I hate to ask basic questions, but the wiki is useless and the BSN search function is nearly useless.
I started playing multiplayer last week. What are siphon weapons? Or those other categories? Does the sniper rifle still hit with half damage when hip fired? When an MP equipment gives 20% more damage to combat powers, are those the powers in the SP combat tree?
My impression so far is that if I want to play several kinds of characters with decent guns, it's going to be a long, long, long grind up the ladder. Worse than ME:MP. Twenty ranks for each character times what, 20 characters? Times all the weapon ranks. Frack me.

Concussive weapons cause explosions on headshot kills. Bulwark (?) weapons grant you extra damage resistance, and they stack if teammates are near. They also won't unlock until you have the base weapon at X. Time for me to get on my soapbox. It's a lazy way for developers to say they're giving us new content, when they're really giving us 3 new mods in literally the most amateur programming way possible (coming from a software developer). It's the reason I've moved onto other games. I really want to like this games and they've done a lot of things that improved on ME3, but they've also screwed the pooch pretty hard in other areas that makes the game nowhere near as fun. It's a shame because I think the developers really tried to make a fun game. And rant. Hope I answered your question.

There is a hip fire penalty for all but three snipers (naladen is one, can't remember the others) but it's not 50%. Maybe 20%?
The powers are all still divided into combat, biotics and tech. On your character's skill selection screen you'll see that each active ability icon is in a coloured circle: red for combat, purple for biotics and yellow for tech. The passives are in triangles.
Edit: and yeah, grindy-grind-grind-grindy-grind.

Not really, you can max common human characters and some decent uncommon/common guns like raptor and charger probably within about 20 hours or even less than that depending on when you decide to jump up to gold. Other guns/characters are really locked behind the wall, need some heavy luck to get something decent. But all basic characters are very good, certainly easier to play than a lot of rare and UR.

Vanguards and sentinels are gold worthy very fast. Lvl 8-10 with a couple rankpoints earns you 11 basic packs without too much struggle. Silver weapons are ok on gold, as long as you don't rely on their dps too much. Buy basic packs until you have all common to X, then advanced till you have all classic guns X, then premium packs until you have good enough guns, then reserve packs. Higher grade packs will drop the lower cards as well, so it's more effective to take this approach in your condition. Also don't hesitate to treat yourself to a arsenal pack between 10 or so common packs, if you're playing gold. The satisfaction of getting stuff that's 'out of your league' is great, and ur drops give great momentum.

There is one Uncommon weapon that surprised me; the Incisor. Incisor and N7 Valkyrie are both burst-fire weapons and there is a big rarity gap between them; but Incisor 10's damage per shot is only 5% low compared to N7 Valkyrie 10, and thanks to its 3-burst the Incisor has better DPS Burst if you land all the shots. And if Incisor's initial shot lands on the target's chest, it is almost guaranteed that you will score a headshot on the third shot due to its recoil climb. Using this natural climb may be somewhat awkward against Remnants because their weakspots are placed at lower torso. But then, just make sure that the first shot scores a headshot so you will always get one headshot per burst no matter what. The shortcomings that hold this rifle back are the small clip size for 3-burst and a heavy weight. But for an Uncommon weapon? I would say it is definitely worth the investment, and is quite usable in Gold. I would suggest using the Incisor with Infiltrators who have their Tactical Cloak upgraded to damage boost. It's not full-auto, so Rate of Fire bonus from Turbocharge doesn't help that much. Raptor would be better in conjunction with Turbocharge.
