While I entirely hate the idea of a Mass Effect movie, if something was going to crawl out from the depths of development hell where it belongs, I'd prefer it take a Rogue One approach and instead touch on a Mass Effect Story type deal where it stays well away from Shepard and companion characters. I agree! I would like to see first contact played out with the Turians. All the missteps that led to all-out war and how both species worked it out. I want to see first contact with the Asari and Salarians. By the time, humans come to the Citadel, they're like next to last before the Reapers arrive. What would've been like for humanity to discover an already populated Citadel with several species. All I can say is that a series that leads up to the trilogy would be awesome on Netflix or something similar. I have a 70" screen with surround sound. My home is my theater and I can eat homemade sliders and drink beer there with no issues.

I wouldn't want Disney to be behind it. Sure, I don't mind Mordin getting to sing, its part of his character, but I don't think I could cope with seeing the Normandy crew singing a rendition of "He's a Reaper!"
Musical Mass Effect is a no from me!

Can't do anything involving Shepard because Shep can be a man or woman of different ethnicities and from different backgrounds. The moment they create one for a movie, that Shep becomes the de facto Shep.
Better off just creating new characters. The universe is big. There's space for other heroes.

The value of the Mass Effect series is in the established Normandy characters. For me this was a huge reason why Andromeda did not work. Having a Mass Effect movie without Garrus, Wrex, Liara & Tali would be like having an Xmen movie without Wolverine, Cyclops, etc. I really don't mind the thought of a movie Shepard being thought of as THE cannon one. No it would be the movie cannon separate from the game one. Merely an interpretation of Shepard in the same way that each Spiderman movie is a different interpretation of Spiderman for better or worse.

Everyone of those characters (the ME ones and the X-Men) are clearly defined. Shepard isn't. Shepard is a blank canvas and can be multiple things. Is Shep male or female? Whats Shep's ethnicity? Paragon or Renegade? What class? What background? What love interest? There are just too many variables to Shepard.

I think the best way for movie studios to approach Shepard is to think of Shepard as a role (Human Spectre) more-so than a character. Let the writers, actors and directors define their own character. Different incarnations of a tv show or movie would be essentially different people with the name Shepard. It would be like watching different people role-playing as Shepard on screen as it were which would be in-keeping with series tradition.

Musical Mass Effect is a no from me! If Disney were to do it, it'd probably have a better chance of being good and have some of the best effects credits can buy. Something like Lionsgate? I'd practically guarantee it'd be cosmic trash.

I'd practically guarantee it'd be cosmic trash. Disney do things by rote. Look at Marvel, sure the films are, on the whole, good. But all of them are much the same, and I'm someone who really loves it. They find a formula that works and milk it. Disney being in control would mean we get a toned down universe that would probably lead to good films that feel repetitive. In fairness, they'd probably get parts like seeing the Citadel really great, but showing the horror of the Reapers and Collectors? The kidnappings, drug addicts, broken people, experimentation on children, terrorism, terrible disease, genocidal war, racial prejudice and very frequent killings... they'd never manage that satisfactorily.

Disagree. Mass Effect doesn't have the fanbase nor the potential for a cinematic universe, I rather a DLC universe. Leave that to Marvel cause they're the only good ones at it, unfortunately.

I already hate the marvel cinematic universe, where nobdy can die and anyone who is said to be dead is never actually dead. Because marvel does not have the balls to kill anyone except villain, they did not even had the guts to SPOILER ALERT kill phil coulson a side character of Avenger, so when they try to make me belived that nick fury was dead ... So no way I want the cinematic universe to go near the mass effect franchise.
