No sex for 600 years?... ...i'd be backed up like a mofo.... ....I don't think i would go. I would let some other guinea pigs roll out first to make sure everything was ok.....I kinda agree with what "themikefest" stated...defenses for the ships, a plan B in case s**t hits the fan...etc...

Considering it would just be FTL within our own galaxy, it hopefully shouldn't take 600 years to get around. All I could think of for defenses would be haveing some firearms onboard, stuff like boltaction rifles, semi-automatic handguns, and pump action shotguns because of ammo consumption, or stuff like 20mm cannons, though my issue with that is, another extraterrestrial species could potentially misinterpret the external cannons as hostile.

I would go, if there is a purpose behind it. Say, if Elon Musks Mars plans actually take off at some point, I'd probably be too old to do all the required training and then go but hey, in theory, I'd definitely be interested. However, I wouldn't go if there is no benefit in it for humanity at large, be it research, resource gathering, colonization or any such things. That is by the way exactly what bothers me about the AI, they only go for themselves. They have no means or even desire to do this in the larger context of the MW races (or the Andromeda races for that matter, which may be even worse). Not only that no one would ever fund a project where people just leave, never to be heard from again, I would find it incredibly selfish to spend mountains of resources, just to transport me from a to b, only for my own sake (be that curiosity or anything else).
So definitely, sign me up for exploring space, even it is difficult and even if there is no sure way to return but it needs to have a broader purpose then just to satisfy my own desires. If that is not given, then I'd rather stay here and do something useful.

If that is not given, then I'd rather stay here and do something useful. I personally would start out by doing something like "marking" planets for colonization, I mean there's a good chance that there's a star system in our own galaxy that has the resources needed for humans to survive, our current method of detecting planets in the habitable zone is basically looking for dips in the brightness of a star, we don't ACTUALLY know what the planets look like or if they could sustain life as we know it. Asteroid mining itself can be done anywhere in our galaxy, it'd be a pretty lucrative business. I'd be sorta doing it for my own benefit tbh. I'd hope that humanity benefiting from it would come as something of an effect.

Personally I think we should colonize the oceans here on earth before we worry too much about outer space.
I've always loved the idea of building underwater cities, independent nations that are self sustaining, but considering that they would be separate from the rest of the world there's not really anyone investing funding for that kind of thing.

I don't agree, there's nothing wrong about that though, I wonder if other people on Earth would like to do that as well. In terms of the funding for those, I think it would have to take a whole bunch of people funding it, or have some millionaires or billionaires funding it, I can't trust a lot of politicians as far as I can non-biotically throw them.

Definitely should focus on knowing and fixing our own world before venturing into the vastness of space. By fixing I mean to make our own world self-sufficient. Probably would be something like the plot of some of the Seaquest DSV series episodes -maybe but not certain. As far as Oceans go though we are a backwater species compared to what we are doing in space. In my opinion we should already have a Titanic memorial that people can go through. That sits on the Ocean floor right beside the wreck by now but we are no closer to that than being on Alpha Centari. Politician throwing? To that I can also agree. However again I say it: Fix this planet before we go mess up another one. Or do we want to make Agent Smith of the Matrix right about humanity?:

As for the rest of what you said though, about fixing our Earth before trashing another planets. Agree to disagree, but that is a major issue I have is human nature.

Agree to disagree, but that is a major issue I have is human nature. Agreed. As to trashing Earth we will agree to disagree: Human nature is something that if enough effort is put in can be changed. Look at this possible scenario: We leave Earth find another planet to colonize -then we trash both worlds. Then the alien planet guardians -we have met before but just didn't know -the species called Gaia (see connection?). Notice what we have done and having given us a chance before to fix a world we destroyed -Earth. Now realize it was a mistake to even let us try to repair damage when we will just do it again. So they decide right then and there that the universe is better off without us in it destroying life bearing worlds. The end of humanity right then and there. I would be all for forcing change to humanity if that can lead to the aversion of such a scenario. Granting few changes be left undone -I will keep my eyes and teeth no matter what!

Do you think that Elon Musk is trying to help us go down that path or no? I mean, he's the owner of Tesla and he's the chairman of SolarCity, he also came up with the idea of the hyperloop (Not sure how that'll turn out).

To be fair, I don't know if you can have a back up plan for what the A.I. faced when they arrived in Helius. That being said, I wouldn't go-the unknown/major change, and starting from scratch is not my cup of tea. The issue is more that they didn't seem to have ANY backup plan in case of hostilities.
Some ground troops and APEX are simply irrelevant Vs. an enemy that holds superiority in space, they can just drop a few telephone polls from orbit and everything groundside is dust.
Realistically you wouldn't survive such an enemy without a judicious application of Deus Ex Machina coupled with forcing the antagonist to hug the idiot-ball hard.
Even the HMS Endeavor has some cannons on it.

However the state this world is in thanks to us kinda makes him right. Now I'm starting to wonder if only something like a select few people should go interstellar. The only option I could think of for fixing some of our country's problems would be a revolution. (Oh fuck is the government going to blacklist me saying for that?) Another option would be is that people need to be a LOT more careful about who we elect. (Then again I don't trust too many people to do that) Speaking of space and politics, I found out while at my job that, apparently, NASA now has a "planetary protection officer" job. I wonder if I should join....

- I would go live on the Citadel or the Nexus, for sure. - I would own and work at Castle Arcade. - I would bring my dog with me and maybe stay 10 years.
I don't see myself really going to uncharted planets. But interacting with so many different species? Oh hell yes.
