WARNING: FILM ANALYSIS ALERT!
So my family and I recently watched Bird Box and thought it was good. Not phenomenal, but good. The part we all collectively disliked though how was confusing this monster or affliction works. While I appreciate the movie’s decision not to SHOW the monster (something I think A Quiet Place could’ve benefit), the rules were inconsistant, with some people killing themselves when they see it and others going crazy and trying to get others to see. And we couldn’t tell why it’s one or the other.
This made me realize that if anybody was making a horror movie, there needs to be three solid rules to follow:
1. Your protagonists need to have an identifiable goal, be it to defeat the monster, solve a mystery, get to a safe place, or get out of the place alive.
2. You need an identifiable threat. Not just what is after the protagonist, but HOW it threatens the protagonist. For example, if Dracula gets you, you become a vampire, or how the Alien can crawl through the ventilation and be anywhere on the ship. And keep it simple (not like the recent Mummy which could either make you invincible, a ghost, or a possessed zombie.)
3. You need an identifiable weakness. If there’s a smudge on of hope that your characters could get out alive or kill the monster, then there’s suspense.

A new Ghostbusters movie is in development for release on 2020. And I personally think this is the real Ghostbusters film fans wanted. It's directed by Jason Reitman (the son of the OG Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman) and is apparently set up as a proper sequel to the two original films.

We need a good "Swashbuckler" film again. This movie is one of my all-time favorites (it has the action, the fun, the romance, and another fantastic score by the late great composer, James Horner): <iframe width="21.08000000000004" height="31" style="position: absolute; width: 21.08000000000004px; height: 31px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 5px; top: 35px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_67349306" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="21.08000000000004" height="31" style="position: absolute; width: 21.08px; height: 31px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 986px; top: 35px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_85478654" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="21.08000000000004" height="31" style="position: absolute; width: 21.08px; height: 31px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 5px; top: 1503px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_40430618" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="21.08000000000004" height="31" style="position: absolute; width: 21.08px; height: 31px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 986px; top: 1503px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_79814725" scrolling="no"></iframe>

So... I wanted VERY much to love this flick. But, I didn't. I didn't hate this flick but it was somewhat disappointing. Something about the ending was not satisfying 7/10

I managed to finally see Bad Times at the El Royale and I personally found the movie quite enjoyable. I mean sure, some of the twists weren't really that surprising, and there were quite a lot things set up but never go anywhere which was annoying. But despite all of that, the performances were very strong, I liked the cinematography, the sound design, the editing. Plus, this movie somehow managed to convince me that Chris Hemsworth can be creepy! That's an accomplishment!

Watched Glass a couple of nights ago.
I'd heard pretty bad things and went in with quite low expectations. Turns out, I liked it a lot. In typical Sham-hammer style, though, he got clever one time too many (meaning; one "twist" too many).
Without the final one, I would've loved it, I think. Hell, without either one of the last two twists, I would have loved it. Even with the over-twistiness, I liked it. A...fitting, I guess, end to the trilogy that started with Unbreakable.

Some critics need to get off their high horse. Just because they're paid to share their feelings about something, doesn't mean their opinions are better than ours.No matter how many times you shit on art, there will always be fans. Every form of art has it's fans & critics. There are some decent people out there who probably despise moves like Citizen Kane, or Casablanca, and that's okay. What's unfortunate is our instinct to judge the vocal minority when it comes to art. For example. For example, critics recently gave Alita: Battle Angel a mixed to negative response. Maybe fans of the source material will too, but not without judging the minority (who liked/loved the movie) unfairly. This goes for a majority of people who love a film attacking a more negative minority, as well.
As for Alita: Battle Angel, I've never read the manga, or watched the OVA, but critics are destroying it, just like Ghost in the Shell almost 2 years ago. I blame myself for visiting Rotten Tomatoes. Honestly, I need to avoid that site as much as possible. Though only a percentage, I'm not a fan of seeing movies represented by a number. It plays with your mind. I see a rotten number for a film I'm interested in seeing, and I'm upset. I see a higher score, and I'm excited. There's a sense of dread, meaning that if I were to like a film with mostly mixed-negative reviews, I'll be in a vocal minority (with a fear of people in the majority judging the hell out of you, and question your taste & sometimes your own intelligence), which...let's face...isn't fun when it comes to art. I miss the days when I read little to no reviews, and I saw movies left & right... all out of pure anticipation (without any kind of concern for whether a movie will be praised, or despised).

I somewhat agree, somewhat disagree. I appreciate that everybody has a chance to voice their own opinion, and movie critics do have an obligation to address their thoughts and feelings towards a movie based on their experience with movies as well as their personal enjoyment. That said though, if there's a movie I have an interest in or a personal liking for, I tend to avoid the negative reviews so I don't feel like I'm making a wrong choice. That said though, I also respect when a certain movie has it's faults, it just matters on what the movie does that makes me forget those faults.

I just watched this. While I enjoyed it I have no fucking clue what happened. There's no definitive ending but it in know way calls for a sequel. I know it's not exactly meant to be understood but I still want to know what the ending means.

Has anyone scene a movie called "The Barefoot Contessa?" It was a film released in 1954 starring Humphrey Bogart & Ava Gardner. The reason why I'm bringing it up is because it amazes me that this movie (in a lot of scenes) does not look like one created in the 50's. The cinematography makes the film look as though it were filmed decades later. I feel the same way with films like Rebel Without A Cause, Dr. Strangelove, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I have no idea how this was achieved.

In the not-too-distant future, a tenuous peace between humans and remarkably humanlike “machines”—some don’t even know they’re not real—is tested when synthetics begin spontaneously exploding. A military-led search for these unwitting suicide bombers begins, sending a terrified machine woman and her human partner on the run. An Arab refugee woman tries to find her way to safety in the aftermath of a massive war. That war was with our Machine Creations. She discovers that she is a suicide sleeper bomb, embedded in the human population years ago, and has lived without knowledge of what she actually is. Her soldier husband must now help her get to the Machine Homeland, deep within the Arabian desert, before its too late, hunted by human forces who believe she is a spy bringing vital information to the enemy. ***** I saw a familiar face. ***** Short film based on Tom Godwin's The Cold Equations published in 1954. A pilot is on an emergency mission to a planet whose colony is doomed if he doesn't reach them. He has just enough fuel to get there - then he finds he has a stowaway, a young girl wanting to be with her brother on the colony. If the pilot jettisons her through the airlock, the ship will barely make it to a landing on the planet. If he does not, the ship will crash and both of them as well as the colony will die. What will he do?

What did i just watched? This looks way different from the first, more dark(i think i read that it will be somewhere long ago). Although i was skeptical at first with the plot summary, i like what i'm seeing here. Still i'll have to wait and see more stuff.

I've been a fan of Frozen ever since I first saw it on opening day in 2013, and I'm really excited for this sequel not just because it's a sequel to Frozen, but also because it's taking the direction I kind of wanted to see Frozen do for a long time. I wanted my Frozen sequel to dive deeper into the mysteries of the land of Arendelle and really dig into the limits of Elsa's magic, maybe even test the bond that Elsa and Anna have. This whole trailer is actually giving me Tangled The Series vibes, which is also a sequel to Tangled that took the story towards a more epic, mystery driven story compared to the actual movie.

As for alita: battle angel, i too haven't see anything from the anime but i'm looking forward to see it.
