Unpopular opinion #2:
Frosting is disgusting. It ruins perfectly delicious cake with its cloying, sticky nastiness. It makes perfectly sane people turn to pie and cheesecake for dessert solace.

Then there's the badly-made, gritty crap some people pretend is frosting...

What you're probably talking about is American buttercream frosting. It's that thick, heavy stuff that has the consistency and texture of toothpaste and yes, more often than not, it is sickeningly sweet and ruins the cake.

Whipped frosting, however, can be perfectly delicious.

Nothing beats a good Apple Pie. 

God damn, I need one now. Or a New York-style cheesecake.

Whipped cream (sugared ofcourse) > frosting.

When I bake cakes (which I often do) I add a little almond extract, and it makes cakes awesome

I dont like frosting toooooooo much, but it depends on how I feel... sometimes I love it, sometimes I cant stand it... usually with cakes ill either pour melted chocolate over the top of it, leave it plain make lemon cakes or something like that which need no frosting

But yeah, almond extract is like my favorite ingredient in lots of things I bake

Almonds are great, but there might be circumstances where hazel- or cashewnuts or whatever give a better result.

By the way, pistachenuts are the best. Pistache icecream is superb! Then again, so is stuff like marzipan, or almondpaste rolls...

I think your working theory is pretty sound! Personally I would add bacon and garlic to it, and in case of bakery products: lemon/lime zest. 

Dutch traditional "slagroomtaart" (whipped cream pie/cake) is usually conserved frozen, and defrosted before use.

In other appliances the cream is usually served 'on top' fresh whipped.

This thread has taken an interesting turn. I love cake, pie, cookies, and stuff. I like making them but I usually don't have the time.
But when I do I like to experiment a bit. This almond-tip is a good one!
Also the different baking techniques from all around the world can prove interesting.

I don't mind making them but I am usually too lazy.

Calling my woman Stella "disgusting" is a quick way to become foes with me I'd have you know.

I prefer men who hail from an angry orchard, personally.
