and most movies don't make good games. Plus this gives them more impressions to play with outside media dictating lore and I can't stand that with any franchise out there.

Well technically the film has been already "announced" featuring Shepard as a adaptation, however the film as been in development hell since 2010 . The last update on the film has been according the wiki,(take with a grain salt) since 2013. I wouldn't mind a BioWare universe (or other developers with multiple games under their belt) though it doesn't have to represented as a film or anything like that. The closest we have of this is that Far Cry, Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed are in the same universe, but their more easter eggs then anything like the MCU. masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Effect_(film)

They'd be smarter to make it an animated series. It'd give them a reason to use the original VA's, or at least those who are still around, plus they could draw it out for quite a long while.
Any ME movie is going to run into the issue of picking a canon ending for the game, something EA/BW have avoided like the plaque.

It doesn't have to end as the game series did at all. Could be closer to ME:HEM than RGB. A Mass Effect Cartoon Series would be cool. Would the Morning War be a bit too heady/gritty for a kids TV show? I've got one how about The Adventures of Kasumi Goto?

To be honest, I think there is so much material in there it would be nigh on impossible to transition Mass Effect onto the big screen without losing a lot of things that make it Mass Effect. You could easily have 3 films just to do the plot of each single game, and even that might not be enough.
A prequel that starts off with finding the tech on Mars, and then fast forwarding a bit to the First Contact War I think would have a pretty good chance of making some traction. Since there is only headlines in a codex to explain what happened, therefore no set (or even varying) story/characters for us to nit-pick/be disappointed with, and also has some degree of freedom there for the filmmakers to have use of.
For the main event plots, I think it would be better suited for like a Netflix style production. Where it would get a very good budget like The Expanse does, and also not get canned after a handful of episodes like a lot of TV studios seem to do these days.

There are as many Sheps as there are players. I'm not against a ME universe film, but not one about a customisable player character.

I think if they ever were to make Mass Effect movies, the first one should be a movie adaptation of the first novel Revelation. It would introduce everything that people need to know about the ME universe and the book has a plot that could fairly easily be adapted to a movie, not too long or complex and with just the right amount of action. Also, focusing on a young Anderson, you wouldn't need to worry too much about actors that fit the roles that are already established in game so much. I actually would be really weirded out by a Mass Effect movie that follows the trilogy but has new actors for all the major characters.
EDIT: If they were to ever make a Revelation movie, I hope they won't make Ambassador Goyle a 30 year old blonde like in Andromda. Seriously, what was that about? In the book, she is described as a tough as nails older woman with the authority of age.

I prefer playing video-games to watching movies. I will not see anything that features Shepard or Ryder or any other protagonist from a game I've played or might play. I really love the co-creation process in gaming & have a possessive attitude of my characters. I don't watch other people play their characters on u-tube unless I absolutely need to see how to do this or that puzzle or pass a battle.
In short, thanks goodness the move was canned as far as I am concerned.

What are your thoughts on the Mass Effect series as a cinematic universe? Is Uwe Boll free at the moment? I mean, if we're talking bad movie then we should walk the whole mile. Here's why I think a movie or movie series would be a terrible idea. There are as many Shepards as there are players. Male, female, paragon, renegade and everything in between. I wouldn't watch anything like hat, since every attempt would end up with male, savior of the universe. Flesh Gordon comes to mind, although I'm sure they would go easy on the sex because of ratings. And as far as tv series is concerned. That could be even worse. Possibly syndicated, which in itself kills any claim at engaging storylines. Self contained and goofy is more like it. Possibly with the Raimi brothers involved, who already assassinated a lot of books and mythical figures.

I would love to see an ME movie even if it is considered crap. If done right however it would be amazing. If nothing else it will have good eye candy. Would love to see how the citadel is rendered with today's cgi. I wonder who would play Shepard.

I'd love to see the ME universe adapted using graphics on a level with Andromeda's. But starting with the First Contact War & Jack Harper's mission (but fleshing it out to make more sense), and moving all the way through Revelation to ME1, and all the way up to ME3. Animated is the way to go with this. As a tv show.

I've always thought the Mass Effect story most fit for cinemas is that of the story of Revelations. With Anderson and Saren you could have a great buddy cop drama. Heck, you could even toss in characters like Nihlus, Sanders and Udina.
I just don't think the story of the Mass Effect games, and, most importantly, Shepard, would translate to film.

While I entirely hate the idea of a Mass Effect movie, if something was going to crawl out from the depths of development hell where it belongs, I'd prefer it take a Rogue One approach and instead touch on a Mass Effect Story type deal where it stays well away from Shepard and companion characters.

The Lair of the Shadow Broker and Leviathan could be adapted as standalone movies along with entirely new stories. Mass Effect 2 and 3 could be trilogies. The Mass Effect extended universe is so vast EA and Marvel could make Mass Effect movies for the next 30 years. What are your thoughts on the Mass Effect series as a cinematic universe? The fan base isn't anywhere near large enough imo.

The fan base isn't anywhere near large enough imo. That's kind of the point of partnering a movie franchise with Disney (Marvel), to move beyond the core audience to the wider international audience of movie-going star wars, star trek, xmen, marvel fans, etc. But a built in audience of 2-4m people is more of a proof of concept and a damn good starting point to sell the idea to Disney/Marvel who are going to be in the market for something to replace the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy after Infinity War. Can you imagine the merchandise potential alone? The Garrus, Wrex, Liara & Tali lunchboxes, t-shirts, plushies, dolls, figurines, the Lego citadels and Normandys, etc. This series could be a damn goldmine in the hands of Disney. I would love to see an ME movie even if it is considered crap. If done right however it would be amazing. If nothing else it will have good eye candy. Would love to see how the citadel is rendered with today's cgi. I wonder who would play Shepard. People have such a bee in their bonnet about the lack of a defined character and how the movie shepard wouldn't fit their preconceived notions of Shepard but isn't that exactly the point? It's liberating... an absolute dream scenario for a Screenplay writer. A depiction of an interpretation of Shepard which would work for modern cinema anywhere from Captain Kirk to a gay black renegade Jewish lady. You could have Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds in space and it would still work. The original Mass Effect series absolutely could be adapted for cinema. Eden Prime, Feros, Virmire, Ilos could all be entire movies in and of themselves. Nobody in the right mind would expect the Mass Effect trilogy to be crammed into 3 movies. An original story involving the Normandy crew would work easily as well.
