Did Aaaryn Flynn even work in Bioware games? In a leading capacity like Hudson? I thought he was just a PR guy that said a lot of "lies" because it was his job. He worked on Neverwinter Nights, KoTOR, Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2 and early development in Dragon Age Inquisition before taking over BioWare Studio General Management in 2012 when Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk retired. Hm, that explains why I don't see his name in the credits. I checked KoTOR and he wasn't in any leadership role.

Quite the opposite. Mass Effect was put on ice because of Andromeda disaster of a reception. The return of Casey Hudson is the type of thing that can put Mass Effect back in EA's plans. And that's even the most important aspect of his return. If MEA2 was announced yesterday, I wouldn't have been excited at all. The main reason being that I don't think Bioware has the talent to make an awesome game. Casey Hudson changes that as well. So Mass Effect is saved twice. as i said it's unknown if Casey can actually produce a great game. He still has to make up for Mass Effect 3. In my eyes Mac did with how well MEA turned out. But we don't know what Casey will do. Though i hope since he was in development that he knows what the teams need. When to push for deadlines and when to Back off. How can that be unknown? The guy was responsible for Knights of the Old Republic and all three Mass Effects. He cetainly can, and have, made great games.

Not really, Aaryn gave no reason for EA to try to get rid of him. He had successfully lead BioWare since for past 5 years. And if they wanted to get rid of him, then Anthem is up for trouble too. Which is unlikely and getting Hudson in that position wouldn't change much for Anthem, so... Yeah, it makes no sense to think EA wanted to fire Flynn for... unknown reasons. Maybe ME:A was enough of a disappointment to EA that they wanted heads to roll. Maybe ME:A was a success for EA and Flynn is just moving on. If he were fired in the way described, we would never know as Flynn wouldn't be allowed to say and EA would never tell. I'm not saying I have the answers and frankly, like ME:A DLC, we don't know at this junction. My impression of MEA is that it did well, but not as well as hoped, and especially not as well as liked. So far nothing has deterred me from this. If this is the situation, then the series (and indeed DLCs) will continue, but as resources can shift to it, and with perhaps more acceptance to staff shakeups than otherwise. Just an impression, no need to debate or insist on things.

Exactly he oversaw the whole ME trilogy and I can definitely say I thank him for that as they've become my favourite games so for that alone I have to give him a thumbs up. As I don't think I'd have been into Bioware's games if it hadn't been for that. As the ME games were the first Bioware games I played.

I'm kinda confused as well. I'm gonna wait and see...after all, with the exception of the execution of the original ME3 ending, Hudson managed to oversee a rather ambitious project. Yes, the ending didn't...work as well for some...yet he did preside over a VERY beloved series. Flynn...fact is, he spent a portion of the time before MEA launched talking up the romance scenes and...well, I'm having a difficult time remembering what else he really talked about. With the reaction to the base MEA, I'm not surprised that he has left (or was ASKED to leave, ahem) as MEA was/is rather controversial. Still, even though I'm still loving the games...REALLY mixed feelings...ya know? Is this good or bad for ME? Hudson is back, but will he do anything to revive/save Mass Effect? Or is he just back for Anthem? Yeah, not liking the uncertainty... As Ryder says about the AI, everything is uncertain. And yes, Aaryn's main focus at launch was the romances and the issue with Jaal and Gil. He also gave us the Sara trailer and likely was the one who made Jaal bi. He gave in to a lot of demands on Twitter. I doubt Hudson would go as far as he did, so they likely brought the guy with the tougher skin in. Nothing bad against Aaryn, but his heart was for the fans more than anything else and it caused more trouble than good. Fair point. He was a 'fans' kinda guy. Some of the changes (or fixes would be more appropriate?) did work well, and its good that they are shown as listening to the fan base. Still, he was about when MEA tumbled and fell. WHATEVER was going on with MEA, he was the General Manager...his job was on the line. Casey Hudson as GM...still kinda mixed on that. His focus will be spread, which might be good...but is Anthem his priority? Gotta wonder...not so worried about Dragon Age...they still seem to have a good team behind them...and support...worried about Mass Effect.

Should I be doing a happy dance or facepalming? Someone tell me how I should feel about this... I'm not even sure what a general manager would do at Bioware. A little of everything? Gotta lol at the change of tone here tho. If Casey came back 3 yrs ago you guys would have been so mad. People wanted Casey to be fired after the ME 3 endings. XD Not me, ME3 was a good game.

Patches restore or add content. Fan demands are good and bad. Carry on, I'm sure you will.

Anthem is the next in line for promotion, then DA4 and when asked if he was only for Anthem or ME, Gamble said everything. Well, that's something...at least they didn't say 'SOON'. The word practically gives me PTSD at this point. Still, maybe they can wrangle something up for MEA to get the series moving again. Seems sluggish at the moment...so not bad, I guess. Think I'll play ME1 in the meantime...still haven't gotten that Renegade trophy.

The guy who dreamt up the ME3 ending, and the whole "let's go to Andromeda" thing coming back is a good thing?
With co-responsible Mac Walters still there.
Why should this be good?

Because...at least he DID something. Hudson WILL get things moving. Love or hate him, he'll make a call and stick to it. I like MEA, but the ending kinda...just...was there. ME3 may have gotten a negative reaction, but anger is better than apathy. AND they were willing to put up the EC to (sorta) smooth things over.

This news feels very eerily similar to the recent news that Impact Wrestling co-founder Jeff Jarrett was returning to retake command of the company he co-founded with his father and had the financial the backing of company called ironically enough Anthem Entertainment, after Dixie Carter, the woman that took over the company pretty much ran it into the ground. This in some ways feels like a message to fans that "BioWare/EA hear your complaints and hope that firing Flynn and re-hiring Casey Hudson will make you love us again" just like Anthem Entertainment is trying to get Impact Wrestling/GFW to love them again "by saying look we got rid of Dixie Carter and rehired Jeff Jarrett please love us again" Plus Jarret has stated that he wants to get a GFW video game made. Please Dear God in Heaven don't let EA anywhere near a wrestling game ever again, I mean WCW Backstage Assault was the WORST video game I've every had the misfortune to play. TNA/Impact/GFW or whatever they want to go by now would've died over ten years ago if Dixie hadn't been funneling her Panda bucks into it as a vanity project tho. Not that she could manage it worth shit, but it's not like it was some huge success going from strength to strength before she came along to ruin everything. And fortunately the only wrestling game anyone will ever need again just went into early access a week ago: store.steampowered.com/app/564230/Fire_Pro_Wrestling_World/As for the Bioware news: holy shit what the fuck? Those are two pretty damn huge bombshells to drop at once. Nice to see Casey make his way back, he's responsible for a lot of my favorite experiences in gaming. Sad to see Aaryn go, he always seemed like a cool dude. True but Dixie Carter did a lot of stupid things as well hiring that piece of shit Vince Russo a writer so bad that fans would chant "Fire Russo!" at shows and when she finally fired that bum, Spike TV (who was also paying a lot of the bills for the company) told her they would cancel their show if he ever came back and when they found Carter was paying Russo under the table and when that moron outed himself Spike TV canceled the show. She got them a deal on Destination America which failed because she made promises she couldn't keep and then she pissed off a lot of her major "home grown" talent by constantly hiring former WWE stars and not promoting them, and even some of them hated her guts Bully Ray has publicly stated that he hated Dixie Carter the first time he met her and only signed with them because Jarrett was there and he and his tag team parter Devon need a job he was offered a contract after Anthem Entertainment bought the company but refused because she was still there in a figurehead role and signed with Ring of Honor. Then she got them on Pop TV and she conned Billy Corgan out a lot of money and got sued by him, Anthem Entertainment, and another company. When the dust settled and Anthem Entertainment won control, they knew she had to go and get someone with some brains like Jeff Jarrett. Jeff Jarrett is not the greatest owner/promoter/wrestler not by a long shot but he's got a great eye for talent including finding and hiring guys like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, CM Punk, Bobby Roode, and Eric Young just to name a few that been in TNA/Impact/GFW over the years and they are finding success in the WWE and other promotions. Jarrett is also working other international promotions to bring in fresh talent.

And as i said given how badly they fumbled certain aspects of ME 3. I'm not necessarily going to greet this news with open enthusiasm. Especially since this comes with the loss of Flynn which had a history of being a good manager.

And that maybe due to EA paying reviewers off. Admittedly I never really followed stories around ME3 at the time, but is it more than a maybe? No. It's just an excuse when not agreeing with the consensus. There is no large scale "publishers paying off critics". Don't believe what some disgruntled people on forums write.

The moment when a games journalist was invited to voice a character that was when people became suspicious. Obviously he never saw the cozy relationship every publisher had with a majority of gaming news. No, it was kosher. GameStop, Game Informer, etc. we're above board. Hahaha. It was a running joke for years.

What's confusing me is that people saying that he's back to 'save' mass effect (and even return to the milky way, Jesus let it go people) - well he's the reason Andromeda had to happen, as he basically ended the series.
Deliberately too; a real burn the house down job.
Fickle, that's what you all are.
