As I am awaiting parts from NewEgg.com to build my Frostbite rig, I came across this video from Joker Productions. He went into detail regarding the high prices (my original order for an EVGA W/C 1080ti was $1099 just a month ago. Now it's $899.) because of the high demand for high-end GPUs this past summer. Ethereum miners were buying up GPUs and exhausting the supply. That ethereum bubble burst and now inventories are being stabilized. However, there is a caveat. A lot of the GPUs that are now on sale already have a lot of mileage and who knows how well they were maintained during these hot summer months. So, if you see a 1080ti for about $650 on eBay or Amazon, be really wary. If you're an AMD fan, the savings are even more significant, but again beware. I do expect (my speculation is hot right now) that prices will drop even further once AMD and Intel go head to head with competing lines this fall.
PS: I know the forums are filled with tech demigods, but this is for those that are like me... love the hobby, but smart enough to be 'dangerous.'
Also, I can't say enough thanks to those that helped me the build the rig. All of you are amazing.

Good post. Never hurts to spread a little knowledge.
In truth, I haven't been paying attention to this recent price boom. But I'm glad I didn't go and start building my new rig just yet.

Lucky I got my Aorus Xtreme 1080 ti at its retail price back in April before all of this.
It is a Horrible time to buy/build a gaming PC. Ram and SSD prices have spiked as well.

Supposedly some GPU manufacturers are jumping on the ethereum mining bandwagon and are developing special cards for said purpose. ( a " bit " to late maybe ? ) A local retailer had one Special Edition GPU left for about 442 USD. Lucky me. Still using socket 1150, the plan is to splurge on a new rig in a few years. Surely Nvidia will have released new hardware by then.
