The nice-looking site Prestacious has been so generously hosting for us is actually a nightmare to work with. He doesn't know this, because he doesn't work with it. I work with it. I tried to negotiate a move to another platform, first when the site was being created, and again in 2018. thats too bad, retrospectively, would have been great to move to a friendlier hosting right away, but i guess it was complicated and maybe prez intended to keep updating or stay involved at first

I thought I would finish the update during the weekend, but I only processed 200 out of 500 submissions (no exaggeration, that's what happens when the HoFs aren't updated for half a year). Seeing how it might take another week or more, I'm gonna spare you the suspense and just say my piece now. The nice-looking site Prestacious has been so generously hosting for us is actually a nightmare to work with. He doesn't know this, because he doesn't work with it. I work with it. I tried to negotiate a move to another platform, first when the site was being created, and again in 2018. Pres said no. All of this is old news, though. I always hated the site, but not enough to quit this job - until now. What changed? Well, Wix (that's the platform the site is built on; like WordPress, but more shit) is going to retire one of the main building blocks of the site (a list-type container) in a few months. After that, the existing lists will remain viewable, but it will no longer be possible to update them with new content. Something like 70 of the 80 pages that comprise the site use these lists. The challenges themselves, the leaderboards and most of the halls of fame are stored in them. If I can't update them anymore, I can't update the HoFs anymore. What Wix suggests we do about this extremely shit move is paste the content into another type of container (and pray that they don't retire that too in a few years). But guess what? Pasting the content to another type of container in the case of this particular site is the same as building the damn thing from scratch. And I ain't doing that. I'm done with Wix and honestly, with Pres too. Once I finish the current update, I'm not touching this site again. I said the future is uncertain instead of saying this thing is outright dead because we could go on - eslewhere. I could create a site of my own and keep the halls of fame there. The thing I have in mind would be much easier to maintain, as it would be displaying stuff from a database, so there'd be no more manual site updates. A few years back I made a partially functional prototype for fun, but eventually abandoned it as it seemed pointless to duplicate the already established Pres's site. I'd be happy to pick it up again, but it might be a long time before I can get it up and running. Another option, obviously, is that someone else takes over the maintainance of Pres's site, does the copy-paste redesign, and then also does the updates in the future. The new custodian would have to figure out how to do stuff pretty much on their own. I could help initially (by which I mean answering specific questions rather than giving detailed instructions) but wouldn't want to stay involved. Of course, other ideas are welcome. Let me know what you all think. Having some experience with the site I totally agree with you: it is a mess and horrible to work with . I for one am totally game for moving both the PHOF and the Themed Challenges to another platform . Let me know what you have in mind and I'll tell you how I can help ; I have been working with servers, including dbs and web for over 20yrs now, so...

Depends. there are also lurkers like me who read and agree on this solution which seems the best and more rational hum, this is the moment to see if this TC are still alive and deserve a new lifting ... as much as it pains me, it doesnt look like it. I mean, i wouldnt want to spend hours on it myself for a few likes and 2 answers, and i am still playing those challenges (well in my mind, cause it s always too late for muahmuah ). Smehur has being pulling the weight for a long while now, while she has not been playing for years. She s asking for opinions and maybe support, not likes ;p (btw, starting again "against" @presta's will isnt painless either)

She s asking for opinions and maybe support, not likes ;p (btw, starting again "against" @presta will isnt painless either) And support is what I gave her for more than two years now, also what I offered to her now (and let's not forget that Clusum and TTT helped too). Also nobody is starting anything "against" Prestacious, but for example the PHOF database has grown well over 4500 entries and that amply justifies automating a lot of the tasks that are done atm manually (and painfully ). To sum it up, imo, it might be fun and healthy to climb the stairs to the 2nd or 3rd floor of a building, but to get to the 50th floor you might need an elevator ...

Thank you all for the feedback. It's good that different opinions surfaced. Both Alfonsedode and docsteely make valid points. Doc understands the nature of the problem a bit better, as he too has been working with the site and knows what it's like to edit a PHOF with hundreds of entries in a text-box that only fits a few lines of text and isn't smart enough to make the text look black in edit mode so it's practically white text on a white background. Just one example! At the same time, Alfonse is right about my plan being somewhat contrary to Prestacious 's wishes. I reviewed my correspondence with Pres from 2018 and he explicitly said that he doesn't want to transfer the ownership of the project and probably never will. Regardless of being completely absent from it and basically unreachable for 2 full years at the time of that conversation, and for 4 full years now. So, this is what I'm going to do. I'll start developing a new site, but it will only be for the halls of fame. The challenges themselves will remain where they are. The entire current site will remain as is, and Pres, or anyone with editing credentials (which only Pres can give) can at any time resume the updates there. The player submissions comprising the halls of fame don't belong to Pres, or to me, or to any individual - they belong to the players who submitted the runs, so I think this is an OK thing to do. I'll contact Pres to let him know what's happening. If this turns into some big drama, there's always that option 2 from my original post. PS: I'll still finish the current update, because it may be a while before there's another one.

a. The show must go on! That's it. Simple as that. Can dwell on the reasoning further, but won't. Those still around recognise that, active posters and the lurkers among us too. So let's figure out what's the best way forward. oh and @al, be quiet. Enough with your defeatist attitude. You're retired, and it's sweet. We get it. Some of us are not retired and need this. Look around, the TC/HoFs threads are one of the few ones still getting (semi)regular content posted around here. b. So on the way forward. Looking for a more manageable solution seems like a best option in helping the devoted team that kept this going until now. Sounds like the status quo is no good for multiple reasons, including the platform pulling the rug from underneath the clumasy way of managing HoFs. So let's ween ourselves off. Would it be any easier if it's to be done in stages? Like, let's get the HoFs only off onto a different platform to ease the pain associated with managing them and without having Smehur to commit the full redevelopment? Later on we could tackle the more static content later on, possibly also help with the continuity and the founders' role, like Prestacious's legacy inclduing name, domains, etc. Is the admiral at all contactable to discuss all this btw? Oh, and if it aint doable in that way, then let's take the plunge. Not the first time, not the last. 'Cause see point A. c. In any scenario keen to help the team with whatever i can. i've reached out to Smehur previously to that extent. While similarly to docsteely ima clocking in a 20+ years in the IT/ICT by now, I haven't been a techie-proper in quite a while. But at the very least can help with the things like data entry and any otherh menial things to help with. Ima offering some low-tech automationi guess hehe even if only to buy the time for thinking/implementing smarter ways and buy the team some breathing space on figuring them out

Sorry, Smehur but both you and Al are wrong. Prestacious does not need to give up the ownership of the project. I’ll explain this later in PM.

i guess i m quite unclear as usual , whatever. It s cool Smehur (with help) is ready to deal with the migration. (And HoF updates are clearly not presta's ownership, nonetheless i m pretty sure Smehur already lost a lot of time cause of prez "paternity" on all that stuff). I was just disappointed only 2-3 people expressed their will to see the show going on.

I'd like to see it go on, but if it's too much of a PITA I can understand why not. There should be a way to automate things to make it easier for everyone. I'm not sure how I could (no web dev experience, I've done some programming), but I'd be willing to help if needed. As it stands right now my schedule would allow for it.

Hi everyone!
First, I hope you are doing as well as can be during these times. Hello to old friends and to some new that I haven't had the pleasure of speaking with.
Smehur's message brought me back to the early days of this challenge thread and to what this site has meant to me over the years. I will always hold those early days dear to my heart. The enjoyment I got from putting those early challenges together and especially from the people I met through them, those who took part in the sometimes crazy challenges and those who took part in the conversation. This site was a way to add faces (so to speak) to gaming, which I found could otherwise be a pretty lonely pursuit. I was thrilled to be a part of the community and to also attempt to take part in the challenges (in my console lowliness). It was and will always be the the thing I remember most fondly about my life as a gamer.
When Smehur asked me to essentially take over a couple years ago, I think most can understand my hesitation. This was my baby and I was reluctant to see it go even if I couldn't but the time into updating it that it deserved. A couple years later, I am A - incredibly grateful for Smehur and for all of the effort that has gone into updating this (Smehur has now been the custodian of this site for longer than I was) on a not-so-great site for the cause and B - I realize and accept that this doesn't belong to me or anyone but the hundreds of players who have put in thousands and thousands of hours into those thrilling runs, all for the game, for the thrill of it and for the community.
I'm sorry to see that my name has kind of been since associated with paternalism and negativity. That was obviously never my hope with any of this, and I've always just tried to be a positive figure in all that I do. I think as someone who put many hundreds of hours into the challenges, I was hesitant to see that go (perhaps I'm a bit of a helicopter parent) and I apologize for that.
I've left it completely up to Smehur. It's the least I can do. I hope I can be a help in whatever is needed to keep the entity alive. It's great to see some of your names on this page as I type this. I honestly miss you folks!
Be well, Pres

I think as someone who put many hundreds of hours into the challenges, I was hesitant to see that go (perhaps I'm a bit of a helicopter parent) and I apologize for that. I'm sorry about that, Pres. I spoke too harshly, out of frustration. Should've talked with you before I started a forum drama; if I knew you'd support the move, it would've been a different story. And make no mistake - everyone here (myself included, despite all the whining) is grateful that this thread and the site and, above all, the challenges themselves, exist; and none of it would if not for you! You've created something extraordinary. Doing the challenges in 2014-2015 changed my life (no exaggeration) and working with the archive has been an incredibly valuable learning experience; frustrating at times, yes, but also immensely rewarding. Thank you for making that possible! And thank you for giving us your blessing to carry forward what you started. As for the project being dead, yall should consider this: since the update in early February, there has been 500 submissions. That's about 2 submissions a day. The PHOF is getting something like 1 a day on average. These numbers seem tiny but they add up. It's 700 TCHOF and 350 PHOF entries a year, which makes nearly 10% of what's in the archives already. That seems far from dead to me. To clear up another thing in case it didn't come across: I'm actually eager to develop a new site for this. It will be a lot of work, but the kind of work I love (programming + data). Would still be silly to do it for nothing; for example, if the consensus here turned out to be 'nah, let it die'. But that's not the case, so, woohoo! I suppose this also means you can go on making submissions. They might not appear on the current site, but they will on the new one. One day.

The halls of fame have finally been updated with runs submitted up to September 12. This was the largest update in the history of ever, with 500 new entries and a dozen series completions. Here are some some notable achievements (in no particular order): - bialakawa has done pretty much every gold solo in the book, including the N7 Challenge Series and Weekly Solos 1 & 2. Way to go, friend! Now on to platinum.
- NinjaSuperiority completed N7 Challenges on Platinum, one of the most impressive achievements among the themed challenges. Congrats!
- muahmuah completed all the Weekly Solos 1 on Epic (platinum) difficulty. Always good to see a veteran come back to deal with unfinished business.
- doh and me completed Tales from the Trenches on Platinum. It was tough and we're on the bottom of the leaderboard but I'm proud anyway.
- NinjaSuperiority , TheNightSlasher and Wasserpest completed all the N7 Triune Trials on Platinum - the second team ever to earn the N7 badge together. Kudos!
- NinjaSuperiority & TheNightSlasher completed Themed Duo Challenges 1 & 2 on Platinum with some impressive times. Well done!
- docsteely & doh completed Themed Duo Challenges 1 on Platinum. Congrats!
- Alfonsedode & AW_FC_1986 completed Themed Duo Challenges 2 on Gold. Nice work!
Congrats to all the teams and soloers who submitted runs! Thank you, and forgive me if I missed your series completion in the highlights. Please check out the leaderboards and let me know of any mistakes (quite likely with this many new entries). There's more! Some time ago, I revamped the themed challenges statistics which are an odd mix of stats on the runs and the challenges themselves. Now you can see just how many hours of your life have been invested in this, and how many teams you were a part of, among other extremely interesting things that I just know yall are dying to learn. Check it out, and let me know if I could add or improve something. Good luck with your current and future challenge pursuits! Smehur out.

Congrats!
- Alfonsedode & docsteely completed Themed Duo Challenges 2 on Gold.
Smehur out. Congratulations to all the other champs mentioned! And very nice work on the stats, Smehur ! Just one quick correction for the last entry: it's Alfonsedode and AW_FC_1986 that managed together the Themed Duos 2 on Gold ... (I did those with muahmuah some 2yrs ago - he took a lot of convincing to get demoted to Gold... )

Thanks, Doc. I fixed it. Thankfully the mistake was just in the post - the runs and the leaderboard seem fine.

Thanks, Doc. I fixed it. Thankfully the mistake was just in the post - the runs and the leaderboard seem fine. I think stats are bugged for duo teams, numbers are really very high... At least i think you counted runs twice, but maybe even more, 80, dont look like somtehing u reach for one duo series or 2.
meanwhile, i have some unfinished business Weekly themed solo 1 Blasteroid on gold (Volsent with avenger and shuriken on condor collectors)
pretty painfull cause pewpew, but still kinda fun to punish collector slowly with a little meatball and his pewpew

I think stats are bugged for duo teams, numbers are really very high... At least i think you counted runs twice, but maybe even more, 80, dont look like somtehing u reach for one duo series or 2. Indeed, something's fishy there. One possible reason for high numbers in general is that the stats show all the submissions, while the HoFs only show the best. (Which is probably not ideal in itself but that's another question.) In other words, all the re-runs count in stats. But I doubt you and AW have redone all the duos on both difficulties. Your veteran & hardcore runs make for 40 something, so it seems the numbers are doubled. I'll look into it. Thanks for reporting!

I think those never made it to the HoF for whatever reason it s weekly themed solo 1 on hardcore, thought i still had those 2 to go, but found them here Week 4: Now I Am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds Conditions: Full extraction on Firebase London with N7 Destroyer Causal/Hardcore/Epic: N7 Typhoon Assault Rifle, 3 waves survived medal Veteran/Insanity/Legendary: Striker Assault Rifle, 5 waves survived medal 29:10 - Alfonsedode (256 680 pts)Week 9: Does This Unit Have A Soul? Conditions: Full Extraction on Firebase Giant Hazard vs Collector Casual/Hardcore/Epic: Geth Infiltrator with Javelin Veteran/Insanity/Legendary (Most representative of the unique Legion): Geth Engineer with M98-Widow, earn 5 waves survived medal edit :oh, yes, i now know, wrong link is fixxed now i have Hear of Hydra on my plate again, it s MPApr2012 ' s ariake level for me and a disgrace
