For some reason, this part particularly bothers me. You hear some banter between Liam and Vetra in the NOMAAD concerning her sis, and while Liam has a tendency to shoot his mouth off as the guy who's basically playing "devil's advocate" to literally everything ever, he does have a point. The conversation, as a reminder, goes like this: "That responsibility thing, its about my sister isn't it?" "Good sleuthing, Sherlock. Gold Star." "Your mouth is gonna get your ass in trouble." "My mouth didn't drag a kid to Andromeda" "Screw you Kosta, she had a choice!" "Some choice that was, lose you or come here. Crazy how upbeat she is, considering." The thing is, I sort of have to agree with him here. The way she responded to that suggests she made the decision on her own before informing her sister, instead of deciding together. Not that it would have been any better. We all know they dodged the Reapers. "Goddess" ( ) knows they probably wouldn't have come out of that one intact. The point is, though, Vetra forcing her sister to tag along and calling it a "choice" was exactly the kind of asshole move she blames Liam for. The other thing is, do you think Andromeda is safe for kids. Heck, its not even save for the initiative's adults. Bringing kids just amplifies the potential problems. Liam's right, a kid, depending on the age, likely wont understand something like that is permanent. Despite all that, was it even okay for Vetra to bring Sid?

Did Vetra go out of interest or was she forced into it because people were hounding her in the Milky Way? I can't remember, but if it's the latter, then her decision seems justified.
Also fuck Liam

Also fuck Liam If that's the case, then it would be justified. The only reason I'd say that about Liam in this case is him not likely knowing the full story behind her and her sister. On the surface it appears she took an underage kid to another galaxy, and it was borderline blackmail. ("If you want to say here, then you'll live alone" kind of deal, but she didn't say it like that, because she did love her sister). Do we even know the full story?I'm kind of neutral on Liam, actually. I know he's almost entirely hated by literally everyone ever, but the conversations I have with him on the Tempest are kind of cool. Seems like a relaxed guy who cant really seem to find what he's good at. I do hear him stir shit up among other crew mates though. As I said, I think he's the type who's a natural devil's advocate, but that attitude never works well in real life. My dad does that a lot and it pisses everyone off 100% of the time when he decides to act like that, but his intention is to help you look at see what you did, making sure you realize there are down sides to your decision to. Its just, whenever you play devil's advocate it makes you seem like you're better than everyone else and an asshole. That being said, I hardly ever take him on missions. Its usually Drack, Vetra, Peebee, or Jaal. I take Cora selectively, but I try to rotate around so that I get a chance to go out on a mission with everyone.

Shit sounds like something I would've said at his age. Fuck, it actually sounds like something I would say now, too.

Liam also says this because of an earlier conversation where Vetra talks shit about his fighting skills in a pretty aggressive way - and I think implies something about him personally? I can't remember that part - and he tells her basically not to throw stones from her glass house. Not saying it excuses how hard he comes after her re: Sid, but it wasn't completely unprompted. (I hate taking Vetra and Liam out together because by the end I want to kill them both - they have the dumbest conversation about where to shoot kett.)
I don't really approve of bringing kids to Andromeda because Jesus, that's a hard life to grow up in, and Sid's a teen who Vetra kinda babies the hell out of so she would've had a lot of trouble on her own. There was no real choice for her. Then again, Sid doesn't seem too broken up over it, so Vetra's probably right and people should not pass judgement on how she parents her sister.

It's just another instance of Liam being Liam (AKA a idiot). Vetra and Sid are the only real family that each other had. From what Vetra tells Ryder their mother was a souless bitch and their father was most likely in a unmarked grave somewhere, the true cruel thing would be to make them stay one galaxy apart from one another. Besides not even once Sid holds Vetra's decision to move to Andromeda against her big sister (on the contrary she admires Vetra a lot) and that tells me Sid was okay to move away with her. By the way the asari Ark is full of files pointing out several colonist were families travelling together, wonder if Liam also has a bone to pick with them and if he also thinks about the parents he left behind in the Milky Way. At least he get a bit more responsible if you call him out after his quest.

The fact we are arguing about FICTIONAL characters shows that Andromeda;s characters were good enough for them to be arguable.

Reading between the lines, it is clear that Vetra has had to act as a surrogate parent for Syd. In that case it would have been irresponsible of her to leave Syd behind, given that Vetra was the one stable influence in Syd's life.

I don't think Vetra and Sid is the only family unit to go to Andromeda with younger members.
They survived together, lived hand to mouth, became street smart and smugglers. They worked for Kesh and she introduced both of them to the AI. Sid isn't a pampered princess unable to cope with the dangers of intergalactic travel. I very much doubt Vetra would have made her go if she didn't want to.
It's easy to say "why would anyone take a kid" but she's a teen, and she isn't leaving behind anything worth while. Andromeda was a chance for a new start without the baggage their parents left them. When you don't have anything, it's easy to take a risk, especially for a chance of a good life.

Lots of families go to Andromeda, some with young kids. You could say the same about families emigrating to the colonies hundreds of years ago when they had to face long dangerous sea voyages to get there, then inhospitable natives and wildlife...that seems just as dodgy. You need strong motives to do that or a pioneering spirit. As for Vetra they only have each other, and Syd is now a young adult craving adventures of her own. She probably jumped at the opportunity to go on the ark, her actions in Vetra's personal mission prove how she wants to help and be a part of something after all. The moment Liam said that to Vetra I was so done with him. Dick.

She probably jumped at the opportunity to go on the ark, her actions in Vetra's personal mission prove how she wants to help and be a part of something after all. This ^^ Vetra's loyalty mission shows that Syd clearly idolises her. She has this image of Vetra helping people and so uses her identity to try and emulate her. Given the choice of an intergalactic adventure with her sister, I can't imagine her even considering turning it down.

Shit sounds like something I would've said at his age. Fuck, it actually sounds like something I would say now, too. yeah their parents had abandoned them so one of them had to be responsible for making a choice whether that be good or bad.Obviously with Vetra being the senior of the 2 it was her call to make. Tbh I think that whole arc with Vetra just shows how resourceful her and her sister were. I'd have been proud of her had she been mine. I quite like Liam but he is a little bit idiotic at times and rather stuck in his ways believing things will always and only work the way he wants them too. But surprise Liam you need to make them work that way before they will. Which is a hard lesson he has to learn on his own loyalty mission.

I agree with Liam that Sid didn't really have a choice. Go to a dangerous galaxy to be able to stay with the person she was closest to in the whole world, or be left alone in the old Galaxy, poor as dirt and hounded by dangerous people wanting her to pay for things she hadn't done. So I would fully understand if Sid felt bitter about it.
That doesn't mean that Vetra was wrong. I would like to think she would have talked to her sister about it, even offered to try and patch things up with her mother. But they were a team and of course Sid would have followed her to the end of the world. Sure she's young and she might change her mind later, or she might still agree that her sister was right and this was the best choice.
So I can see both their views and can agree with them both. But the final judge would be Sid, as it is her future that they are arguing about.

I don't think she's as young as everyone thinks, vetra just likes to baby her. Ffs, Sid is 7 foot tall.
My only issue here is why can't I get vetra and Sid in a three some?

Liam's the douchiest of douches. Why he's even a character is beyond me. Why did he get drafted into andromeda's pathfinder team? Giving his opinion everywhere to anyone without being asked. fan fact , i like him. he is loyal and capable. the very first mission proves than. it's in the narrative. Also he throws some good jokes! like "even the equipment here is out to kill us" I cracked up listening to this
