Now, I'm PRETTY sure the following is the case, but it's not 100% clear, so I figured I'd ask and see if anyone knows for sure.
In the Biotic passive Containment, the 5th rank has an evolution that gives 50% more combo damage to shields, and other passives that have +X% damage to all combos.
Since the Shield Detonation evolution is in the Biotic tree, it'd make sense if it applied to biotic detonations, but it says "+50% ALL Combo damage to Shields" so it implies that it applies to Fire/Cryo/Tech combos as well.
Now, I'm pretty sure that the various evolutions that state "all combo" or the like applies to any combo type, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyone know for certain? Just trying to finalize the optimization of my Sentinel build for higher levels. Thanks in advance!

However, I haven't actually tested that hypothesis either.

I have been using Incinerate->throw fire combos, and the rank five of containment as you describe. The combos are very strong, but don't seem to do much against shielded enemies.
My suspicion is that the Containment buff applies to any type of combo, but only if it has a biotic component like throw. Since throw is weak against shielded enemies, so is the combo.
Of course, that could be all wet. Just my observation. I always gunned the enemy until the shields were down, then fire comboed them.
If i'm right, then incinerate->charge would be stronger against shielded enemies.

Hmm. Thanks guys! In either case, adding more points to the Biotic tree helps with combos from Offensive Biotics, so there's that.
I generally run energy drain/incinerate/throw, and tech combos do good work vs shields, so that's not an issue. I was just curious if anyone knew for certain either way.
Appreciate the input, though!
