Does anyone not use the straight up +% damage increase barrel mods on their guns? It's boring, and honestly feels required for one of the weapon mod slots. I would love to see them give all weapons a flat ~10% damage increase across the board, and simply remove +damage increase barrel mods. that way we can use more interesting combinations, like accuracy + magazine, or penetration + scope.

Agreed!
This is game design 101. Bake the +damage in the gun / power / character ability whatever, because players will ALWAYS take +damage over everything else.

I agree although in principle when leveling and especially before buying "gold" packs, etc. there is more motivation for variety...

Since I don;t do a lot of research into the numbers of this game i have no clue how beneficial things like accuracy mods.

Barrel extensions should have come with a mobility and/or slight ROF penalty to make not taking it a viable option. That's how things work IRL anyway.

I don't always put on that barrel mod. I really hate not being able to shoot through cover, so the receiver is always my first choice. If I feel a gun could use more ammo or if I play a melee-fähig character, I opt for the ammo clip and melee respectively and won't use the barrel...

I remember back when COD first removed stopping power and people were pissed.
Then you realized that the only perk people would use in that set was stopping power. Removing it, allowed for a greater flexibility.... but I would then just gravitate to the penetration & ammo clip mods for most guns.

I honestly don`t see removing barrel making modding more interesting.
People will still just take mandatory clip size mod anyway. (or smartchoke on shotgun)
Is it really better?

Remove all mandatory mods and bake those into the weapons.
+damage +clip_size +accuracy / smart_choke
OK, now we have super strong weapons (but no stronger than what they were in actual play with the old mods)... what INTERESTING mods can we add?

Maybe one that when you shoot people it heals you, or when you headshot someone they explode. Wait....

I think so, because i wouldn't necessarily use the same combination of mods for each weapon. magazine mods are great for alot of ARs and pistols, but you could tailor your mod combos to your specific kit and weapon. e.g. targeting + receiver for revenant (which already has a huge clip) for use on a tsol. or if you take accuracy EVOs in your skills, you could swap the targeting mod for magazine.

I just think with current mods we have... having damage barrel actually make us think more about how to use second slot. If there is no damage barrel.. filling those two mod slots would be really no brainer... Sometimes I don`t even use barrel. Like on my H.Vanguard. Ruzad(Siphon)/choke/melee..

I always said damage mods were dumb, in ME3 and here in MEA. I mean, make the gun deal decent damage and be done with it, there's no need to ad a magic barrel that somehow increases the damage. And it's a balance issue, because what if a gun was already good enough? with the mod on it'd be TOO good, so then they come back and nerf stuff on a whim because they added some dumb mod that shouldn't have been added to begin with. GOD DAMMIT.

How about:
+ Bleed damage over time + Damage to shields or armor + % power damage (ME3 had such a mod) + Special ammo types, in lieu of consumable boosters

It's my understanding that all +x% damage adjustments are additive, so there's very much a diminishing returns thing here, once you have enough other weapon damage bonuses. The problem, of course, is finding other mods worth equipping.

Nah, they should add a 4th variant for every weapon with pink colors and a 3rd mod slot
This is a joke, please Bioware, don't do it or they'll kill me

I don't use the barrel on guns I want to prime with, on melee kits, and when it doesn't come with a big enough clip. Effectively I use it half the time.
