bsn.boards.net/thread/461/wrongthink-thread-politicsJust saying Anyhow, unpopular opinion (might be popular I dont have a clue ive never spoken to anyone about it) I REALLY hate the look of people who have had plastic surgery and botox... like if you get plastic surgery for a medical reason sure thats fine but when you see people and they just look... fake I guess.... noooooooooooo thank you... would never date anyone with a fake like anything really... a prosthetic limb or something like that I have zero problem with (just for clarification)... but its boob jobs, nose jobs, botox... things like that... would never date anyone who has had them It should be no surprise to anyone that the Unpopular Opinions thread also includes unpopular political opinions, so your linking of the Politics thread is rather frivolous at best. As for your post, I wouldn't classify that as an "unpopular" opinion, but more of an inconsistent one (not to mention your incorrect usage of ellipses). You start off by saying that you "hate the look of people who have had plastic surgery and botox....", which is then followed with "...if you get plastic surgery for a medical reason sure (sic) thats (sic) fine...". Which you then follow with sentences reaffirming your original statement that also have the effect of nullifying the stipulation for medical reasons. The inclusion of people with prosthetic limbs is also quite baffling as that doesn't equate to plastic surgery. Sure, it counts as "fake looking", but it's not even in the same ballpark. If your post were to be simplified it would translate to something like this: "I hate the look of people with plastic surgery, but I'm fine with it for medical reasons. However, I still wouldn't date anyone that had them regardless of their reasoning's for having them".
When theres a thread designed for unpopular political opinions, unpopular political opinions should be in the unpopular political opinion thread and not in this one... unless of course theres some kind of logic behind having 2 threads to talk about the same things??? also theres a difference between the opinions most people have posted here and what was said in the posts I originally quoted... so keeping political/social opinions to the right thread may be for the best??? They are 2 different threads and I think they should be kept separate... theres literally no sense in talking about the same things in 2 different threads when theres a special thread designed FOR things like that
Noooo it isnt inconsistent... just to explain... your interpretation was that the last part overrides the part about 'fine for medical reasons'. The last sentence was just like a sweeping statement but the 'fine for medical reasons' part takes priority in a sense so uh just to clarify... "I would date someone who had plastic surgery for medical reasons no problem, but id never date someone who had plastic surgery without needing it" basically So um sorry for the misinterpretation

I personally think that elective plastic surgery is seen as "ok" because there guiding us towards the holy grail of electing to get cybernetic augmentations (because there not much different in an ethics sense) public perception of plastic folks is that they should of paid a few quid more and gotton something that looks natural ..... i'm not idealogically opposed to people getting such augmentations ot their natural self, I just wouldn't date someone so shallow and self obsessed that they actually got surgery to change their body in such a way, on the other hand medical need I have no problem with, no oddly do I mind tattoos which are just another form of augmenting the body. oh and if someone offered me the chance to have all the broken stuff in my body replaced with enhanced cybernetic versions I might taken them up on it but it would depend on the situation/

I have no problem with it like morally... you can do what you want with your own body, but the shallow thing applies with me also and although I find personality massively more important than how someone looks... I just dont find like fake-ness attractive in a way... again that wouldnt apply to medical needs because theres a difference between surgery by necessity and surgery by choice I guess and it would change how id see the person
I wouldnt personally... but eh thats probably just me being me... the thought of surgery worries me let alone being replaced by robotic pieces also

Gen, you're awesome, even if you don't know it, but...
Your sentence structure and grammar drives me insane. I'm not the most acute poster with grammar myself as I'm sure some people will point out (at least in these informal posts where you really don't need to be all the time), so I know I'm not one to talk.
But Lorn's right: you use the ellipses wrong, and you really need to lay off the emoji's.

well when its already not working and causing a lot of pain there's not really any risk, it might not work but that's not really a risk, the only actual danger is of something going wrong and you not waking up, well that's going ot happen at some point anyhow and theres worse ways to die than when your asleep, so agains not really a problem to worry about. so becoming better than ever isn't really a downside, but in reality that's not likely to be possible for another decade or two so its not alike I would need to make a decision on the fly :XD

Im also scared of dying in my sleep. So it isnt so good for me I dont think.
Im not sure. Id prefer something like an Ironman suit rather than some kind of robotic surgery personally. I could always take off the suit if something goes wrong but I couldnt rip out part of myself.

ahh so you have yet to realise that being scared of the inevitable is pointless and more likely to cause it to happen sooner instead of later / I understand what you mean about the suit idea, but there no use if your injured and bits of your body already don't work, ive had several operations already in an effort to retain some limited useability of my legs and left arm and they have had some limited success, but its not pain free and everythgin I do has a cost, so for me a suit no matter how advanced would be useless, the only viable option is replacement parts, fortuantly though if you do get cybernetics there going to be overdesigned with upgrades in mind so say your leg /arm malfunctions well you just eject it and plug in the replacement, if the socket breaks your going back under the knife, I don't mind that sort of thing to be honest although i'd much rather a replacement part that say works better than the original, I mean I could run 30 miles in a few hours but it would be cool to get upgraded and be able to do that in an hour or less even better if I can do it without searing agony, so I wouldn't mind such an option

Being scared of dying makes me kinda want to live and thats kinda necessary for me I think. There is no reason to be scared of death. If dying means ceasing to exist than there is nothing to worry about because you didn't exist for more than 13 billion years. Then you are born and your lifetime is not even a blink of an eye in the grand scheme of things. Then you go back to your pre-birth state, probably for eternity. So basically you were dead for 13 billion years so how bad can it be, lol. I sure as hell haven't heard any complaints from the dead so far so its probably awesome!

yeah I get that, everyone thinks of things differently, I suppose I got comfortable with my own mortality the first time I died when I was a kid and had to be brought back after drowning in a river, and to my knowledge I've been resuscitated 4 other times (there's a good chance its happened more times than that I just don't know about them) but I've never been worried about dying on a personal level, I just figured I'd do something good and maybe take some undesirables with me (so I joined the army and ended up a cripple 20 years later, go figure) I have a wife and 4 kids so I have plenty to live for despite the things that are wrong with my body I don't think if I had my time over a gain I would change anything I mean if I did I wouldn't be who I am, so whilst like all good soldiers/veterans I like to moan about aspects of my life especially when the weather is bad generally speaking i'm ok, besides I always have new things to test myself against in the ever impressive game of adapt and overcome

If we ever get to the point where sentient (fully self aware, feeling) machines are a reality, those machines should be given the same rights as humans.

Humans are animals and that's a fact. I'm feeling ambivalent about this. We have some very unique qualities and abilities that sets us apart from animals, on the other hand we have our very animalistic moments. I'd still say we're not animals, we're too intelligent to be in the same category as say a mouse. The difference is too big. We've gone to the moon, discovered mathematics, can make accurate predictions, we create art, have made pictures of atoms, we're working creating our own version of intelligence, cloned living beings. All a mouse does is gather food, breed and live in a little burrow. Physically we may share the same concept and we also share some basic instincts. Thats where the similarities end and a vast VAST section of differences begins. If there was a category I'd file the humans under the ''advanced species'' section.
