May I present to you, the unpopular opinions thread! Its pretty simple, really, let me start with an example: Unpopular opinion #1: I think the bench press is a horribly overrated exercise and not a good indicator for upper body strength. Unpopular opinion #2: Many women would look better with a short haircut. Long hair is completely overrated. Now you!

The commercial/mainstream media exist to make us uncomfortable with our status quo. Whether it is politics "The incumbent is a sleazy stupid jerk" to fashion "You need new clothes. Red is so last year." to appearance "You're too fat/ You have fat in just the wrong place/ You are too short" they try to get us to change our clothing, furniture, politics or even food in pursuit of a chimerical set of goals.

I have not worn a suit since I was 3-4 yrs old and never will again. Find them too hot and restrictive, especially for my extremely sensitive skin. Also I do not find aesthetically pleasing.
I also do not find skirts, dresses, and lingerie sexy at all. Just meh to me.

Lets see if I get banned for this:
I honestly don't believe gay marriage should be called marriage. Makes it a bit awkward to talk to my friend, given how he recently got engaged to his boyfriend.
That said, that's my only disagreement with that new law. I like the idea of sharing rights between married couples. Healthcare, death benefits, child adoption, child care. I'm cool with all of that, gay or strait couples.
My opinion is just the title.

For all the negativity it breeds in social culture, it is, IMO, nothing next to stagnation and complacency.

I didn't mind the SW Prequels. I didn't mind the ME3 ending.
I'll probably think of something more pertinent later.

I am a moral/ethical subjectivist and relativist.
I believe that a Platonian Republic or Aristocracy is the greatest form of government.
I believe in the mandate for practical (not inherent) superiority of the United States in global affairs, and that we must take the mantle of being the global leader in a cooperative, multilateral, global system. That said, I do believe that we do not often live up to this mandate, and that we do not act as professionally or charismatically as we should.
I think weightlifters (both power-lifters and body-builders are generally a bunch of meatheads that couldn't hack it in practical/applied situations such as the military (no offense OP). I do not view weightlifters (in the mentioned areas) as engaging in practical exercise or fitness.
I believe in the rational dehumanization of the human psyche to become more technical, logical, and fact-driven. I do not believe that this means inherently discarding our humanity (our emotions and feelings), but that we know how and when to set them aside.
I believe that most liberal arts degrees and artistic pursuits are not entirely beneficial nor comparable to real sciences or applied trades. That's not to say that we should get rid of them; I do believe however that a great society of great thinkers is based on science (including social sciences) and technology, not art and humanities, and that imagination works best when it furthers human capability instead of fostering itself for its own sake.

Oosh, where do I begin fam?
Let's start with a simple one.
I believe that pop culture is making a big mistake by demonising the traditional family unit/relationship as a means of making alternative lifestyles feel more included.
I don't even mean LGBT honestly. I'm thinking more normalisaion of divorce, polygamy (open relationships), promotion of hookup culture, holding off on settling down, etc. I think modern life has done a lot of damage to the social organisation (the family unit) that has been the cornerstone of growth for each major civilisation in history. The desire to "work hard and improve my lot for my children" is disappearing for more abstract "I need to make humanity better" or more materialistic "I want more money" motivations. We're already seeing it with the damage the Baby Boomers at the top have done for the futures of Millennials. Even on a personal level, the growing trend for baby boomers is to spend wealth for themselves in retirement instead of passing it onto their children.
It'll get worse if things continue as they are.

Narcissism is the great social and psychological disorder of our modern age. It seems to be most endemic in my country. So go USA? We're number one?
I firmly believe in freedom of speech, but actors really should never say anything unless it is scripted for them. This is particularly true for anything other than acting or whatever project they are working on.

I do not view weightlifters (in the mentioned areas) as engaging in practical exercise or fitness. Then you'd be wrong, I'm a powerlifter/strongman and I was in the military. Basic training then served in the NBC corps for a while. No problems whatsoever, especially first aid combat drills that meant lifting and carrying geared-up fellow soldiers around was super easy, as were pushups and marching with heavy gear. Thats was absolutely nothing compared to the weights I use in training. Also in terms of practical strength, you'd be wrong as well. When I moved being able to lift washing machines and heavy furniture out of the truck and up/downstairs without having to ask any neighbors for help was great. Practical strength is the whole idea behind strongman. Super unpopular opinion: I think death metal and its sub-genres with all its growls and juvenile texts is as childish as it is embarrassing.

I think Solas was a bigger villain than Corypheus.
I don't think Jerry Seinfeld was ever funny.
Reality TV is a plague upon the world.
The U.S. was right to drop the atomic bombs on Japan.
That's all I can think of now. I will no doubt have more later.

Two more: Narcissism is the great social and psychological disorder of our modern age. It seems to be most endemic in my country. So go USA? We're number one? Narcissism is generally seen as a negative quality, but it's also important when you look at how the psyche of some of the most successful people function. For example, I don't think I could have gotten where I was today if not for my narcissism. I often equate it with rampant pride. Sure, I may be borderline humorless and too serious, but then again, I'm also the type that kicks things into high gear and is willing to throw everything down and take a (calculated) risk for the sake of my own pride too. It makes me strive to be greater and excellent; I want to be better than everybody else. I want to be the hero, the captain, the man leading the cause. That drive, when directed and trained right, can be your greatest ally and skill. Think of it like fire; it burns, inherently, and is dangerous, inherently, but if you control it, master it, it can be one of your most valuable tools/traits. There is always the danger of losing control and getting burned, but you also make so much more possible with it. That's what I think we Americans should do with our narcissism and pride; not get rid of it and risk becoming, as I see it (another unpopular opinion) as complacent as most of the rest of the world, but to refine it and use it to push for greater advancements. It was our narcissism and pride which took us to the moon after all. Nobody else has done that yet. That's what I think we should be focusing on. If anything, what we lack is long-term vision; that's the key to mastering pride. Give it a goal and watch us go to work.

Practical strength is the whole idea behind strongman. Someone got offended quickly. The goal is to put more emphasis on cardiovascular robustness and being able to build endurance, not through weight training completely, but through applied techniques and skill that you outlined. You don't need to be a weightlifter at all to be able to accomplish all of that with ease. There are easier techniques that you can apply with minimal weight training skills that make the sorts of weight-lifting you do redundant. I still don't see it, honestly. You emphasize working harder. I believe in working smarter. Dexterity and cardio health are much more important in that aspect. Which, to be honest, I credit more to your conditioning in the military than your training with weights.
